Here's a good thread on making a 5v mod using the regulator. http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/battery-mods/65392-how-build-my-5v-mods.html
I've built three. Two using copper and one just like Sir_Lawrence's brass pipe. You can get all parts at www.madvapes.com. Good luck.
Well that's not exactly true. And not what I would consider a 'good' thread. Although he posted a MadVapes diagram he used the more sophisticated TI regulator in his build. Quite confusing for someone new with it's totally irrelevant wiring, it's extra pin, reistors and a completly different switch arrangement from his build. He also seems to have pulled the vids now that he is selling them. And it just may be just me, but the combination of garden hose end caps and heavy brass pipe makes for a rather cumbersome device.

I tried to check out that thread a couple days ago. With the video pulled, I couldn't get much from it. I also read a thread about making a resister disk from a 50/50 mixture of liquid tape and graphite that I thought was interesting but I'm not sure how tricky that is. Anybody tried it?

Looking further into the thread reveals how simple his device is. Since he used a higher amperage switch, the fourth regulator pin and resistor is not used.

It probably is just you, because I really like mine and don't find it cumbersome at all.

I've also made a couple from copper tubing.

I read that thread also but decided it was too experimental(hit or miss on the mixture) for a non-electronics guy like myself. Madvapes has since added a couple more regulators, smaller, with and without the fourth control pin.

I had no idea he was selling those,
what does he ask for them?
not that I cant make one of those for 8 bucks.

That sucks that the videos were pulled, but I guess he has the right to make a buck if he can.

What exactly is the value of putting in a 5v regulator? Protect the atty? Does that extend the battery life since it'd be pulling less? Also, how does the higher amperage switch affect the device? I've been using the .5 amp switches from the cell Shack without any issues so far.

Sorry for the simpleton questions, it's been 10 years since I was in an electronics class :|

I made an even smaller mod using one 808d this time with a small switch from madvapes and a 5v regulator. Next time I'm going to buy some of the regulators without the long leads though, this one was hard to fit in the cap. Turned out to be a pretty good stealth HV mod and fits in the palm of the hand. :)
