Plated Reos

With all of the different woodvils wood combinations it got me thinking about different metals for the mini / grand line. My first thought was stainless steel but I suspect it would be very heavy and difficult to machine.
Then it occurred to me that a plated aluminum might be nice. While chrome would be a little too flashy for me a nice nickel plating like done on some handguns would look awesome! Also once it is nickel plated it is very easy, expensive. But easy to gold plate it. Wonder if Rob ever considered offering a plated version? Anyone else think this would be a desirable finish? I can imagine the photos in the family album now....

Actually, using different metals has been discussed and at great length in the mega thread...and it is possible that it will be a reality down the road. You may have read our endless discussions a while back about the "Deluxe" and that is what we were referring to. Since then, Rob has become sooo busy that he hasn't been able to work on that project and who knows when he'll have time to. I do figure that eventually it will come to fruition. In the meantime....I'm lovin the ones I have!

It is no longer offered. The polished finish showed every flaw and too easily scratched. It was an experiment and it didn't pan out as well. Yes the finish is beautiful (I have a red one, myself) but it shows every scratch and fingerprint which really bothers many folks.

I quit reading the mega thread awhile back... Too much chatter to wade through to find the nuggets of info for me. I tried but could not keep up wit it. I'll try searching for deluxe and see what I find.
My black/black polished mini is the only PV I use since I got it back in December. Don't want to go back to my ego If something happens to my mini so looking for Reo #2. Wonder if any of the upcoming grands will be offered in plain polished aluminum. Then I could get it plated myself. Hmmmm....

Sounds like the back of an iPod touch... beautiful out of the box but scratched up pretty good after a day being carried in a pocket.

Bummer! About plain polished not offered any more! Anybody want sell theirs?

I didn't realize when I got my black/black polished that it would be a limited run. Like your red my black is beautiful. Too bad he can't get high enough quality out of his vendors to offer it anymore. Mine has zero scratches after 4 months of continuous use so I don't think it scratches easily at all.

However, the anodized finishes that he is offering now are beautiful. They are much lovelier in person than in the photos.
