All right girls and boys, the bad news is here as expected. Getsnus and Northerner have there new tax system up and running and you can now see how much you will be paying for da goods. Of course it's going to be different depending on the state you live in. According to Northerner certain brands will be a good deal cheaper then others. The least expensive are Gotlandssnus, Jakobsson's, Thunder and Offroad.

There are three states that will not be able to get snus as of now, Iowa, South Dakota and Mass. I haven't followed all the reasoning as to why it's banned in these states so can't help you there.

As far as shipping... I did some test orders and shipping for 1 roll was $12.19, but shipping for 4 rolls was $13.78. You can save a good deal of money by placing large orders.

Certain brands will not be available in the US. It's still a bit shaky as to what's going on with this as Northerner is selling out some brands they have in their warehouse that won't be available when it is sold out. I know Skruf is one of those, but there are others. Not sure what's going on with Oden's. Oomph recently showed up in the US warehouse and will be available long term. The SnusX bucket is not available now, but will be when they figure out how put the warning label on the bucket. The one that tells you tobacco is addictive (duh) and that baby Jesus cries every time you put a snus portion in you mouth. That's going to be one big *** label.

That's the good the bad and the ugly.

Thanks for the info Stubby. I'm going to see if I can badger my local tobacco shop into getting my Grov Black. Maybe I'll at least save shipping costs.... Let me know what you use, and maybe I can work something out for you too. I'm hoping the more I want, the more likely they will get it. I would be happy to meet half way if it would help you out. I'm in West Bend.

I noticed recently they got Stonewalls wintergreen here in town. I'm holding out for Java.

I'm well stocked at the moment. I have at least 1 1/2 years worth stashed away. At the moment there is no one in Madison that carries Swedish snus. Hopefully that will change in the next few years.

Well, I started driving myself crazy looking at ounces for this item and that and double checking them.:D

I know this has been here before, but it's a great chart for the taxes posted on sunson.com: *USA* Tobacco Laws and Taxes By State

Thanks again, Stubby posting this. Looks like I need to do as you say, order a lot to cover the shipping and I'm finding smaller weight helps me out in my state. Hmmm, bet I don't.

They are pretty detail there.

Axl, if you need some and can't get it, I would order it and ship it to you. Missouri state tax is only 10 percent. I can ship ups from work for around five dollars for the first pound and a few cents added for each additional pound. It would cost a tiny bit more but if you did large orders then it would be worth it.

Hitt, thank you! I have quite a stash, but at some point I will need to order and I am going to take you up on that! Would you mind pm-ing me with your contact info just in case? I tried to order stonewall awhile back only to find that they don't ship to Iowa so I might enlist your help iin the near future on that one. Thanks again!!

Stubby, I don't understand that either. I have Axl covered though. She can ship to me and I will send it to her. Even though the shipping charges have increased quite a bit the tax in my state is not much at 10 percent. I remember the good old days when I could order 25 cans and have it shipped from getsnus for free if it was over 50 or 4.95 if the order was less. Do I sound like an old timer yet?

If I get back to a driving job, I will gladly transport snus. I think making things like this illegal in anyway is way too wrong. I would happily become a snus smuggler.

This might stand out in the crowd a bit to much for a smuggler.. but it works for me

Seriously though, if anything good can come out of the PACT act it is that more B&M stores may carry Swedish snus. A big draw back in the past has been that they where competing with tax free on-line stores. That's now a shining glorious moment in history. If Swedish snus is ever going to go mainstream they are going to have to do it via B&M stores. I would love to be able to walk to my local grocer or smoke shop and pick up a few cans. We shall see how this plays out in the next few years. Certainly Iowa and Mass would be good places to get the ball rolling in a bigger way. SM is already in a limited amount of tobacco shops and V2 has stated they are planning on moving into B&M.

This biggest issue with your thought is market share. I would guess that PVs have a larger market share at this moment than Swedish snus. I have had little success, very little, in getting people to try e cigs as an alternative to smoking. When I bring up snus, they are totally turned off.

I can understand this point of view considering the disinformation about smokeless that has been prevalent over the past 30 years. The propaganda convinced me that it was at least as dangerous as smoking, but with the added risk of mouth cancer. They really did a good job on me until TB got me straight. I watched Dangerous Catch last night and the one Captain was talking to his young daughter on shore. He was dipping and she was trying to get him to quit. She warned him about how he has to quit or he'll get lung cancer. They've been teaching them young, them anti-tobacconists.

Unless some major networks get the word out to the populace on the safety of snus compared to smoking and somehow convince people that it truly is 99% safer than smoking, I can't see anything but a niche market here. It's not like cigarettes or PVs where you see people using them. It is a pretty invisible habit, especially something like Thunder Frost (just deposited one) where the shape forms nicely in your lip. The only way someone knows your using it is if they see you taking it out or moving it around in your mouth.

Although, that in itself has its advantages. :2cool: :D I do love my Frosties.

I'm not so pessimistic about snus. 60 minutes did an article in April that exposed many people to snus. You can get camel snus just about anywhere and Marlboro snus is on the way. Okay... those are both lousy snus, but it is widely available in B&M stores which can't be said for PV's. People are becoming aware of the concept of snus. I'm not taking what comes out of the mouth of some snot nosed kid to seriously.

Is this in here yet? I just got two emails from them..since this was filed in NY, is this for NY only? I'm still reading and understanding - I see snus mentioned: Chewing Tobacco, Leaf Tobacco and Roll Your Cigarettes

FEDERAL DISTRICT COURT ORDERS A TEMOPORARY RESTRAINING ORDER AGAINST THE UNITED STATES OF AMERCIA, PREVENTING THE ENFORCEMENT OF THE PACT ACT

As many of you know, the Prevent All Cigarette Trafficking Act of 2009 (PACT Act) went into effect today. This act prohibits the mailing of cigarettes, smokeless tobacco, RYO/MYO tobacco, etc. This was the worst possible news that we could have received as this means that we cannot serve our customers in the fashion that you have become accustomed to.

This week brought some great news as Federal district Judge Richard Arcara allowed for a temporary restraining order preventing the enforcement of the act. A hearing has been scheduled for July 7, 2010 in the United States District Court, Western District of New York.

Until further notice, we once again are accepting orders for smokeless tobacco, leaf tobacco, snus, and RYO/MYO cigarette tobacco in addition to cigars and pipe tobacco. You may begin placing your order through our web site today; however, there may be a delay in shipping your product until we are able to rebuild our inventories of products and supplies.
