There have been lots of good ideas posted and I hope you have read them all. The "buy 2 of everything" is a VERY smart way to start. Ego twist type batteries are a good idea, as they allow you to up the amount of vapor you are getting by adjusting the voltage of your battery. I would look for ones in the 1300 MaH range. They should last you at least half a day, and recharge fairly fast. As far as atomizers go, I would start with the Evod. Good hit, good flavor, easy and cheap to rebuild. Pretty uncomplicated, and looks good on the ego type battery. They also come in pretty colors, if you are into that kind of thing. Starting out with at least 24 mg liquid is also a good idea, not to much, but enough to satisfy. You can also move down in nicotine as you go. I started out with 24 mg a year ago, and now im on 6mg, and I smoked about 2.5 packs of Pall Mall a day. I know some people will bash me for this, but try out some juices from ecblendflavors.com They have TONS of good flavors, for some of the cheapest prices around, and the juice is good for an uneducated palate. Later on you can move on to bigger and better things, but the truth is, right now you couldn't taste crap if you had a mouthful, because your Marlboro's have been killing your taste buds. Try several fruits, several sweets, a tobacco or two, and a drink flavor or two. That should help you get over the first month of not tasting much. Keep switching flavors when you refill, it will help you to keep new flavors on your taster. Some fresh vapors try just one or two flavors, and they can't taste much. It is because it takes your tongue awhile to recover.

Juice:

Two words: Sampler Packs. My Freedom Smokes has a good tobacco sampler:

Tobacco Sampler Pack 6ml 18mg

These sampler packs are only 12 mg/ml nicotine. You probably need 24 mg/ml. However, these are 80/20 PG/VG which you'll probably like. When you find the flavor(s) you like, order more at 24 mg/ml at 80/20.

Most recommended Juice on the New Members Forum:

It's all subjective. You must experiment and get some experience to find what works best for you. This is the Journey you hear about. These recommendations, though, I have seen work for hundreds, possibly thousands of smokers. Eventually, you'll need to jump in with both feet. Bottom line is to get very strong batteries with good delivery devices (toppers) and strong juice, stronger the first few days to fight off those "moments," that you'll experience. I was a 3 PAD, 35 year smoker and with the recommended gear, stopped smoking on a dime. I would consider these recommendations the minimum required for a heavy smoker to quit. Others, though, have made it with less. For a starter, though, these are the big guns and you can take on the smoking addiction for about $100 or less with these choices. Welcome, good luck, Power up and Vape On! My :2c:. YMMV. Best to you!

Hi bnrkwest, thanks for taking the time to write! I think I'd like a smaller one, like the size of a cigarette rather than a cigar.

Most heavy smokers who go this route usually have a hard time quitting. The cigarette sized vapes just can't deliver the performance that they're used to from a regular cigarette.

The best thing to do for you is try one of the disposable ones that are under $10 and see if it works for you. If it doesn't, then the vapedudes kit that was linked earlier would be better for you if you're trying to quit analogs.
