I have been reading lately about folks experiencing pop up ads as they navigate around the forum. I asked Roly about this and they need more information so I'm posting this here for those of you who have experienced this. What would be helpful at this point is if you get a pop up, please take a screen shot of it and post it here so the ECF techies can sort out where it's coming from. Please post the date, time + time zone, location in the forum and the browser you are using. If you haven't been experiencing this, it would be appreciated if you refrain from commenting here.

I have noticed the same. Although my computer security blocks them, I can take a photo shot of them when I manage my computer weekly. I was unsure where the pop ups were coming a month ago as I am a new member but, was able to do the math. I wish your post was 10 days earlier as I suspect a random email from my account went to a supplier displaying an ad. I will try and find it if I can but, I think I may have quaranteed and disabled. Thank you for policing the issue.

It seems after looking at multiple reports that Josh is only here to disrupt the forum so we bid him adieu.

If anyone has issues with popup ads my suggestions are to check your browser plugins for an unnoticed search or shopping addon and disable it. The next step would be to run a malware scan.

I had three last night for the first time, and one literally 30 seconds ago before finding this subforum. If it happens again, I'll be sure to take a screenshot. Only... how do I do that?

I guess I could try to use my cell phone but the camera on it SUCKS.

EDIT: Oldsoldier, is that really you in your avatar? Because if that is you, you look awesome. It reminds me of a grizzled Fred Gwynne.

If you're using windows, you can get a screen capture using the ALT+PRINT SCREEN keys. Go to imgur.com (no login needed), and click Web (under Upload Images, top-right area), click the "Ctrl + V" area (see screen capture below) and then actually use the CTRL+V keys to paste. Then click upload. Once completed, you'll be taken to a page of your screen capture with several options on the right. Click the icon next to "BBCode" to copy the code, then just paste into your post here as is. Then you will see your screen capture in your post (like mine below). I hope this helps! :)

Good tute.

Also you can get an app if you prefer that, as it gives you a bit more control and is handy for other stuff too - I've used PicPick a lot and it does what it says on the tin:

PicPick :: All-in-one Design Tool, Screen Capture, Image editor, Color Picker, Pixel Ruler and More

Set it to save in a .gif as this is the best solution for most uses - especially if you want to save a page with text, which will come out much crisper in a .gif than a jpeg.

If you need an app to do complicated stuff like scrolling windows on Amazon etc., then go to Gizmo's Freeware and check out their listing. They have the best rep on the web for honest reviews of free apps:

I got another one as soon as I logged on! About five minutes ago. I didn't know how to screencapture yet, so I took a picture with my phone. I'll upload the photo here shortly, but the top of it said "THIS AD IS BROUGHT TO YOU BY InfoAtoms.com."

Maybe this might help? No way am I going to InfoAtoms.com.

I'm currently running Spybot - S&D as I type this.

Just throwing this out there... on other forums, I've seen this happen because code was getting injected into people's signatures that triggered the popups. It might be worth checking when you see one if maybe your mouse just rolled over something in particular that set it off.

And, for what it's worth, I've never seen anything pop up here, except the little word definitions, like for atty.

Affected Firefox users:
Infoatoms is one of those rogue browser plugins that doesn't have a uninstall button in Fx. I would treat it like any other spyware and either runs something like malwarebytes or do some google-fu and roll up my sleeves and dig in the registry (which may be required anyhow)

If you have "Print Scrn" on your keyboard just press that and then copy into a graphic program. Mine is located right after the F12 key.
