Okay so I made my first e-cig purchase back in November 2009 with intermittent success in switching over from analogs. I recently turned 30 and am now determined to stay away from analogs altogether. My original purchase was with Green Smoke which I liked due to lack of a reference point/comparison to other brands. It IS expensive, however. The only thing I've done to help cut the costs for myself is I bought some vanilla e-juice and have had pretty good results with filling used Green Smoke cartomizers with it.

Cut to the Chase: I want a new system, something perhaps with a PCC and cheaper batteries (as I now know that I was paying way too much for Green Smoke accessories). I feel a bit overwhelmed with all of the choices so I don't really know where to look and how to begin. I basically want a system that has:

(1) Cheaper batteries (so I can buy a few extra as backups)
(2) a portable, convenient way of charging (PCC?)
(3) a recommendation on a really good vanilla e-juice because I really miss the old Chinese cartomizers that Green Smoke had - that vanilla was like vaping ice cream.
(4) A two-piece system if there's a good way to stick with that. I'm a little hesitant to have to buy atomizers for some reason.

I know that doesn't really narrow it down much but any help and/or suggestions would be HIGHLY appreciated.

It's no wonder you had problems since you were using an over priced and lower quality PV. But you are not alone.

If you want much less expensive batteries but ones that will also give you 5-6 hours on a charge, then you need to look at one of the many PV's that use non-proprietary batteries. These batteries cost around $3.80 each and can be recharged 2000 times unlike the small tube shaped batteries that can only be recharged about 200 times and cost 4 times as much.

I would also suggest for much better performance, consistency, control and reliability to only use a PV with manual batteries not auto batteries. Many will recommend an eGo or RIVA and they are fine PV's. But they do have proprietary batteries that are much more expensive and do not hold up nearly as well.

I would suggest you look at these two:

E-Power: e-Power

GLV2 (5 volt is better than 3.7 volt): Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - Great Lakes Vapor

Good Luck

Note: you can use cartomizers with either of these PV's which is the same as using a "two piece" unit.

You're going to get lots of people telling you that you need a larger battery unit like the Riva-Ego-Igo-GoGo and in your case, they may be right. I think that only the Igo and GoGo's are 2-piece units.

I can only tell you that I have used a KR808D-1 (Vapor4Life) for a year and 8 months and I haven't touched an analog in that time. I love it. I use XL manual batteries and 24mg liquid. I'm not a huge vanilla fan but I know they have a vanilla ice cream flavor, along with about a zillion others. I'm sure someone will post suggestions for you.

Best of luck to you!

I love my volt. It's my first unit so I have no comparative experience either and I'm not sure about green smoke's prices, but the volt batteries are $12 each if bought separately. I bought a kit with 2 batteries, 5 cartomizers, a usb charger and PCC. That kit is $64, but if you do a search for coupon codes I found one for 15% off and shipping was free. Very simple automatic 2 piece unit, I was vaping right out of the box with no problems. PCC holds 4 extra charges.

The reviews for their cartos were pretty impressive too, I bought extra filled with cappucino but didn't care for that flavor. Can't recommend anything on the liquid...I haven't gotten my vanilla in yet from honeyville.

I hope you get plenty of recommendations/advice and find what you're looking for :)

It really sounds like you are going to want a mod that has an all day battery, 18650 or larger, if you don't mind changing batteries An eGo or something in that range will suffice but the batteries are even more expensive. Boge cartomizers will hold about 1 ml of juice, even for a heavy vaper that is at least an hours worth of juice.

Go for the ego for $30. You don't have to buy extra batteries. You don't have to buy a pcc. Batteries last 8 hours. An ego, some cartomizers and juice and you're all set. And it will last. I've been using the same ego batteries for 6 months.

You can drip with it, try all of the different cartomizers, like dual coil, try tanks with it. Very reliable and versatile and you get an excellent vape.

Thank you guys for the QUICK replies!

So here's a question: KR8081-D - is that like saying "AA battery" in that it's a battery specification that's manufactured by various companies?

That being said, is a Volt and eGo also a KR8081-D?

I should mention that wanting a PCC was just more of a matter of convenience for me. I wasn't ever a heavy smoker with analogs and I think if I find a good battery I'll be okay with just having 2 batteries and charging one while using the other. I really just want to keep it convenient for myself and not have to put too much effort into this whole endeavor other than, say, dripping some liquid into a cartomizer and charging batteries.

Yes, V4L, Volt, many of the mini's are KR808. If you get that, get manual batteries. I think it's similiar in size to your Greensmoke.

Yep that's right kr8081-d is just the generic model number .

I don't have a lot of experience, so can't say if this is better than any of the other recommendations... but, I'm pretty much doing the same thing as swedishfish. I have a Riva (same as eGo, but a little cheaper) and I use cartomizers on it (which makes it a two piece unit). I love it. The batteries last a good amount of time, and you can get a kit (two of them) for $29 from Liberty Flights. I also just got a Vision from GotVapes to use on it, and am really enjoying it. It's another two piece option - just a big, clear tank with coils inside it.

KR808D-1 is a model, much like "X-box" or "PS3". Only there are many different manufacturers of KR808D-1. The term is also used to describe the threading for different batteries and cartos ("KR808D-1 compatible").

The Volt is a KR808D-1 style e-cig. Some call it the second generation of KR808's because of the upgraded batteries and horizontal coil cartomizer. There are other vendors with a similar product, such as Bloog and V4L.

Joye 510 - is the "510" another battery specification or is that a brand? I Googled "eGo e cig" and it came up with Joye 510 stuff. Sorry for the noob questions...

510 refers to the battery threads. There's the regular 510 (mini), also a 510 would be an Ego, Riva, Echo-E, KGo, etc. They have the bigger batteries.

"510" is another model number, and thread style (in the same way that KR808D-1 is both a model and thread type). The 510 and 808 are probably the two most common styles.

By way of example, a 306 is a different atty than the 510, but they have the same thread pitch, with the battery having the female threads. So even though they aren't completely compatible - you can't use a 510 cartridge on a 306 atty- they can use the same batteries.

For the 808's, the battery threads are male, with the carto having the female threads. But you can screw a 901 atty into an 808 style battery connection (most of the time, anyway).
