I've tried to get my aunt to switch to vaping, but she didn't really take to it. I think she's just not ready and she didn't want to recharge batteries. Anyway, I'm thinking she might go for a disposable. And now that there's one on the market that is actually like a real cigarette (V4L pats on back :thumb:), it might work.

Now my question for you guys, is: What do you think prevented your friend/family member to start vaping?

A) Not ready to switch.

B) Didn't want to deal with recharging batts.

C) Couldn't find a flavor that matched their cigarette.

For people who have someone who they really wanted to switch, but couldn't for whatever reason, I think our new disposables will "work" for them. Whoever has someone close to them that answers this poll, I want to help you out. So if it applies, let me know and I'll tell you more about my offer as people answer this thread.

I think a quality disposable may be the "gateway" to vaping. I weighed the cost factor immediately when I was contemplating switching. I opted away from the disposables since the rechargeable cig-a-likes were more frugal. Bear in mind this was about three years ago and there was little out there. I was dismayed the filled cartridges cost so much. A tobacco store even lied to me stating you could not refill them. I took a bit of a bigger cost jump right from the start buying a rechargeable kit ($70 cost at that time) with the reasoning a carton of smokes cost me $60 and if I got a week of vaping out of it all it was worth it. I think the biggest factors to getting a cigarette smoker interested is taste and nicotine level. Juices are far better now in that area and of course nicotine strength is readily select-able. My last comment is the smoker has to realize this is not a horrible quitting experience like NRTs but a healthy enjoyable replacement. Gain without pain.

You know Amraann, I really think the people with the best chance of quitting are those who do the homework. Learning about e-cigs, reading reviews, coming to ECF to talk about the best ways to switch and trying lots of different things. These people are motivated and ready to try giving up analogs. The fiddley stuff is really kind of fun once you get the hang of it. It's so much harder for those who just get it handed to them..no motivation, no support except from the person who gave them the stuff. I haunted these boards for years, made friends and had lots of people to get me through. I see the old timers who have been sucessful and I remember them when they made their first tenative posts along with me. ECF and V4L were always my go to for support. Get these people on-line and have them try the disposables..maybe that will be the ticket!

Hi MaryKay!!
I totally agree with you! Sadly my sister and Neighbor are not really online. They both have laptops and internet access but they barely go online.

Coming from a family of Smokers, I was the first to finally quit with e-cigs 3 years ago. January 1, 2011. I knew of no one who used vaporizers and found them online accidentally. Anyway, in my excitement of success, I bought kits for my brother and my sister and an e-style cigar setup for my Dad. I also purchased kits for two friends.

My sister quit with the ecig kit and graduated to Ego style and lasted for about 6 months. She started smoking again but is trying to get back into electronics. Her complaint has always been finding the right taste and the hassle of keeping her ecigs charged.

My brother has always been stubborn about changes and would probably do great with disposables if he found one he likes. He's a chain smoker so he mainly was opposed to charging batteries. He has always smoked lites and a lot of them! Maybe disposables would work for him if the price at least was comparable to what he currently spends.

My Dad loves his e-cigar around places where his cigars can't be smoked, but says he's to old to not enjoy a real cigar when he wants to… he just turned 92. I have to agree, he deserves to have a whiskey and cigar when he chooses to.

The friends that I've tried to convert, one was successful, and loves vaping. The other, just doesn't have the patience or find satisfaction with an ecig but, will ask for a puff of mine now and then. She lasted on her ecig kit until the 5 carts were gone, and didn't want to send for replacements. She also would not take the time to care for her batteries and ruined one in short order.
I do think these disposables would be great too for my lady friends who are the closet smokers and only smoke on the golf course away from their complaining husbands, or with cocktails or secretly in the garage. They could take a puff and put it away in their golf bag, purse or garage and still have it available when needed again.

So in conclusion, yes it does have to be easy and taste good. But, you can't push too much, there really has to be an inkling of desire and commitment to go from there. Disposables might have been a safer purchase for my friends and family, and a lot less moola for me in my happy excitement! But, until recently, they were not available here in shops or in convenience stores, etc. "We've come along way".
I think e-cigs are wonderful, it's the only thing that has worked for me, and I'm proud to say I stuck with it, even with some of the hassles especially in the earlier days before some of these great batts, carts, tanks, and juices were introduced.

By the way, I had just ordered (last night) the Zeus in cigar color for the golf course for good fun. That's how I found this thread. I thought they had changed to the 510 to match my other supplies after seeing the VapingGreek review, until reading here. Kind of a bummer, but still looking forward to the Zeus. Order ##100614292. I started out on autos and loved them even in an Ego style, but finally switched to the manuals about a year and a half ago. It was easier to replace manuals and there were more choices for updating supplies. So you can imagine my excitement when I saw the excellent review of the 510 Auto Zeus.

So I am encouraged by the new disposables, even tho, as I have mentioned many times, I think they should come in 18mg. I have given away 2 tobacco and 1 menthol one to my coworkers, who have in turn shared them with their smoking friends. I am happy to report that while they are not ready to commit to full-time vaping, they like them enough to have me order them some more. So altho it is not a complete success, I feel encouraged that they may make the transition yet. At the very least, every time they vape is one less inhale of tobacco!:toast::vapor:

I can't begin to tell you how many people I have got to switch, but the only one, and main one that I wish would switch over is my husband. He tried it, and coughed so much, and said that he couldn't do it. I tried to explain to him that some people do that at first, and I also told him about all of the little tricks, about holding the vapor in his mouth for a second or two, before inhaling. He tried and still coughed. He needs to quit badly. He has 2 brothers who both have had throat cancer, in just the past 2 years. Seems like he would quit, after hearing about them. He's just too stubborn...I guess, or too set in his own ways. I am so thankful that I quit 3 1/2 years ago.
