Hey all, being I am attempting to make this my first day without a cigarette and I need a bit of encouragement. Yes, I am that needy right now....no support in the household from 2 other smokers! LOL!

So I would like to know what great health benefits you have experienced since dropping the habit of smoking cigarettes (but still vaping). For example, I read somewhere here that someone said their skin is much clearer since quitting. That's awesome!

When might I see/feel/experience some of these benefits? Can you share your experience? Please?

You are all awesome! Thanks so much!

I wouldn't say my skin is clearer, if anything I break out a bit more...at age 45. But since the smaller age lines have disappeared, I'm not exactly complaining. The heightened hydration and oils on my skin are actually a net plus.

My skin color is better, and my teeth are much whiter.

I don't hack like a poorly-tuned diesel engine trying to start up in the mornings, and don't bring up Unspeakable Things. In fact, the last time I coughed, I'd swallowed pepper.

I can toss a 50 pound bag of soybean meal (to feed the lawn and gardens) over my shoulder and walk around without nearly dying. I like that. And if you glance at my blog (in my sig) you'll see I do that a lot...

I can sit through a movie without needing to step out and smoke.

Most of these started about a month into it, increasing through month six pretty rapidly. They've increased slowly since then, and I seem to be back at about fighting trim at this point.

Well let's see....I could breath better within weeks of vaping and my taste was back around the same time. My hair smelled great from the moment I quit smoking :) as did my clothing. I use to be on 3-4 inhalers and a nebulizer and am now on 1 inhaler that I might use every once in a great while. My teeth are whiter and my skin does feel better. :D Hope that helps. Congrats on making the switch! Keep us posted on how you're doing and we'll be here if ya need help! Good luck!! :vapor:

Doreen - Congratulations on your first step! I'm old, a male type and smoked for 44 years (2 pad) so I don't expect my skin to clear up any wrinkles. I can tell you that I don't cough at night, wake up coughing, have lung pains and I can breathe easily. In fact, I quit taking OTC allergy med since vaping naturally dries you out. Drink water, plenty of it. My clothes don't have that foul smoke odor. The index and middle fingers on my hands don't wreak of stale smokes. The windshield in my truck stays clean!!!
I found that picking up my vape, when I would normally have a smoke, helped a great deal. I wasn't a chain smoker, but definately had a routine.
You'll find others replying with more experience and personal views.

Stopped morning hacking after about 4 days.

Skin broke out after about 4 weeks, cleared up about 3 weeks after that, healthiest it's been in 20 years since.

Increased lung capacity after about 3 weeks, steady (but slower) increases since then.

Low grade headaches that occurred in times of stress (and heavy smoking) disappeared immediately - haven't had a headache in 7 months.

Lost weight - noticeable after 1 month - due to (unintentionally) substituting vaping 'treat' juices instead of snacking.

Well I am just over a month so I can't go on much about all the health benefits because it can takes months for your body to adjust and sometimes people actually feel a bit worse because as the silica comes back to life the mucous production can increase but as WillyZee said you definitely start to smell things better and things start to taste much more intense. And I smoked for over 40 years being pretty young when I started regularly so this is kind of a wild ride so far for me, lol! I love that I am not tied to the whole smoking thing anymore though, what a time saver and so much less hassle that I don't have to find somewhere outside to go smoke when being just about everywhere anymore and we hadn't smoked in our home in a LOT of years so even at home it was a pain. It isn't easy at first, never is but every day you will feel more empowered and more like hey, I can do this! I would have told you I couldn't do it a couple of months ago for sure. Good luck!! Oh and even if you do fail it doesn't mean it won't work with more determination the next time, just have to have a plan and stick to it. I always have said you have to REALLY want it to be successful and I probably didn't want it bad enough in the past but once I got a ways in to this I decided there is no way I am turning back now. :vapor:

NICE on the weight loss and substituting! I didn't even think of that! OH, so awesome!

Even before really quiting, I smoked half of the normal amount of analogs the first month, I already noticed I breathed better.

Now, not smoking at all for almost 2 months, I can actually do a decent workout again, no coughing, no peeping, I don't have to roll on my other side at night when I'm trying to get to sleep, because my chest doesn't hurt anymore. I don't smell bad, my desk looks cleaner without cigarette ash and handrolling tobacco residues all over the place. And not having to clean any dirty, dirty, filthy ashtrays anymore is a really good side-effect as well. My fingers are never yellow anymore... Should I continue..?

Doreen, there are some universal benefits to quitting smoking that I won't list here, as most everyone knows them. I think there are great variables when it comes to the health benefits of stopping, according to how long and how much you smoked, your other physical or health problems, and just your lifestyle in general. I guess what I'm trying to say, is what problems were you experiencing as the result of smoking when you finally quit? We can't blame all our health issues on smoking, although some anti-smokers would like to.

