So, I thought I was set on the Smoktech vv gripper, but after getting the wrong batteries, and messaging many sellers on ebay, I can't seem to find the right batteries... So now I have 18650 3,000 mAh protected UltraFire batteries, which won't fit in the gripper.

So... I did some more peaking around, and have opened my selection some;

The gripper
The spinner
Vision variable volt mod (Haven't found any reviews on this, but was wondering if my batteries would fit?)

I don't need something to last forever, just until february, or march, to give me an idea on variable voltage mods. So can anyone give me some pros and cons, or tell me if my batteries will fit the VVVmod?

Oh... also, with my vivi nova, is it pocket safe? o.o I would think if it tilts too much the liquid would flow in to the head and flood the heck out of it? Or that the tank would crack and break...

The spinner is an eGo class battery and is Vision's version of the Joyetech eGo Twist. The Twist is a slightly "better" device in that, when set to 4.8 volts, the Spinner only pulls off about 4.5 volts under load but the Twist does about 4.78 volts.

The Gripper uses protected 3.7 volt, 18350 batts. These are carried by a bunch of vendors, including madvapes and avidvaper. You might consider the IMR LiMn batteries that do not require a protection circuit and are capable of higher drain.

The Vision VV mod has the advantage that it will use the 18650 batt you already have.

No clearomizer, including the ViVi Nova is pocket safe! There is just too much leverage on something that sticks out that far...bend over and it bends with you :) About the only thing that is generally pocket safe (or safer) is a cartomizer...but even that depends on what its on and how tight your pockets are.

My preference (in order): Panasonic CGR18650CH 2250mAh, AW 18650 2000mAh, EFest 18650 2000mAh.

I would never use a protected battery in a single cell VV mod. Safest choice and best performance is a battery meant for high drain devices. Personally I would probably toss the Ultrafires. There doesn't seem to be any standardization of what cell is actually inside the wrapper. You might have a 2400 mAh cell inside, you might have a 2000mAh cell inside, but I'd bet the farm that it's cetainly is NOT a 3000mAh cell inside. If those are the silver and red 3000mAh Ultrafires, then I wouldn't use those in a mod if you payed me.

Noted... and Diz, I had considered that, but was hoping I could salvage my 20$ first, but apparently not.

Will try to find some of those panasonic batteries with a charger... Wish me luck lol

Found them... Not too pricey... Can I use the charger from the others? They are for 18650s, however it is chinese. Does this matter?

I bought a Smoktech Variable Voltage Gripper from Madvapes for $50 over Thanksgiving weekend. I'm using the AW imr 18650 2000 mah battery, nipple topped. This battery is lasting me over a whole day of intermittant moderate vaping.

I like pretty much everything about this device. I was looking for a VV mod for out-and-about to spare my Provari for more indoor use. I began my search with the current 14500 battery VV mods like the eGo VV 14500 (way too long) and the L Rider Robust, but both got poor reviews because of short battery life and issues of consistantly trying to output more than 5 volts. The 14500 battery is just not big enough to handle variable voltage I'm afraid.

Still, I wanted variable voltage in a small device. I couldn't rationalize a Provari Mini at this time. The best solution I came up with was the VV Gripper. It's light, pocketable, stealth-like, has a great LED screen. The incredible battery life of the 18650 in this size of a mod is a huge plus.

Yes, I wish it was made of a more durable body than plastic. And, I've read about the poorly designed battery door; I'll just be aware to handle it with kid gloves. Like many of the cheaper Chinese PWM microprocessors, it tends to output a higher voltage than the user sets; I just set my voltage lower to compensate.
