So what is this little piece of hard plastic-like material around the metal wire inside the cartomizer? Is this needed for proper function? Lately a lot of my cartos have been having this little piece pop up through the cotton batting.
I think it's there to keep a hole open down the middle. I could be wrong. I've had a few come out in cleaning or removing caps. The carts still worked fine. It was just harder to keep the hole through batting open.
I think what you are seeing is what is called the wick. The "tube" draws the fluid from the batting. Then the fluid is vaporized. It's not plastic. I am not sure what it is, but is like a stiff woven fabric in the couple of cartos I tore apart. Others say they have seen it as a roll of paper-like material in some cartos.
Mine will sometimes lift out a bit if I accidentally go it too deep to get the cap and o ring off. I just tuck it carefully back down, but yeah, have messed up a few cartos myself that way lol!
