I really want to make the switch from smoking to vaping so I"ve been reading all different sites about vaping for hours now and I don't understand most of what I read lol I don't understand the terms or lingo. As I stated, I'm brand new and would like to find a kit with the best throat hit because I'm a heavy smoker. I smoke about a pack to pack and half a day. My brand is Marlboro reds or any generic full flavor cigs when I'm looking to save money.
So a strong throat hit is what I'm looking for. I understand that I will need around 24mg of nicotine, correct? The easier the better for me. I don't have a lot of patience for tinkering around with things, so if theres a cig that doesnt take a lot of "work" filling or cleaning or what not, then thats what I'd like to try. The most important thing to me though is the throat hit.
Any help is greatly appreciated. Money is tight so I don't want to keep trying different ones if I don't have to so I'm reaching out to the experienced e cig users :) Thank you so much for taking the time to read this.

Hey vcirish8! Welcome to ECF! You've definitely come to the right place. Sit tight and I'm sure you'll get a really good answer from one of the veterans I'm fairly new here too. A little time lurking and you'll find tons of info in this pretty much forum encyclopedia. I think the first thing you'll notice is a lot will mention that they too started out wanting to get as close a flavor to their analogs but very quickly moved away (like a week) to other flavors and really enjoying what vaping has to offer. I'm sure there's better info coming soon! Welcome again!

You could always try a Joye-T setup; it's pretty simple, but you'll have to replace the atomizers every now and then. Also, for a heavy smoker, the "cigalikes" (ecigs the shape of cigarettes) sometimes just won't cut it. You could always try a basic personal vaporizer (PV) such as an eGo with an eVod attached. The eGo and the eVod together would actually be cheaper than most cigalike kits and you would get much more out of it.

Welcome vcirish8. I have only been around here for a little while now, but hopefully you will find this helpful.

I used to smoke 1.5 to 2 packs per day of Marlboro Lights. I am currently vaping 24mg and have been fine. For the basics, check out this video: A PBusardo Video - Beginners Guide to E-Cigs and E-Cig Tech - YouTube & for the next step: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iPITr8trWus

A Clearomizer + Ego + charger + e-juice should get you started rather cheaply and give you a good idea of whether you like it or not.

Somewhere out there
Welcome! First a few questions:
Do you want an ecig that looks like a cigarette? Can you handle an ecig that is more cigar in size? Once we know that we can recommend some products. That takes care of what battery size you want.

Delivery system: this attaches to battery and what gives you the vapor. It can be cigarette filter size- Cartos, or it can be bigger like sharpie pen cap size and called a Clearo. Cartos are pretty reliable, but some people love clearos, but they can be a bit fiddly sometimes. Good luck! bnrk

I started Vaping 2 weeks ago. I bought the EGO-C. I was smoking 1.5-2 packs a day of Marlboro. When I bought my kit I also bought an extra battery, 4 extra Clearomizers (Juice Tubes), 5 Atomizers (Coils), and 5 different juices. You are gonna want a juice that is as close to Marlboro as you can get. I use a combination of the USA Mix and Carolina Tobacco (I will put up the web sights for you). I paid a total of 90.00 for mine however 45.00 of that was for the extras. The original kit is 49.00.

As I said I WAS smoking, and notice I said was, 1.5-2 packs of Marlboro a day. Within the first 4 days I went from 1.5-2 packs a day to 0. I am breathing better, sleeping better, food taste better, but the best thing that has happened since I started this was when I hugged my 9 yr. old daughter bye last Sunday she pulled back and said "Daddy I am so proud of you... And you don't smell like an ashtray" and she hugged me tighter.

You can go to Welcome To The Only Vapor Shop In Indianapolis And Central Indiana....... to order your kit. They will ship it in 48 hrs and its only gonna cost you 6.00 in S&H. You can order some juices (USA Mix) from there. To get the strongest throat hit with this kit you will want the 1.8 OHMs Atomizer. The battery will last you 7-8 hrs. That's why I will suggest either get another battery or order the 1000-1300 mah battery. Now Indy Vapor is kinda pricey on their batteries. Their Atomizers you can get 10 for 20.00. The best place to get a 1000 mah battery is Best Electronic Cigarettes and E-Liquid - MyFreedomSmokes.com . They have some great juices there. Their shipping is super fast. You can get the Carolina Juice from there as well.

Now for the Marlboro taste. You will need the USA Mix and the Carolina Tobacco juice. You will also need a syringe with needle. Open both juices, pop out the little tips. Insert needle into one and pull 1cc into the syringe, insert needle into the other juice and do the same. when you pull the syringe out of the second tube, pull back on plunger and pull in .5 cc of air. put cap on needle and shake to mix. once it is mixed, take cap off of needle and fill Juice tube and enjoy.

If this is difficult for you to follow I can break this down even more. I can even tell you how to clean your Cartomizer and Atomizer to where the Atomizer will last you 3 weeks instead of 2.

