I am losing my mind a little bit trying to decide between buying a Kissbox Classic and a Screwdriver and am at a bit of an impasse at the moment. I have the screwdriver pulled up on ebay waiting for me to click buy it now, and the Kissbox all set up in my Janty shopping cart and am ready to click confirm - but I can only buy one. I have read all of the kissbox and screwdriver threads (including the miles long Kissbox...Wow thread) multiple times, but am still torn.

Right now I am using a 901 with 3 batteries (a fourth is in the process of being replaced.) I like it, but get annoyed with constantly having to top off the cartridge. When I smoked analogs I smoked 30-40 a day. I am currently changing batteries on the 901 1-2 times per day (using 2-3 batteries total if you get my drift.) I primarily use cartridges, but will sometimes drip when I am at home, or running outside for a quick break at work.

Here is my list of pros and cons:

Kissbox:

Pros:

Very attractive (I prefer the black) I work in an office and wear suits frequently, the Kissbox looks very sleek, and as a plus could pass for a pen. I also think it would look very nice with a black atomizer and titanium switch and battery

Company has excellent reputation for customer service. Quick and easy replacements, shipped from the US, and they honor their warranty

Manual switch does not have a hole in it, thus preventing liquid from dripping down into it and fouling up the works

Spare parts are reasonably priced, can accept generic atomizers, batteries only a dollar or two more than generics

USB and car adapter options

Cons:

I hear wildly varying reports on battery life, and guarantee on batteries is only three months. If their batteries are anything like the batteries with the 901 I would expect their life-spans to dwindle rapidly

There seem to be some quality control issues and a rather high component failure rate

Additional batteries are $17 apiece

Chargers can only charge one battery at a time

Screwdriver:

Pros:

I have yet to read one negative review

I have an e-bay coupon for 10% off of any one item

Seems to be very sturdy

Generic 901 atomizers cheap to replace

Additional batteries are $7 for 4 from deal extreme - dirt cheap!

Is attractive in a futuristic sort of way

Chargers available to charge multiple batteries at once - assuming the deal-extreme charge doesn't explode 8-o

Cons:

Ships from England, and has to be shipped back there if it needs service (this is a big con in my opinion)

Really does look like a screwdriver - not necessarily the professional image I am trying to project ;)

I showed it to a friend an he thought it looked like a crack-pipe. A co-worker I showed it to thought it was for pot

I am a bit stuck on making this decision. I wish I could buy both, but unfortunately that is not an option.

I would like to finalize my decision today and place my order so I can stop obsessing over which to buy, and begin obsessing over when it will arrive.

An input would be greatly appreciated!!

Thanks

i was in exactly the same dilema a few weeks back, kissbox or screwdriver.

I went for the screwdriver, simply because there isnt much to go wrong with it and the only bit to replace really is the atomizer which are easy to source, plus its easy to make up an adapter to use pen style atomizers too like THIS ;)

as far as sending it back for repair, it's so simply put together i'm sure most people could replace a switch, battery, atomizer. the only thing i think that may need to be return to base is the threaded connector.

Reading what some have said about failure rates of janty parts , i'm glad i went with the Screwdriver, and it really isn't as big as the pics make it out to be .

I wish I could help you out there. I have the Kissbox Classic and really like it - as a matter of fact it is my favorite e-cig; however, I have ordered the Screwdriver last week but have not yet gotten it so I am unable to compare the two.

I'm sure others will be able to let you know the comparison.

What made you decide to order the screwdriver in addition to the kissbox? Is the kissbox lacking something that you thought you mind find in the screwdriver? Or do you just like to have them all (I can relate to that, I have a tendancy toward acquisition disorders :) )

How sturdy does the switch seem? That seems to me a relatively easy point of failure. I am not at all the type of person that is capable of soldering and making new switches (or that nice adapter you made for that matter - nice job!) I know that tends to be a part that tends to fail on the kissbox. If it failed on the kissbox I would get the replacement part from Texas, but if it failed on the screwdriver I would have to send it back to England. That is MUCH farther away. ;)

The kissbox switch is a tiny micro switch, the clicky type thing seems to fail alot. The screwdriver switch is a real switch , heavy duty stuff. It certainly isnt a weak point on the screwdriver.

Good thing is if it ever does fail ( anything is possible ), it just screws out..then screw in a new one....simple.

I'm sure trog won't have a problem just sending out a new switch , or even including a spare with the new kit for a few quid.

jeez, i sound like a salesman for the trog empire !!!! but honestly i love it, simple engineering

It's like comparing an old ford escort ( the screwdriver ) to a new ford focus (kissbox). With an old ford , everything was easy to fix yourself , easy access, no special tools required, whereas a new ford focus would be a dealer only repair.

If you were in the UK it would be no contest , but as your stateside..hmm..tricky...

we hate having to fix things.. or send out spare parts its a waste of everyones time and money.. the idea isnt how good the service is.. when the thing dosnt break in the first place service speed and turn around aint that important..

if u want the janty product they are coming out with something new soon i think.. waitiing a little to see might be better..

trog

ps.. when we first started thinking about the SD.. its never occurred to us the thing would be goiing to the far corners of the world.. we though the UK.. but by far the most go overseas..

I ordered the screwdriver. A couple of minutes ago. Eek!

It almost came down to flipping a coin, but the deciding factors were:

Battery Life
Low cost of replacement batteries
Lack of necessity for multiple chargers
Lack of a single negative review.
The frequent reports that the battery is somewhat crooked when connected to the kissbox. I've worried about that a lot. I have a mostly mild case of obsessive compulsive disorder, and things like that tend to prey on me.

The ebay coupon helped too. Saved me £9.90.

And now the obsessive waiting begins...:)

Be prepared to WAIT.

I ordered mine and it shipped on Nov. 17th, still no dice:mad:

No fault of Trog... It's probably like he said, just the run-up to the holidays. I just hope it's not some fricked up hold up at customs...

edit: oh crap apostle changed his avatar to a headbanger!!!

I like to have them all. The only ones I haven't tried is the mini and pipe - LOL...

got your payment frazzle will ship one out to u on monday.. from what i can gather people ship and buy their presents earlier when international shipping is concerned so build ups happen earlier..

we only get feedback from people who are having to waiting a bit longer than expected.. only three so far.. so most people probably still get their stuff in just over a week.. but some take a little longer for some reason..

we mosly ship the next day after getting the order.. weekends are an exception.. then its the first monday after the order..

i think the hold up is US customs.. the postal service perhaps isnt so much affected until nearer christmas..

as christmass gets nearer the whole shipping thing might get slower.. even if people buy local the supplies still have to come from china.. e cig stuff is quite a lengthy supply chain..

we dont take orders unless we can ship straight away.. but if the supply chain messes up as Christmas gets near i would not be surprized..

its all a bit unknown to be honest.. some feedback from folks who get theirs might be useful.. as yet we only hear about the slow ones..
