Actually it would be the other way around, current applied to a quartz making it vibrate (sonar, for instance) , but yes it would likely require more energy than a conventional coil..

It works both ways. Electrical energy applied produces physical energy, and physical energy applied produces electrical energy. Electronics 101.

Yes sure but *in this case* you'd apply energy to the transducer (quartz, whatever) to make it vibrate.

The other possibility is out of scope, here, unless you want to make the quartz vibrate - by hand, possibly - for recharging your e-cig battery.. :D
