And the tears come before I even start writing!

My childhood best friend, who played with me in the sand, gave me my very first long-stem rose and took me to my very first rock concert when we were 16, who helped me through all the traumatic times in my life, who was like the very best brother I could ever ask for.. Joined the Marines when we were 20. He's now been deported to Afghanistan.

I've watched my uncle go overseas more times than I can't count, with more teary goodbyes than I wish to remember.. But this time it really hurts. My cousin's wife is pregnant with their first baby, who will be born 3 months before he is due to arrive home, and he has been denied leave for the birth.

Thus is the way of an American Solider.. please pray for him to come home safely and to meet his new baby boy. :(

I pray every day for our brave young men and women who are serving this country selflessly overseas. I am anti-war, but pro-servicemen/women support. Most of these men & women are simply doing what they feel is their duty, and I for one, thank them for it.

I will add Raymond to my list of special thoughts. I've been very lucky, everyone I've known that has served has arrived home safely.

May there be peace before we lose any more,
cleo

Sallana,

I will keep your cousin in my thoughts and prayers as I do all of our brave Servicemen and women. Something that you can do to help yourself feel better during this time is to send your cousin "care packages". Our troops in hot places like Afganistan love to receive stuff from home to make their time there a bit more pleasant. Great stuff to send includes sugar-free koolaid, instant coffee and cream packets, hard candies, beef jerky, athletic socks, those disposable hand and foot warmer packets (it gets cold there too), and especially notes and letters. It will really make his day to get a package from home, and make sure to put in extra hard candy so he can share.

I don't currently have any family overseas, but I try to pick up an item or two each time I go shopping. A couple of times a year a local group near my home collects the items and makes up care packages for overseas troops. It makes me feel like I am doing something to help.

Just a thought :)

We've definitely planned on it! We're going to send one package a month.. there were many articles online that helped us determine the best things to said - most of which you included. That's so nice that you collect stuff for Soliders.. I'm sure it is all so appreciated.

Thanks everyone for all the warm thoughts. PIF always makes me feel happy <3
