I’m going to apologize in advance for the length of this post. Just trying to make sure I give you great vaper’s all the info you need to help me not have to give up my PV! Ok so I’m 6 days in on this kit. JOYE 510 Stainless Steel Electronic Cigarette Starter Kit (JOYE 510 Stainless Steel Electronic Cigarette Starter Kit)

After the first hit I was sold and have not nor do I have any desire to touch an analog ever again!! As a matter of fact I have 2 packs in my purse that I’ve not even once thought about smoking! My liquids didn’t have as strong a flavor as I hoped but it was still WAY better than an analog. I ordered more liquids from a vendor with double and triple flavor options (BomBay, wow great! prices on sample packs)! I’d say the first 3 days were just totally awesome; I had no problems at all. Now I seem to be having some, so I need your help with trouble shooting and some advice for a parts order…Pretty, pretty Please my wise new vapor family!
Other things that might be important…I was a 2PAD smoker. I think I’m a pretty heavy vaper too. I take a hit or two IDK maybe every 5mins or so, maybe more often when I’m just sitting doing nothing/messing on the computer. I'm also using a manual battery. Now on with the problems…

At first, I got the greatest throat hits ever! I mean wow, it was great, a throat hit that didn’t burn my throat. But it’s now gone, poof, can’t get one anymore (I use a 24mg 70/30 mix, only flavors no tobacco). My vapor output is about the same, however I have noticed that the “gurgling & sizzling” noise, which I took to mean a good hit, is harder and harder to achieve. To get the sizzle/gurgle I have to suck much, much harder which is giving me tension headache type things in my facial muscles.

EDIT: after reading around some and trying a few things, I took out my filler and dripped 2 drops on the atomizer, no better. Then I did 4 drops which gave me the sounds and a better feeling hit but still no throat hit.
EDIT 2: the next 4 drop drip give me leakage from the air holes between the battery & atomizer. But If I can make this dripping thing work for home about how many 5-8sec hits should I be able to get from 3-4 drops before I need to drip again?
EDIT 3: sigh, I started this last night but something went very, very wrong…I think I got a little juice poisoning. No matter what I do with the carts/filler or dripping I’m sucking down liquid…and obviously more than I realized cause after about 30min of dripping I puked my brains right out. It came on suddenly and was mighty fierce…as in thank goodness my empty cereal bowl was still sitting right beside me cause there was NO time to make it to the bathroom. Ugg, and now my first hits of the day have me feeling a little nauseous and I’m seriously scared I’m gonna cave & smoke the cigs I have cause I can’t be sick like that again today! The thought of smoking an analog is gag inducing too…but I am not at a point where I can go without one or the other yet ya know?

I tried switching to the blue foam. With the foam no matter what I do I get a mouth full of juice or juice dripping out of the cartridge tip. I do keep my PV in my mouth a good bit and chew on the tips a little, but I don’t feel like it’s saliva leaking out cause it’s got that awful taste and makes my mouth numb. Also if it matters I use the flat tips, they make it seem more like an analog to me cause I can hold them in my mouth.

From the look of the filler that came in my carts, it seems like it had a plug? (the part at the end of the tip was a little twisted and I had to pull a little bit harder than I expected to get it out) Did I imagine that or is there a bit that gets twisted up and pushed into the hole? And if so how to you get around this with the foam?

I got the foam after a few recommendations that it would prolong topping off, wouldn’t burn, was a better wick material etc. I cut it myself just so that if fit in without having to shove. Am I doing something wrong?

I don’t really have a problem using the filler that comes in the carts except 1) it keeps getting hung on my atomizer and having wild hairs. I tried trimming them off but it just happens again when I take off the cartridge to top off/fill. I keep the filler just to the edge of the cartridge. To keep the filler as wet (slushy appearance) as it should be usually ends in liquid leaking out of the air vents where the battery attaches to the atomizer or the end of the cartridge tip. 2) seems like the foam would be easier to clean/dry so I can change flavors (especially until I can find one I really like.)

One of my atomizers has what looks like filler under the loop of wire mesh (does that make sense?) The other doesn’t have it or I can’t see it so I’m not sure if it’s part of the atomizer and I should leave it alone or if it’s a bit of my filler that got hung in the mesh…and thoughts?

Help me please. What am I doing wrong?

Also I need to order more stuff and I need help.

