What happened to this thread?!

I should be able to finally contribute in a couple of months. I have my eye on a Walther PK380. But, I may need help taking a decent picture of it.

See y'all in a couple of months!

Hi DH! Has been rather quiet in here. PK380 is a really nice piece! I have my concerns about the light .380 round for self defense, though.

My Mrs. carries the Walther PPK/S I've shown here. ROUND selection is super critical with the light-hitting .380 caliber. Most suffer from lack of penetration, or lack of expansion. The only rounds I put in that for self defense, is the Hornady 90gr XTP in winter (decent expansion but good penetration for heavier clothing) and the Hornady FTX Critical Defense in summer (much better expansion, less penetration).

Here is a pretty good article comparing various rounds. There is a complete section on the many available .380 rounds. Take a look at penetration, but maybe more importantly, check the pics of the rounds recovered from the gelatin. MOST of them don't even begin to expand.

No new EDC's for me, lately. I was concerned last summer, that my post-election choices might get limited so I budgeted for the ban. It's a little too big for a holster. ;)

Just received a Nitecore Tip (2 actually) from FT. I had a code so I ordered 2 but now there's a Chinese NY sale (REDPACKET for 10% off). This replaced my ThruNite Ti AAA powered light on my keychain. It's much brighter with more diffusion so it's more useful for close up work. It runs on a 500mah Lipo and rechargeable via microUSB port. It took a while because it has a battery but not too bad. $30 everywhere in the US, $18 with code from FT ($20 now)
$22.30 Authentic Nitecore Tip Mini Rechargeable LED Keychain Light - 1*Cree XP-G2 S3 / 4-mode / 360LM / pure white / dual switch / power indicator / 30kg max. bearing rear suspension ring at FastTech - Worldwide Free Shipping

I bought the last Walther P22 that the local gun shop had lol. Gun show is in a couple weeks, so they will be restocking soon.
By the time they restock, my one hand gun every 30 days will be up and I'm gonna see what's new.
Until then, my P22

I currently only have a '08 KTM 450 exc with dirt and supermoto wheels. I sold a '04 950 adventure and '04 450 exc a couple of years ago because I haven't been riding much. You don't need to touch the ground when you're moving :p.

NICE. Seems motorcycles and EDC's are often mutually appreciated. I met a few guys just outside Yosemite last summer on those adventure bikes. They were going from the southern tip of Argentina, to Prudhoe Bay Alaska, then BACK. I bet Newfoundland was awesome.

I'd love to go to Alaska, but no way to bring my campground protector through Canananada. So I stay home. The red one is for touring, the black for town. That Road Glide has over 42K miles in 3 seasons, and has been from Oregon to Orlando, New York to Nevada, and pretty much everywhere in between. I'm glad I don't have to pick just ONE hobby.

Thanks for the link!

I see what you mean. Although I'm a little concerned with TOO much penetration with a 9mm. And, the only weapons that I feel I can handle (other than a smaller, non-defense caliber) are the 380 and the 9mm.

Plus, my brother owns a gun shop and is willing to give me the used Walther PK380 for the price he paid for it. Even then, I have to wait a couple of months before I can afford it. It'll make a good first gun.

I'll probably get some practice with other guns over the next year. I have 3 brothers that all have guns. Then next year I can worry about something better.

One step at a time.

I will definitely be careful which rounds I choose. Thank you.

One handgun every 30 days?! A little too rich for my blood. But, fun!

You should be FINE with that sweet Walther. A 9mm is only marginally better.

On rounds, the two I mentioned will get the job done. Another option is a very recent round that I think is not going to stay on the market long. I PERSONALLY wouldn't use them, as I think they are more cruel than lethal, but they may be a good option for you and that .380. They're called R.I.P. from G2 Research. Nasty lil buggers, like the old banned Flechettes, but I imagine they will definitely stop an attacker from wanting to come any closer.

You know, in case of Zombies! Not really, but Cali laws are changing daily, so I buy when I can.

I have way more than I need but I always buy more  I like that this is rechargeable and being 360 lm didn't hurt.

A few sites did a review of those rounds and they weren't impressed. No advantage over other (cheaper) SD round.

A .380 that you can get on target is much better than a .45 that you can't. Just sayin'

I remember seeing those about a year ago. Lots of hoopla. Never knew much about them. Haven't heard much about them since. Maybe because of how nasty they are. Maybe because of the price.

I think I'll stick with Hornady Critical Defense.

Oh, so sorry! My brother only sold to someone in CA once. He won't do it anymore. It's too complicated. His shop is very tiny.
