Has anyone tried Heal Cabins root beer flavoring? I received a bottle today and mixed it up at 15% flavoring. It tasted great without any steeping (a little strong maybe). About an hour later I noticed my acrylic drip tip was melting. I transferred the juice from a dark amber bottle to a clear one and could see the flavoring wasn't staying mixed. I tried mixing a little flavoring with water to see if its water soluble and it's not. I had this happen one other time around two years ago with LorAnns wintergreen flavoring that turned out to be oil based. Back then I noticed it within five minutes or so because the drip tip was actually stretching when I went to remove it to drip. This time it took about an hour for the bottom of the drip tip to get a little gooey and soft enough to bury my fingernail into the acrylic.

Because Health Cabins root beer isn't water soluble, I'm thinking that it is probably oil based which is very bad for your lungs. If it is oil based, should I be concerned? I was vaping that stuff like a champ for an hour or so.

Even though it is only the second time this has happened in the three years I've been diying, I'll be mixing new flavorings in clear bottles from now on. It's easy to see when the flavoring doesn't stay mixed.

Certain flavorings do not do well with plastic, usually the tank will go first if it is plastic and that's why many vapers prefer glass tanks. Citrus and cinnamon flavors are known tank crackers and there may be other flavors that will react with plastic. You could probably use the search function on ecf for more info.. hth

The chances of getting pneumonia from vaping oil must be extremely low as it has not been an overblown news story in the many years I have been vaping. Actually the highest chance for the type of pneumonia that comes from inhaling oil is seen in professional fire eaters.

Folks extracting flavoring from coffee and tea are getting the oils out to use for flavoring. No reported health issues from that.

Most mint oils have a long history of being inhaled without any ill effects. (Wintergreen oil is the exception as there have been some rare cases with it.) Vegetable oil and mineral oil are where the real issue is and also why it is more of an issue for fire eaters. There is a member here, and one time forum manager, goes by Rolly...something or other, that vaped DIY juice made from peppermint oil for at least 9 months straight and he saw nothing but improved health. (The idea that all oils are "bad" is based on ill-informed people spreading simplistic messages because saying some oils are OK and some are so-so and some are a real bad idea takes time where as "OMG oil is bad" is quick and easy.)

Polycarb plastics is the most crappy choice a designer could ever have for vape gear. I vape oils. I experiment with flavorings that some will run screaming from. I will vape flavorings that I know have the dreaded "D" in them. I will not vape from polycarb plastics. It does make great lenses and bullet resistant windows and other stuff, but you don't find any good kitchen gear made from it for some good reasons like some common, harmless to humans, acids present in food turn it into goo.

Now, with that all said, rootbeer gets much of its flavor from wintergreen. It would be a good idea to avoid rootbeer flavoring that is based on wintergreen oil. There are non-oil wintergreen flavorings out there that taste great so there is no reason to be using it for vaping. So there is rootbeer flavoring out there that has no wintergreen oil. Try another. (Never went for a standalone rootbeer, so can't recommend what would be best for that. Most I have tried seem to have some good points and some bad points and I can highlight the good and minimize the bad when I use them as notes in combo mixes.)
