I smoke 1 1/2 packs a day of Marlboro Ultra Lights. I want to start vaporizing. I do not want to fill cartridges because I have kids and I am concerned about liquid nicotine being in the house. Here are the questions I still have after I have watched many of the videos and lurked for about 6 hours.
1. How long do the batteries last on a 401? My understanding is that this is the one that is the most like a real cigarette - is that correct?
2. The 901 seems to be more reliable - how much longer in length is it than the 401?
3. Which company would be best to buy a 401 or a 901 that could supply me with pre-filled cartridges consistently, quickly, and inexpensively?
4. Which companies carry 401s and 901s that do not have compatible parts with others?

Also, I live in the US - so am I going to be able to buy cartridges at all after Obama turning over tobacco products to the FDA?

This is a lot - Thanks in advance.

Let me first say that I applaud your concern in mixing nicotine and children. That being said, I have 3 children and keep all my cart filling supplies in the house. This is what I keep it in:
018.jpg

I put it on top of the fridge and my kids haven't even thought about getting into it. I told them that mom & dad were quitting smoking and that these supplies were what we used to be able to do that and that they could be dangerous if not used properly and then told them never to touch them.

I would guess that unless your children are decended from Damien of The Omen fame, they will respect and listen to you.

If you want vaping to be its most effective and most economical, you really want to refill carts as opposed to buying prefilled.

The 901 was my first ecig and was instrumental in getting me off of analogs. I can't compare to a 401 as I have have not owned one. However, if I was going to recommend a cigarette looking device, it would be a 510 with a manual switch.

Good Luck and come back as often as you need with questions or for help!:thumb:

I don't have kids so I can't help with advice on keeping them safe.

I agree with Elendil that a 510 with a manual battery is the way to go. It's close to an analog's size and the manual battery gives far better vaping control.

If you can figure a good way to keep the liquid from the kids (maybe a small safe or lockbox?), it's definitely more economical and reliable to refill carts.

I do not want to fill cartridges
That's going to get expensive.
You'll change your mind eventually.

How long do the batteries last on a 401?
All cigarette looking devices have short battery life.
And it depends on how often you use them.

Smoking 1 1/2 packs per day I would guess any cigarette looking battery will get you somewhere between 2-4 hours. How much does it matter to you how often you have to recharge? I ask because there are many different options depending on your situation.

My understanding is that this is the one that is the most like a real cigarette - is that correct?
That, and a number of other models available, which are similar.
After awhile you might want better performance and not care as much about slight differences in length.

In fact, it's a decent bet you'll want something blue or platinum or black soon.

The 901 seems to be more reliable - how much longer in length is it than the 401?
This link has a lot of information about different models: E-Cigarette Models
The 901 is 118mm and the 401 is apparently 108mm.

I really like the 306a which is 89mm and feels like a cigarette.
But I wouldn't recommend it without getting a 510 for mixing and matching.

Which companies carry 401s and 901s that do not have compatible parts with others?
As far as I know all 401 parts are compatible with all other 401 parts, and all 901 parts are compatible with all other 901 parts, and the same goes for all other models.

Also, I live in the US - so am I going to be able to buy cartridges at all after Obama turning over tobacco products to the FDA?
Nobody here knows.

I agree with both Chad and Elendil in the above posts. The 510 with a manual battery is the right choice.

A question to the original poster --

What do you presently do to keep your analogs and more importantly your cigarette lighter away from your kids? A cigarette lighter in a kid's hand is, perhaps, even more dangerous than e-liquid with a child-proof cap on it. Wherever that safe place is where you store your cigs and lighter, replace it with your e-cig stuff.

Best of luck to you.

Sturrs;

The others here seem to have wrapped up most of the information, so I won't repeat it, except for the juice issue.

Using prefilled carts is the most expensive thing a vapor can do. Juice is not different than your lighter, as Richie said. Keep a safe place for your juice, and you should be OK.

Thank you for your quick responses. Well...my kids do know not to touch the analogs or lighters - so maybe refilling would work. I am not going to start with the refilling for awhile though - I forgot to mention there are 5 children - so... mom is a bit busy! Anyway - I will go with the 510 with the manual switch - Where is a reputable place to buy? There are so many companies out there.

so...what is a PCC?
I think it stands for Personal Charger Case.

You charge the case and then take it with you and it can charge a battery about five times.
So you always have one charging while you're using the other one.

It also has space to put extra little electronic cigarette parts and pieces.

So I have spent around 60 hours reading this forum. I decided to join because I want to stop smoking cigs but don't (if you follow). I cannot start a topic yet but I will reply to this one because it seems like a good place to start.

I ordered a smokeless delight ( wrong spelling) for my wife and I and we both agree this whole thing has potential. However the ecigs we got just are not going to cut it. fresh of a charge and new cart the thing works great. Plenty vapor (that is very important) and feels natural to change to ecigs. But the issue we have is it does not last long then start to taste bad after a few hits.

I have looked over alot of posts and when ever anybody asks for a recomendation it seem like a lot of "don't get this" and run arounds. I am a noob so I am looking for a site I can buy from with a quality product and price. I don't have the time to read millions of posts and there seem to be no short list of quality products. So here is a list of things I am looking for.
1. Vapor, I want the feeling of smoking.
2. I would like something I dont have to charge every hour.
4. Price is right. I am not rich so trial and error is not an option for me.
5. Timely shipping, if something breaks down or I run out, I don't want to go back and purchase a pack of smokes to get me by until my order arrives (analog?)
6. Flavor is nice, but its the addition to nicotine that I want to feed.
7. nothing bulky, I would much prefer having a quality cig looking product.

I also have read about refill. I admit that I have no clue on the dif.

Thank you to anyone willing to help me.

Up until you added number (7) to your list I was going to suggest a mod with a manual battery.

Unfortunately, I have nothing to suggest to you at this time since it seems you are looking for perfection, which can not be found at this time.

But you CAN do better than what you have, you just need to either let go of the idea of looking somewhat like a cigarette, or you have to let go of the concerns with battery life and be ready to charge up a number of them, or go with a model that has a PCC available.