1) I have been looking at switching to cartomizers to maybe avoid some of the topping off and messing up my filler, but I’m not sure exactly what to order for my Joey 510…the web site (thevaporpro.com) was recommended by a friend/long time vaper, but now as I’m looking around it doesn’t tell me anything about the battery strength or anything that most other sites have as specs for what will go with what. And I'm a total noob, have no idea about batteries, ohms and such? Also the prices @ Vaporpro are a bit higher than some others I’ve seen around. Are the cartomizers reusable? I mean can I clean them to change flavors? And for the atomizers I have do I have to clean them before I change flavors?

2) Do cartomizers come in flat tip? And any chance there are flat tip cartomizers that are made of a softer plastic? If not flat tip how about regular with a softer plastic?

3) I got a kit with two batteries/atomizers. The batteries don’t last near as long as I’d like, but I really don’t want to go up in size. My 510 is just the right size/weight for me. So I’m gonna need to order more batteries. It seems to work out better money wise to just get another kit but not if I’m gonna switch to cartomizers right?

4) I also was thinking on getting a Passthrou…that’s where you can plug into your computer and vape on without having to charge batteries right? How do I know which one to get and does it affect the computer at all? Just got a new laptop and it’s my baby!

(Another Edit)On the advice of my brother I cleaned one of my atomizers by soaking in alcohol and letting it dry for 48hrs. I got my new flavors today so I started with a fresh cartridge and clean atomizer. The sizzle/gurgling is back, still no throat hit, and I’m still a bit nauseous. And much to my disappointment even triple flavor isn’t enough. My smell & taste abilities are already so much better but I’m just not getting any flavor. I get a little smell but no sweet taste at all which is what I want/need. I guess I should try steeping them but that leaves me trying to figure out which one I can stand to vape for a week or two until the steeping is done.

I’m sorry this is so long, I just really love this option and I REALLY want it to work. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated!
Thank you
Amy

Sorry to hear about your problems I'm only a week in but loving it.

I have a riva 510 and I'm now using these clearomizers there really easy to fill and hold a great amount of juice. They also have an atomizer built in. I buy them in packs of 5 for around £7 so it's really cost effective. Had no issues or problems with mine.

This is what they look like, YouTube them.

Girl, if you're puking, you're vaping too much. Dial it back a notch. It sounds like you're suffering from tobacco withdrawal - there's more "stuff" in cigarette smoke than just nic. You might want to check out the list of "quitting smoking" symptoms, and see it that is part of what ails you.
If you get desperate, permit yourself a cig or 2 (or 3) a day, at least for a couple of weeks. I took a month and a half to slowly transition off cigs and onto vaping full-time. Good luck, and hang in there.

Hi Amy,
The gurgling sound is too much ecjuice in the atty....flooding it will kill it.....It also sounds like you are overloading your taste buds......I have had days like then when I was new.....it is your body saying its tastes buds are on overload.......You can use a cartomizer on the 510 but make sure they are not lr.....
Clearomizers, if you want to try them, need to be in high 3 ohms or even 4.......Just be patient and you can get it worked out.....Are you sure you are getting enuff nic to stave off the nic fits? If you are, just take a deep breath and relax.
let us know how it goes.....sorry if I didn't get to all your questions.
:)

I find that 30% VG is too much, it gives more vapor but reduces throat hit. I think 10 to 20 is about right. I have some 30 VG juice right now and I can only get a good throat hit if I hold the button, draw slowly and as long as I can into my mouth. About 7 seconds. Some say that will mess up the atomizer but I've been using the same atty for months. Try ordering a 24mg juice at 80/20, and if that doesn't work, increase the nic to 36.

Sounds like much of your problem is with 1) clogged or flooded atomizer and 2) juice delivery. I recommend that you switch to Boge cartomizers for a while. They are cheap and disposable.

All of us have gone through the change in taste/no taste issues. Drink some water with lemon and see if that helps. Also read this thread: http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/fo...hen-quitting-tobacco-changing-ecigarette.html

Another thing, if you are having to hit the 510 that hard to get satisfaction, it's time to move up to a bigger battery, like the Riva, or a 3.7v mod.

