Could be residue left on the coil or in the polyfill that you taste. Or it could be that the carto isn't fully primed. Both topics are covered elsewhere on here. A quick search will turn up all kinds of good info that should help.
Good luck.
I've got to go with not primed right. I've gotten laser drilled boges and also bulk supply boges and punched them my self. No problerms with taste or performece from either. Just make sure it's saturated really good before you put it in the tank.
IBTanked offers possibly the greatest tank carto priming tool EVER devised... the 'thingy'. No joke. That's what it's called. Simply yet brilliant- a bottle with an airtight, wide-threaded screw on lid. Assemble your tank, fill it, drip some liquid into the carto itself and then put the whole tank inside the thingy. Screw on the lid and it causes an increase in air pressure that forces juice throughout your carto. Keep doing it until you no longer see bubbles coming out of the punched hole in the carto. Then just top off the tank and vape away! https://www.ibtanked.com/accessories/thingies
As long as you use the right length carto you'll be fine. The Phiniac is a bit bigger diameter to fit in the thingy. Not a big deal. I still use the old thermometer shake method. Drip a few drops and shake it down. Fill and repeat until the carto is primed.
