I have an Itaste mvp v2 and protank2 mini. I have 50/50 pg/vg menthol breeze liquid from Apollo. I'm getting a super harsh and a slightly burnt taste. Since this happened I've swapped out two brand new 2.2ohm coils set it at 8watts, and both have a burnt taste and vaping on it really is hurting my throat. I cannot figure out what is wrong! Previously I had the last coil vape fine for about a week, and after that coil was shot I switched it out for a new one which lasted for about 3 days, then this burnt harsh vape started. I really can't figure out what the problem is, and I don't know what to do??!! Any help would be greatly appreciated!:(

Not all stock coils are created equal, and they all have a slight break in period. Vaping too hot too early can cause issues and shorten the usable life of the coil. Try a new coil and let it soak for 15 minutes after filling the tank before you start vaping, and as said previously, start at a lower wattage and work up. If this doesn't fix it, you either have a bad coil or batch of coils, or are vaping differently than you were before (this happens naturally) and your vaping technique needs to be adjusted.

Yeah, I've used the same menthol breeze from Apollo for about a year, and had my protank2mini and Itaste mvp for about 6 months. I've used kanger 2.2ohm coils and vaped on 8watts for about 6months as well, and never had it burn my throat or taste burnt with a fresh coil until a week ago. This just happened out of the blue, and I can't figure it out. I dropped it down to 7watts, and it's a little better but doesn't seem to be producing the vapor it did a week ago before this all just happened.

Thank you all for your input! It is highly appreciated... dropping down the watts is helping, but I'm still getting a slightly burnt taste. Think I might have fried this coil from too high of watts and that's why it is continuing to taste slightly burnt. I'm gonna switch out to a new coil tonight and see if this helps. Thanks for the help everyone!

Good to hear it's headed the right direction for you. You might also want to put the air flow control base on your PT2. Big improvement. Had similar issues with all my "mini" glass, both Kanger and Davide, until I did that. (Or set my power so low I wasn't getting the flavor and vapor I wanted!)

The vape charts are good as a starting point, and actually date from a byegone age when stock gear was the only option, air flow was a mystery, and variable anything was a dream :) Still useful to prevent burning wicks and popping coils in "factory" toppers and heads, but now we can tune the vape up to our preferences. If the 6.5 watts is working, but "light" on vapor, try 7 :)

Indoor Smokers on youtube started his vape on the protank2 mini at 10watts with a fresh coil, so this is why I thought 8watts would be a reasonable level to vape at. Guess I shouldn't trust youtube for my vaping problems.lol

Now you're getting it, lol. Are you priming your coil? Put juice on it. put it in the tank and then take several priming puffs, meaning drawing on it without hitting the button. If it's not fully primed you'll get that burnt taste and it never, ever goes away. Give the coil time to soak in enough juice pretty important, as you may have found out. If you got bum coils, there's not much you can do to fix them other than rebuild. That's lesson #2. Never toss an old PT2 coil, you can rebuild them and they will be better than the originals.

For clearos, I do not recommend using variable wattage. The legs of the coils are secured by the silicone/rubber grommet and on some heads, there is a tendency for the resistance to go up when the coil is cold. Hence the device would fire at a higher wattage.

If you do insist on using vw, then you can fire the device for a split second to warm up the coil and bring the resistance back down. Then you can fire again and vape normally.

Menthol flavored liquids seem to taste burnt to me at a lower voltage as compared to other flavors and unflavored too.

I vaped pt, pt2, puritank tanks for close to a year. The best thing I did to mine was adding an AFC (aerotank base). This will enable you to adjust the air flow (draw), which in turn allows control of the vacuum inside the tank.

In a PT with no AFC the airflow is controlled by the atomizer head. A too light draw will keep the vacuum inside the tank low and can cause the wicks not to get sufficient juice flow. The result is Burnt vapes. The other side of the coin is a too tight draw resulting in too much vacuum and flooding of the wicks.

Note: Silica will withstand a propane torch. So vaping is Not going to Burn the wick. Juice burns onto the wick causing burnt taste.
Try cleaning your pt heads, here's my process that has worked well for me.
Soak in 91% Isopropyl alcohol or everclear over night or until I get 5-6 to clean.
Rinse throughly with warm tap water forcing water into the wick area.
Towel dry and blow out any water.
Mount the head on a tank base.
Remove the gasket and stem.
Remove the flavor wick(s).
Mount the tank base with the atomizer head on your PV.
Dry burn 6 watts, 5 seconds on/off. Repeat until coils are all turning red and wick is clean.
Blow the burned off crud away.

Hold the flavor wick with tweezer while burning them with a lighter or torch until wick is clean.
-Place the flavor wick back on top of the coil.
Or
-Replace the flavor wick with the material of your choice.

Reinstall the stem and gasket.
