Just a FYI -
Be sure your online vendor is using a secure checkout process. A few ways to tell (some depends on your browser)
1. You will see a padlock that looks locked; usually along the bottom of the browser
2. Check the web address in the address bar: look for https (s stands for secure). Also, some browser address bars will turn yellow/gold when on a secure site. Also some will display the padlock symbol up there instead of on the bottom.
3. When registering for a site and you have to type in a password for your account. If you can see what you type instead of ****** then be VERY cautions.
4. If a web site does not look polished - be cautious. This one is very subjective. Not everyone is a web designer, I know that. But if you are on a site and you feel uncomfortable, then listen to your instincts.
These are all aids. I have been an very avid online shopper with a decade + of experience and have yet to been scammed. (Of course now that I say that I will get hit next week
)
And the number 1 way to protect yourself: either open a separate bank account (not with your current bank and not tied to any of your regular accounts) OR purchase a 'rechargeable/disposable' credit card. Keep a very minimal balance, just enough to cover your typical purchase. If you are really good and can anticipate an order, transfer money into the account 2 days before your order. This way that money is only vulnerable for 72 hours.
I hope this helps.