The juices I have are USA Mix, Carolina, Black Cherry (Taste Like a Toostie Roll Pop), Cherry, Strawberry, Peach (Taste just like you took a bit out of a Georgia Peach), Hot Cinnamon Rolls and Granny Smith Apple Pie. Now I did a 50/50 mix of the Hot Cinnamon Roll and the Granny Smith and it tasted like a Carmel Apple from the State Fair...

Man if you have any questions we are here to help you... Like I said I am a newbie to and the Ladies and Gentlemen on this site have been Awesome with helping me...

Best of luck sir.

Hi VC,

I am new also. I have been vaping for one week now. But I did a LOT of reading like you did and it is very confusing in the beginning. There are so many choices and of course you don't know what will be right for you. What I thought I wanted the first two days of reading, as I read more and learned more, I ended up buying something different in both the device and what I like in the juice flavors. I smoked Marlboro 100s reds for 45 years so I get you need your throat hit.

If you get a kit that looks and feels like a cigarette, it will come with small batteries that you will have to keep recharging every few hours. One will not last you all day - probably not even at work. So you will need more than two of them. Also, they will not hold much liquid so you will have to refill and fiddle with your delivery device more often (or buy and replace more cartridges that hold the flavored nicotine). It is lightweight and looks the most like a cigarette. Similar to the disposables at the gas stations and convenience stores.

The next step up is an Ego style battery. This is closer to the size of a cigar (not a big fat stogie). Here you can get the most bang for you buck in my opinion. If you get a 1300mah battery this should last you just about all day. Figure 1 hour for each 100mah. They come in all kinds of colors and different battery sizes 650, 900, 1000, 1100 and 1300mah. And the nice thing is you have the most choices of what kind of delivery device (topper) you want to use. There are many kinds. I personally like the Kanger Evod because it seems to give me very little fiddling problem and I fill it once and go, maybe refill during the day. You can buy replacement heads (the coil part that heats up the juice) cheap and they are easy to change. I am an old lady with no mechanical inclination and if I can do it, most anyone can. For you, from my reading, the bottom coil devices, which the Evod is, gives a lighter hit. I personally am fine with it. You may not be. For other choices on the delivery devices, I am sorry I do not know enough about them to advise you.

I bought a Vision Spinner 1300mah. It is an Ego type battery but lets you adjust the voltage. So you can adjust the power to fit the taste of your liquid. I got it so I can grow into it.

There are also types that are more like tubes and you buy rechargeable batteries for them. Many people love them. I know nothing about them so can not advise. You will need to do some more reading.

Get two of everything. While one battery charges you can use the other. It is easier to change flavors. And buy a bunch of replacement heads to go with the delivery devices. And several sample size flavors of liquid from one or more vendors. Flavor is subjective. I found, to my surprise, that I like a blueberry flavored tobacco. What I thought I would like, I don't.

You can spend anywhere from $30-$40 to get a kit to over $200. Most devices you buy now, through reading here for several weeks, people seem to trade up quickly, and for as many reasons as there are devices. There will be something out there to fit most budgets. Just because it costs more does not necessarily mean it will be right for you.

Keep reading and learning. Don't buy something in the first couple of days. Think about what is right for you.

You have chosen a very good place to learn about this. There are many wonderful and helpful people here. Don't be afraid to ask questions.

Welcome to ECF.

I forgot to tell you. Go to YouTube and watch Pbusardo and Grimmgreen videos for vaping or e-cigarettes. You will learn a lot and can see how they are used and read reviews.

Welcome to the forum and congrats on your decision to quit smoking. The PBusardo video posted by Drec is a great video, also here is a link for Baditude's " Primer on Juice delivery systems:

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...k-what-primer-juice-delivery-attachments.html

I suggest that you stay away from the smaller cigalikes as most people end up upgrading anyway. A great starter for batteries is aJoytech Ego-C Twist or a Spinner, you will need at least 2 (one to charge while you are using the other) and of course you will need a charger for them. For a juice delivery system a good start is a cartomizer like... the Evod or Viva Nova, you will want several, perhaps one of each to figure out your preferences. Cartomizers are very subjective, everyone has their favorites, normally a top coil gives you a warmer vape and a bottom coil will give you a cooler vape (it's just a matter of personal preferences). You will also want replacement heads for each cartomizer, (eventually the coil in you cartomizer will burn out, at which time you just unscrew the head and replace with a new one, it's not very difficult.
I am posting a link to a kit that gets recommended a lot on the forums, this is just for reference so that you can see the type of kit I am talking about. I have not purchased from this vendor and these types of kits are widely available.

Welcome to the forum, you've already had some good suggestions above.

Just to give my opinion, no juice will ever come close to that flavor of a burning cigarette. Just accept that as a fact. You'll get some juices that come close in smell or aroma maybe, you'll get others that have that tobacco smell, or even some that actually smell of burnt tobacco, but nothing comes close to the taste of a Malboro red.
If you reset your expectations that you want to find a juice that is close, and gives you a good throat hit, but doesn't taste like a real cig, you may have more success with vaping.

