I'd keep it just to the things we want to amend...just my opinion...simple

Then we should probably put a note on it like "We're not commenting on what j0ker or jj do that is contest related. This is what we do, how we understand the process from our perspective." Just so they know we can't really comment too much on specific actions that we are not involved in. We try to provide input. :)

We're not commenting on what j0ker or jj do that is contest related, nor are we the authority on the contest. This is what we do, how we understand the process from our perspective... with notes about the contest included where needed (like the #2 in "how it works now"). We're trying to provide input.

Ok...shred away.... ;) :)
how it works now.... (I think. Need jj's input)

1. Welcome thread - entitles the prevet to an entry in the monthly contests. To get a thread, all that is needed is to ask for one or have an ecf vet start it in the new vets forum prior to turning. (In practice it has always come through PVT. )

2. avatar party- must request and be present on the PVT thread exactly 365 days after the time that they joined ECF and be present when the fireworks go off, any deviations from the original timing results in disqualification from the entry for the grand prize.

Options for what we want

1. welcome thread - entitles the prevet to an entry in the monthly contests. The welcome thread will be in the "new vets welcome forum" (a sub-forum in the veterans area) and created as a result of explicitly requesting it or an Avatar Party in the Pre-Veteran Thread (PVT) prior to turning. You may request: (A) Welcome Thread Only, a (B) Welcome Thread with a theme, or (C) Welcome Thread with Avatar Party (always themed).
(NOTES IN BLUE: Obviously cannot be self started if prior to turning. This is what "ties" it to PVT and also how we verify eligibility for low post counters that have been with ECF over a year but are not vets yet)

2. Grand Prize eligibility same as monthly contests.

NOTE: This is the "Cliff Note" that j0ker requested. In practice we can explain stuff better: What is an avatar party?, provide a sample Welcome Thread, etc.

Please make changes in and re-post the whole thing as you make edits.....

Revised with 3 & 4 removed from "now" and 3 removed from "new". Note at top added.

Observation "How it works now" item #2 is worded as a contest rule. What we do is... we throw avatar parties... contest or no contest.

Actually, reading it. The whole thing is kinda contest specific. Hard to avoid talking about it but change it at the same time..........

There's a lot of things we "Do". We post hot-links to celebratory pictures regarding the theme on "their day". We help them by explaining things and "whoo hoo"-ing. We fire off fireworks for avatar parties (and all sorts of things). We try to send reminders to those scheduled if we can. We publish the list. We celebrate their accomplishments.

and don't underestimate j0ker - from his post he is well aware of what we do. that was his reason for getting involved with this to begin with.
i really don't think he needs samples of welcome threads, etc ;)

maybe we can cut to the chase

1. do we favor flexible turning times and attendance requirement or
2. just declare everybody eligible for monthly and grand? <<<<< for this option i want everybody to reflect how many we have already turned down since january ......

maybe if we get a consensus on this we can get move on

I wasn't quite going for the cliff notes version- just trying to get the options of we want want to amend organized so that we could get everyone's opinions on the decisions so far. I guess i was talking about eligibility requirements, not quite the mechanics yet...

(an example of what i consider to be the differentiation between eligibility and mechanics would be like this: if we agree that only threads in the new vets forum are eligible, then the mechanics would be that 99% of the welcome thread would in the new vets forum. IF a welcome thread meets the other criteria, but is not started in the new vet's forum, then a mod would need to move it to new vets. )

we will have to deal with the mechanics, and should be thinking about them...but if we don't know for sure what we want to do we can't work much with how we want to do it.

(And again i missed several posts while typing- i think we're close to consensus- we just have to give the left coasters time to get here and get caught up)

Also, IMO.... if we "tie" the contest to PVT... then the welcome threads need to be created by the PVT gang and not self created after the fact of turning or created by another vet for someone that has already turned.

If we want the contest NOT tied to PVT, they can create their own threads, before or after, I don't care since I don't have to discuss how to verify it. Or have someone else create it. But that's up to the contest people on how to verify this stuff.

The reason for this....

Say a person didn't have enough posts. Or simply hasn't logged on for the last 20 months. They are not a vet yet. OK so far. But next, they rummage around ECF and "Turn Vet"...say TODAY. Later, they go off and enter the contest. That's nice, and may even be valid... but WE HAVE NO WAY TO TELL when they "turned". From our perspective, it could have been last year. We never saw their status before they turned. And the dates don't "work out". And there's no information on their profile page indicating what date they turned vet.

The other situation is, of course, someone that did turn last year, but claims they just "turned" today since they "haven't this year yet" (Fraudulent claim). How can we tell?

Any relaxation to GP qualification could be applied to those who've already turned this year. It doesn't have to happen, but it would be valid to do so.

(Doesn't matter to me, unless 2YO will now be included :) )

who is gonna track them down, mark? 70,000 posts since january! the ones we turned down just left ....