It sounds like you're flooding the atty. If you are going to direct drip, the the filler out of the plastic cart, drip no more than 3 drops (start with 2) directly onto the bridge (you need to do this with a new or cleaned (dry) atty also even if you're using filler). Let each drop soak in before dripping another. With the filler (the stuff in comes with, I don't know about the blue foam), drop several drops into a clean one, keep dripping into it, slowly, until it stops absorbing. If a little sits on top, soak it up with a tissue. Even if you notice a slight reduction in flavor, don't keep topping off the cart until there is a more pronounced drop in flavor (you're going to have to deal with a few reduced flavor hits). Then, top off in the same way (don't have any liquid "sitting" on top).

If you notice a gurgling sound and a reduction in vapor, it's probably flooded (note that gurgling is different than sizzling and popping). If you flood the atty, let it cool, remove it from the battery, place your mouth over the end that connects to the battery and blow into a tissue to clean out the extra liquid. Do this until no more liquid comes out.

2) Do cartomizers come in flat tip? And any chance there are flat tip cartomizers that are made of a softer plastic? If not flat tip how about regular with a softer plastic?

Can't help ya there, I don't use them. I have regular cartridges and an Ego Tank

Get a personal charging case like this: Joye 510 PCC Charging Case (JOYE510PCC). You can also invest in a larger battery like the Mega or the Ego. I too liked the small size of the 510 standard, but you will quickly get over that if you have a battery that lasts longer. I use an Ego 1000 mAh, it lasts ALL DAY (sometimes longer) Joye Absolute eGo 1000 mAh Battery (JOYEABSBATT). The one I have came with the Ego Tank system I ordered, but also works with standard 510 attys.

4) I also was thinking on getting a Passthrou…that’s where you can plug into your computer and vape on without having to charge batteries right? How do I know which one to get and does it affect the computer at all? Just got a new laptop and it’s my baby!

Not going to hurt your computer any more than a USB phone charger (which is not at all). If you're running the laptop on battery, it WILL drain the battery faster, but that's the only affect. Also, vapor production, for whatever reason, isn't as good with the passthru (but it's worth a shot, they're only like $15)

Again, "gurgling" is bad, it means the atty is flooded. "Sizzling" is good, as long as it's not too loud (could indicate a dry atty, which I highly doubt is your problem). Flavor could be the juice you're using. Try checking out the e-liquid review forums. Also, there is a difference with PG and VG. PG, from what I understand, gives a better TH and flavor, but reduced vapor. While VG gives better vapor and less TH and flavor. I use a 50/50 mix. You might want to play around with different combos.

I'd also be interested to know what level of nicotine you are using? I was a pack/day Camel lights smoker and 18mg seems perfect for me. Using 24mg, I too was getting nicotine overdose symptoms. I also noticed that I tend to vape overall more than I smoked analogs (because it TASTES so much BETTER!!). Sometimes, I'd go crazy with it and get sick. Try having some different nic levels around and when you start feeling sick from it, switch to a lower/non-nic level.

Hope that helps :)

I just re-read your post.....Maybe you are also coming down with something like a cold or flu.....you do work around patients....just saying......
And I agree with mlinky, a Riva 510 is not that much bigger but will give you more of what you are looking for...... Liberty-flights has a Riva 510 kit for 29.99(after you click on the 20% link or use code ecf during checkout....Heck, bigger battery for less than what you paid for the 510 from Vapor whatever.

I smoked for around 50 yrs. and I quit the day I started vaping. been 15 mo. now. Sorry about your problems. I think a couple good suggestions have been made. One thing though vaping is not the same as smoking and although you get your nic fix it's a different process entirely. It sounds like the throat hit your missing is because of your liquid and the first few puffs are stronger then your throat acclimates to the vapor. Remember this rule of thumb. PG gives more throat hit and VG better vapor. You need to find your level of vapor and throat hit by adjusting the two. Myself I have variable voltage Buzz and Infinity that I use with Ikenvapes cartomizers and I couldn't want any more flavor, throat hit or vapor. But I can adjust my voltage level to find the spot that's great for each juice I use.
I do hope you get it right and offer you good luck in your search.

Definitely go with cartomizers. Dripping and cartridge crap isn't for everyone. Cartomizers are less hassle, little to no juice leaking, or any juice in the mouth.

I would suggest going with standard resistance Boge 510. Do not use LR's on your little batteries or they'll meet certain death.

Just pop off the mouth piece, hold at a 45 degree angle, and start dripping. They hold about 20 drops give or take a couple. I fill mine up the night before so I have plenty to take with me. I use a sticker and write what flavor I have in it so that I don't mix them by accident.

