i have a question for you guys. no its not another leaking problem thread! in fact i havent had any issues with my ego-t leaking at all.

my question is what is the best way to remove the piercing plate? ive tried a small screwdriver, tweezers, small hemostats forceps, you name it and i cant get the darn thing to budge. i even tried on different attys with the same results. ive watched videos on youtube and it doesnt seem like they are having such a hard time with it as i am. what am i doing wrong? how do you guys get them out? any tips or tricks? im sure its likely me technique.

would greatly appreciate any help or advice!

Personally, I don't take them out and prefer less drastic cleaning methods. In fact, I think that the more radical cleaning methods reduce their longevity or kill them. When performance starts declining, I run hot water through them, do a series of dry burns, prime the wick with juice, and put them back in service. If this doesn't work, I toss it and get a new atty.

As a second option, I've also started using Ego Mega Dual Coil Cartomizers that perform great and hold a lot of juice - more than double what the Type B tank holds. The EMDCC is an overall great performer and is just $2.49 each. Try a couple the next time you need to replace an atomizer.

i guess im going to have to get a dental pick. where did you guys find one?

tom 10 thanks for the tip and ill check them out for sure. i mostly use LR boge cartos or LR 510 attys for dripping. my wife however really likes the tanks. i use to really like them as well, and still do, but i prefer the draw on cartos and 510 attys more than the tanks.

until recently it wasnt a big deal as i had so many ego-t attys that when one started to drop in performance i would just swap it for a new one. now ive got so many attys that need to be revived i decided to take them apart and give them a good cleaning. i just couldnt get the piercing plate out! i ended up flushing them with hot watter and that seemed to help but i would still like to take them apart and clean them really good if i can.

thanks for the help everyone!

I'm a little late on this, but I had the same issue, where the spike plate didn't want to move.

I tried a small screwdriver, forceps, etc., with no movement.
Then (with two new attys coming in the mail) I tried a not-so-small screwdriver.
It takes a lot of pressure, but then the spike plate pops out.

Work in a cleared flat workspace, because the spike plate goes off in one direction, the wick goes off in another, and you have to find the parts where they land. (And then reinsert the wick into the spike, using tweezers and a pin.)

I've removed the spike plate on two of mine, because I just can't pull the wick up from the top. I have to push it up from the bottom.

After reading the threads on making new eGo wicks, I'm wondering if I should try to have the bottom of the wick feed through the slot in the coil mesh when I re-insert the plate.