For me personally, I am female, 71 years old, but very active and energetic by nature, and in surprisingly good health despite smoking heavily for over 40 years. I am inclined to be thin, and have been slender all my life. (Some of my friends hate me for it, lol.) I am seldom sick, and don't take any prescription medications. My blood pressure is usually 120/70. I am very grateful to be in pretty good condition, especially for my age.

All that said, in the last couple of years I had developed a bad cough in the mornings, and sometimes throughout the day. When I lay down at night, I could hear myself "wheezing", and sometimes my hubby said he heard me coughing in my sleep. I didn't have noticeable shortness of breath, but the cough really bothered me.

Within a day of stopping cigarettes and vaping only, my cough just disappeared. Like magic. I really could hardly believe it! It is totally gone, no coughing, no wheezing.

You can bet that vaping is a BIG deal to me! A total fringe benefit that I had not expected, is how much fun it is. I love coming here every day and talking to other vapers, trying to be encouraging and helpful when I can.

I doubt I will get into the "hobby" aspect, rebuilding, etc. but I love reading about everyone's gear and finding new flavors of juice to try.

I am a total convert, and think this is absolutely the best thing a smoker can do for themselves.:)

What a great post, thank you for sharing. I have noticed wheezing as well. I am currently on a sleep apnea machine....I wonder if I will be able to get rid of that from not smoking? Ironically, I just went to the doctor on Thursday and my blood pressure was exactly the same as yours! 120/70.

Oh goodness, oh so many health improvements, where to start. Within 3 days, I noticed the smoker's cough was gone. I even noticed how restricted my breathing was at night (while a nearly 20 year/1-2 PAD smoker). That was gone within 1-2 weeks. Oh, I can actually do moderate and vigorous aerobic exercise again. Like, I can actually jog for miles (okay, like 1-2 miles, tops) for the first time in my adult life. Can't remember the last time I could jog more than a block or two or climb a few flights of stairs without feeling like I was going into cardiac arrest (scary, I know).

And in the appearance department, my complexion is so much more clear and vibrant. Not that I have acne issues at this age, but the overall color has gone from sickly, pale pallor with dark undereye bags to a cheerful clarity and glow. And I swear my wrinkles are softening. No more dry, dry skin. And my teeth are so WHITE. Well, not white just yet. But dang if they don't look like "normal" people's teeth now, instead of looking like rotten corn kernels.

For real, I'm a pretty hot mamacita now ;). Okay, maybe I'll go with I look ALIVE and vibrant again, just like my insides FEEL.

Love to hear all the good stuff. We have 3 people in my home. My boyfriend, his 24 year old son and me. We all smoke. I am in the process of quitting....so those nasty ashtrays and the SMELL OMG! I guess I will still be dealing with it, but I am noticing I am becoming less and less tolerant of it!

Tell us how long you have smoked and how much. Are you having any health problems you feel are related to smokes? What benefits are you hoping to realize in making the switch?
I know I feel like a whole different person now. I had a doctor telling me that it wouldn't be much longer and it wouldn't matter if I quit or not cuz I'd be dead. I was using an albuteral inhaler 5-6 times a day. I was taking 3 BP meds and still had high BP. I was borderline to becoming a diabetic, just a couple of points below. I couldn't sleep thru the night cuz I had to wake up a couple of times to hack and choke. I huffed and puffed making the walk down th block and back to get the mail. I drank cough syrup like it was water. My food was constanly getting stuck just above my stomach, sometimes requiring a trip to the emergency room to be put under and having an endoscopy to poke out the offending chunk.
All of that is GONE!! I'm only on one BP med now and I might be able to get rid of that. I had blood work done after 3 months and my grumpy old doc was amazed that all my levels tested EXCELLENT!! I go back in a month and hope things are even better. I now take 4-5 mile walks quite easily and can bike for 10-12 miles without stopping. I know there's a lot I'll never get back after 50 yrs. huffing smokes, but I'll take this much!! If I wasn't so danged ugly, I could be a poster child for vaping!!

I would like to be able to laugh again without coughing! And singing! I want to sing again!

Oh yes!! I forgot--SINGING! I can sing again, and it actually sounds pleasant, and not filled with coughing and wheezing. I actually think my voice overall sounds more pleasant. No more throaty, gravelly "lady smoker" voice.

-enhanced smell.. both a blessing and a curse.. i can now smell when my guys go on illegal smoke breaks hahaha :p And well my food tastes better.
-better sleep due to easier breathing.. dont need to sleep as much as i needed too to wake up rested.

Just two that i noticed right away.. around 1.5 week into quitting.