Cartomizers are only with round tips but you could can also empty one of your cartridges, remove the foam/filler and use it on the end of the cartomizers (remove the plug from the cartomizer first). I sometimes do this and it works fine. Supertmanufacturing has whistle style drip tips but they are pricey.

If you go with a passthrough, make sure that it IS NOT a 5v if you're going to use it on your USB. USB's in computers don't supply enough power to run them and may damage it (your computer that is). madvapes.com carries both 5v and standard. You may also check into some that have the inline battery in them but if you go with this, get a couple of extra 10440 batteries as the batteries don't last forever.

You can speed up the pace of steeping by removing the caps and dripper. Place out of reach of little people and animals. Also don't place in direct sunlight or heat. Let it sit overnight, replace parts, shake and vape.

If you want to stay with atomizers, I suggest getting an ultra sonic jewelry cleaner. I bought one from harbor freight and amazon. The harbor freight one was fairly inexpensive, $25, so if you have a store close, go get one. 2 cyclings with plain water and you wouldn't believe the crap that came out of mine. I blow them out afterwards, and stand upside down to dry overnight. It even brought back some that I thought were total gonners.

The jewelry cleaner can also be used to clean cartomizers as well. I clean mine by shaking/slinging any leftover juice out as best I can. Rinse under hot running water, sling again. Now place in jewelry cleaner and cycle about 2 times. Drain water from cleaner and repeat for 3 more cycles...cycles only last 3 minutes. Remove cartomizers, sling out water, and stand them with battery end up for a couple of days to dry. Or if you have a food dehydrator (kind that circulates air) put them in it and let dry overnight.

However, in your case, try Boge cartomizers. Most vendors carry them.

Also, please drink tons of water to help you with your taste buds. Vaping will dehydrate you and you don't want that.

Sounds like you could have the flu but if it persists, drop your nic down a notch.
PG - throat hit and flavor
VG - your vapor producer but can mute flavors
Try a mix of 50/50 in lower nic on your next purchase.

Well lets start with the gurgling/sizzling. They are two different things, sizzling and a bit of popping when you push the button is good, weather you are drawing on it or not. Gurgling only happens when you draw and it indicates that you atty is flooded. You need to blow it out. unscrew it and hold a tissue over the threaded end and blow into the mouthpiece. when no more juice comes out clean it up and you are ready to vape again.

If you were a 2PAD smoker a small 510 isn't going to cut it for long you will constantly be changing batteries, when the size is no longer an issue you will want to move to an eGo style battery they will last 5+ hours for a moderate vaper.

If you are chain vaping 24mg may be a bit too strong and making you sick. You are getting juice in your mouth because you are sucking too hard, which happens when your atty is flooded, keeping your atty working properly should fix that.

What you are seeing under the bridge is the wick it is fine, you don't always see it but they are always there.

A pass-through would be a good idea but do not plug it into your computer, you will need a 2amp wall plug or powered USB hub to run a pass-through.

Cartomizers are probably a better option for you, most people prefer them, there are some with whistle tips but they won't look right on your 510, they are made to fit eGos, but you can put a drip tip in a cartomizer to make it more lip friendly. Just remove the drip tip to refill to prevent dripping down the air tube.

As for the cart filling sticking to the atty, it happens but it gets worse when you vape the cart dry.

If you keep from flooding your atty and blow it out when it is flooded most of your problems should be remedied.

Flooding the atty

And carts suck that way. You need to not overfull them. And I recommend the precut 510 blue foam stuffing from strictlyejuice.com. And when an atty is sizzling that is ok. When it is gurgling and vaping cool with weak vapor you have flooded it. Try the blue foam. On a full fill, pull the foam, fill the juice cup 1/2 way, insert the foam tapered end first, push the foam down into the liquid then reposition at the top edge and top off with 1-3 drops. But regardless of what you do, sometimes carts will dump juice in the atty or your mouth.

So get Boge standard resistance (not LR) cartomizers for a lot less hassle

Get cartomizers! And a drip tip. I can go half a day without refilling my cartomizers. I keep two batteries loaded and ready at all times and switch out as I wish.

Sounds like you overdosed on nicotine.