Then you'l probably do what a lot of us do at that point and start vaping the fruits, the bakery and the creams and loving them.

Vcirish, be careful. Start small, only buy 1. get a decent cheap battery, try to get an adjustable and 1(one) tank, maybe 2. and just try small bottles of juice. If you have a vape store near you it helps. Remember: YOU CAN ALWAYS GET MORE. By staying small you won't spend a lot learning what you will like. Look at all the people on this site, we all have different stuff and we all have likes and dislikes on whats out there. I love my T2 tanks and don't like Dual Coil Tanks. With an adjustable battery you can adjust the power, more power, more hit.

With a vape store near you, the good ones anyway you can try a few flavors to get an idea. I read this forum alot since I started vaping and got some good intel. But remember we are all different. And with the tank setup, you have options that you can't get with the basic e-cigarettes on the market (like Blu)

When I say get 1 tank, I mean get only 1 of what ever type you decide on. It will take a little while to determine whats right for you.

You MUST BUY 2 of everything. This is a MUST. Seriously.

1) You have to buy at least TWO batteries. You have to have backup. Thousands of people start with the most popular which is an ego-style battery. I suggest a genuine Joyetech Ego Twist, or a Vision Spinner. Both will allow you to dial up and down the watts for a hotter or cooler vape. They're around $25 each. Don't forget a USB charger and a Wall Adapter to charge with.

2) Purchase TWO Clearomizers. Again, you always need 2, because if one is faulty or stops working, you have no backup. Poeple seem to like Kanger Evods and MT3s and Vision clearos.

3) Throat hit. You will need at least 50/50 PG/VG. For even more throat hit, get 70/30.

4) Nicotine level: Get one 24mg and one 18mg. Because if 24mg is too strong, you will be feeling rather "un-well" in the beginning of your vaping journey, which is never a good thing. (when I started I just bypassed 24mg altogether, and I'm glad because it would have been too strong for me, but your results may vary, so you should at least get a sample of each!)

5) Trying different ejuice: unfortunately, finding your juice is going to be the most expensive part of your vaping journey. You can read my blog that I wrote for newbies about all the pay it forward areas on this forum where you can swap stuff and get free stuff from other vapers. :)
also, go to vendors who sell sample packs......that way you can try 5-10 at once. :)

6) confusion. Look, there is plenty of time to find your unicorn, find the "perfect" clearo, "perfect carto" "perfect juice". the problem is that everyone has their favorites.

My advice: just start. The suggestions I gave you are based on 12 months of reading the topics here and just an overall sampling of what "stuff" new vapers and old vapers appear to like the most.

Are there other things? Of course. But you can't "go wrong" with the choices I listed above. cuz most people have one of those, or have had one of them. :)

Best of luck to you, feel free to PM me any time.

My husband and I have been analog free for three weeks now. Feel so much better! Would never look back. It has not been easy for me to decide on what to get. I have spent weeks on YouTube and Google. It gets more confusing! Check out Smokeless Image. That is who I went with. Their customer service is outstanding! There is a lot of videos on both YouTube and their website for knowledge. I love their Volt x2 batteries. They are a pass through battery you can vape while it is charging. I spend a lot of time on the computer. Works out great ! ( I use a wall charger, don't want to risk messing up my computer. I don't ever charge my batteries through my computer!) I started out with a 650 and a 1300 mah battery for each of us. T3 clearomizers purchased from another company. And replacement heads from Smokeless Image. LOL! I burnt out 5 heads using a Midnight Express in them. For some reason that juice burns so fast. Bad burnt taste! Clogged them up pretty good. I wish I had found this forum sooner. I thought I would want a cigarette sized battery. But I love the 650 mah battery. Got used to it fast! With the help of a lanyard to carry it around my neck of course! These batteries of theirs are awesome. I can use the 650 almost all day without recharging. I am strictly a tobacco person. Do not care for other flavors. They sent me some complimentary cartos in Country tobacco. Love at first vape. Check out their 30 ml. bottles if you want to try it get the cartos first. That way you won't be stuck with something you don't like. I am still learning things myself. Like clean out your juice delivery system more often than twice a week. Especially if you get thick juices. I think 50/50 is good. Hope you get to where you need to be soon. If you decide to check them out, go on YouTube and punch in outlaw vaper. He is very helpful and knowledgeable on their products. Best of luck for happy vaping!

This is a really good starter kit and it comes with 3 bottles of juice.

On the Nicotine level... That's gonna depend on what brand he was smoking. I have found that the 48mg is more like a non filter Camel or Pall Mall. 36mg is basically Marlboro Red Strength. 24mg is Marlboro medium Strength and so on and so on..... And another thing you are gonna have to remember, and YES I found this out the hard way by hitting my vapor the first cpl of times like I would a regular cigarette, is that in a cigarette there are 4000 other chemicals that you inhale. This is different. Might I suggest that you sit down with your first cpl of hits because the nicotine head rush may just sit you down. LOL... Instead of Nicotine and 4000 chemicals you are getting nicotine and flavor. That's it...
