I don't believe there is a city wide ban currently and yes, sale of tobacco to minors is illegal. The ordinance states that e-cigarettes would be classified as tobacco and their use considered smoking. I am completely ok with prohibiting sales to minors but the rest of the ordinance pertaining to vaping is overreaching.

I agree with you! It is over reaching expecially since there is no ordinance that prevents smoking.

This new ordinance will ban both smoking and vaping. There was something passed a few years ago that banned smoking in certain spaces but this new ordinance will be citywide.

The vapor we exhale does contain far fewer bad chemicals. However it also usually does contain an insecticide that is quite addictive. I can certainly understand people not wanting to breath it.

This is where it gets tricky. While I've never heard that there is insecticide in exhaled vapor, people do need to be courteous and respectful of others when vaping in public.

Calling the nicotine we exhale an insecticide is definitely over reaching the truth. Nicotine above a certain concentration is an insecticide, but at the levels we VAPE is not only not an insecticide... I can say from personal experience that it doesn't even cause insects to hesitate. Where smoke exhaled definitely chases them away.
Calling nicotine highly addictive is also not exactly true. It's the other chemicals added to tobacco that combine with nicotine to make it addictive. By itself, it is no more addictive than caffeine.
As for the article (to haul back to the topic). I shared on facebook and tweeted it to alert people of the necessity to take action against yet another draconian law based on rumor rather than fact.

"WHEREAS. the City Council finds that laboratory tests conducted by’ the U.S. Food and Drug
Administration (FDA”) have shown that electronic cigarette vapors contain carcinogens,
including nitrosamines. Further, the FDA tests showed that such vapors were found to contain
toxic chemicals such as diethylene glycol, a poisonous organic compound; and…"

 These people don't have a clue about what they are trying to ban.

That's the one down side to quitting smoking, bugs seem to like vape. I used to be mosquito free, not anymore.

Wow. I'm in Amarillo (120 miles away) and that's hitting pretty close to home. At least they're considering banning smoking cigarettes in addition to vaping and not picking on just vaping. However, I agree that it's draconian and is probably unenforceable. Fill the city council chambers at the hearing and speak out is all you can do at this point. Get as many others to join you as possible.

Yep I heard about that and it's quite ridiculous. Doubt it will stick. My hometown and I can tell you, vaping and smoking are huge here. If lived in places with similar bans on smoking. 20 feet from an entrance? That where most of the smokers were and guess what? Cops didn't care. Did it everyday for 6 months at Walmart. Hope people get more informed all around, including vqpers. I first heard from a shop owner saying it banned doing it your car and inside shops/bars. Understandably, I was ......, then a simple google search and reading of the proposed ordinance shows that those are the places exempt from the rules.

The vote on the ordinance was postponed. Apparently, when the co-sponsors realized the majority would vote no, they moved to have the vote postponed. Possibly four out of seven council members and the mayor are against the proposal. This is good news but tempered with the fact that it is still not settled.