Hang in there. It is harder for some than others to make the transition. There may still be a withdrawal period from the tobacco for you. My coworker has had a much harder time than I have with the transition. She is ill and moody. Can't stand her right now!! LOL!

Hang in there. If you need to have a ciggy or two, it's ok. Have one or two and go back to vaping. This isnt a race. You can take it as slow as you need to to stop smoking. Hang in there and dont give up trying!

Passthroughs don't work well on laptops. They need two or three times as much amperage as a laptop USB port gives. You need a powered USB hub or passthrough ready PV charger. One is available for cars cigarette lighters, another for AC plugs. Puking off of anything will give you a physical reaction of disgust afterwards for awhile. Its just your body telling you this is the stuff that made you sick last time. It will go away as long as you don't do it again. Juice in your mouth is a big problem. One drop is the same nicotine you get from a cigarette if you ingest it, or get it on your skin (cause it can be absorbed through the skin). Less is absorbed through vaping, so it doesn't quite work out that way. If your getting several drops in your mouth over the course of a couple of hours, it will make you sick. I really like the KR808D-1. Batteries last awhile, cartomizers last awhile, great flavor and throat hit. You can get a good quality starter kit with two batteries a charger, and 5 prefilled cartos for $32 from myvaporstorecom (best price I found for Kanger manufactured batts and cartos). Also there are some great deals on the for sale board here to pick up batteries and cartos as well. VG mutes flavor, produces more vapor. Velvet Vapes honey hookah is quite sweet. You might like that. Caramel flavors tend to come across well, and they are sweet.

I agree, go with cartomizers. I got the cheapo riva510 from liberty flights for 30.00. Bought some boge 510lr cartos from Madvapes and I get all the great hits I want, all the time as long as i carry two batts and 4 cartos along with me.
FYI: When I first quit analogs and went to vaping The juice tasted great the first couple days. After about 4 days I couldn't taste anything, my lower lip was sore and I was suffering from cigarette withdrawal symptoms. After about 2 weeks, my taste buds came back stronger than ever, I could smell again and my sore lip was gone. What saved me was I ordered a very sweet tobacco juice that I could smell and taste even though my buds were shot. It was Velvet Vapors Vanilla, Carmel Tobacco in 18mg. That flavor cut through the withdrawal haze and kept me vaping. After a month, I could taste all the nuances in the flavors now. One thing that helps is to drink lots of water between vapes. It clears the pallette and rehydrates you as vaping dries out your mouth and throat very much.
I have smoked cigarettes since I was 15 years old I am now 67 and I've never touched a cigarette since my gogo and riva kits hit the mailbox. If I can do it, anybody can. Hang in there Lady.

Being a newbie who HAD an e-joye 501, I was having a lot of the same problems you are. Flooding atty, felt like I was overdosing, vaping a lot but getting no satisfaction. I wanted TH, vapor and flavor! I upgraded to a Liberty Flights RIVA 501 which is very pretty but does not look like a cigarette. Your hit will feel more like a cig hit & you'll feel more satisfied. Your 501 carts & atomizers will fit the RIVA too. I think the RIVA lite bundle is still in stock. Having a stronger longer lasting battery gave me more vapor, more TH, and I'm thrilled to only have to charge it once a day. I was a 2 pack a day smoker and am finally satisfied. Wash hands and rinse mouth if you're getting juice there. Don't get discouraged, good luck.

All good advice. My only additions would be:

If I'm at my computer or relaxing, I use my ego with atty and drip tip and drip 2-3 drops when the taste goes south. Driving or other activities requiring more "hand time" the Cartos are very convenient with the smaller batteries, for hanging it out your mouth. Never drip and drive!

Taste for me has always been muted. I'm on my 6th month and still wish I could find strong/sweet flavor. Currently still on the search, but getting closer. Personally I don't do tobacco, but each to his own. I do notice when dripping with atty and drip-tip the flavor is more than cartos.

Finally cleaning. I know everyone suggest alcohol baths, etc..., but with my atties I just dry burn them... Put on your batt without cart and hit the switch for 5 seconds. Do that about 5 times and leave it at that. (then charge batt :)) I also debridged my attys (find it on youtube) for more flavor and easier to clean. Can't get the crude off the coil with alcohol, gotta scrap it. Nothing brings a atty back to life than a good GENTLE scraping and dry burn... takes less time too. HOWEVER, debridged attys don't work with carts, dripping only. My :2c:
