I have been using the Precise 18 (P18) now for about three weeks and feel I can now compare it to what had become my mainstay big battery PV, the Precious -L (v1) which I have had since release back in early May. I say mainstay big batt because when out and about I tend to use my eGo/Tornado as I don't care for the size of the big batt mod in my pocket and get tired of the questions from others (IS that a big battery mod in your pocket, or are you just happy to see me?
). With the eGo, they just ask if that is one of those electronic cigarettes. However at my work desk, or in the evenings, I use the 18650 mods almost exclusively. Additionally, I like this sort of mod, because on top of a great 3.7v battery, these mods will do 6v with 2 Tenergy LiFeP04s, which I use when my 510 atty starts to die. The resistance builds up in the atty and I will switch to 6v and keep vaping it till it dies @ that voltage, then drop it in a bin. Another fav is a LR 510 on the big batt mod, but LR' 510's usually just die between 2-6 weeks. Additionally I like the 306 (still using my first one) with drip tips and will also use a 510 cartomizer when driving a long distance. I have tried the auto juice feeders of different make/styles and like some of them, but nothing that "stuck".
My first 18650 PV was the Carlos juice Box. When I got that, I had purchased a few AW power+ 18650 batteries and was hooked. Not on the CJB, but on the batteries. So I went in search of another 18650 mod that was not a box. My choices were limited at the time to basically the GG, the Silver Bullet and a new comer, Caesar's Precious -L. The SB has a great rep, but the size is just crazy, and the GG was never available, so I got the Precious and became a fanboi (I will try to remain objective). Dave over at Super-T was planning a release on the P18 and I had been following progress relatively close. Early June I went ahead and ordered one and received it when I got home from a business trip in August. I believe he has mostly caught up on his orders, but not 100% sure. Caesar is soon to release the Precious -Lv2, which will have some very nice improvements, including an auto juice dispenser that may be hard for me to resist... Anyways, onward.
These two 18650 mods are very similiar, yet so different it amazes me. The fact that they are both 18650 battery tube mods, silver colored 510 PV's made me wonder why I was getting a second one. I was curious about the P18, and honestly wanted something as an 18650 backup mod. I chose the P18 in full stainless partly because of the guarantee and partly because I have become biased to the "stainless" look. When I got the P18, I forced myself to use it because I had become so attached to my Precious. In the end, both of these are great PV's that are super reliable, but have some large contrasts.
Some comparisons:
1. The names. My wife makes fun of my "Precious". The P18 sounds more like a fighter plane! When people ask what kind of PV my Precious is, I don't like to tell them
No probs with the P18.
2. Size. The Precious -L is slightly larger then the P18 in diameter. The P18 is roughly 1/2" longer then the Precious. The Precious with an atomizer is the same size basically as a ScrewDriver MKI. The size is right and beats the P18 in this regards. However, the P18 is not stupid big in size. In fact it is very manageable.
3. Weight. The P18 weighs less then Precious. In fact I find the Precious to heavy, not in the sense I can't use it, just carrying it around in my pocket isn't really an option. But after having another 18650 mod, carrying it around in my pants pocket isn't an option either! (this is why I lean toward the eGo when mobile). Regardless, the P18 beats out the Precious -Lv1 in this regards. I believe that Caesar is changing materials for v2, so future releases may be lighter in weight.
4. Materials. The P18 is constructed of stainless steel. The Precious is made of nickel plated brass. Both are very durable from what I have seen so far. The only detracter here is the nickel tarnishes quickly, but ymmv on this because of skin acidity etc. There is some debate over resistance differences between the SS and the brass. Well brass wins according to all charts I have found. However, how much a difference is that going to make in a PV? I don't know honestly. I haven't bothered to take voltage or resistance readings to compare them. Sorry. So I am gonna say this category is a flip of the quarter. You make the choice.
5. Fit and finish. No questions here. The P18 wins hands down. The workmanship is VERY proffessional and, well... precise. WRT to the P18, you can barely make out any seams between the top, bottom, or battery tube. Pretty incredible. Only issue (being very critical) is the switch has some wiggle... LOL. Great job on these David. Makes me think about a P10 for my out and about vice an eGo (I hate propietary batteries). Now the Precious is pretty darn good IMO, but things like a pressed 510 battery connection viced a machined 510 top of the P18 makes the Precious the loser here. What is really nice on the P18 is the way Super-T did the 510 battery connection. It is slightly recessed and there is room for juice to collect when I drip. No juice flooding out and around the base of the atomizer unless I really over do it. The Precious, different story here.
6. Switch. Lets talk placement first. Being a long time ScrewDriver fan I am used to a bottom activated switch. I find the placement of the P18 switch adequate. It's the nature of the beast for a mechanical device. It works all of the time as long as I am concious about it. The throw is adjustable on the P18, and with it adjusted right, the P18 can sit on end on your desk without activating. Beware though, it will easily activate in a pocket or even in the velvet pen bag. Regardless, it would take a disaster to break this switch, except maybe the spring... The touch sensor on the Precious sets it apart. Reliable. It has never let me down.... yet. Just a touch and it fires everytime! It also takes some getting used to. It is very easy (on the v1 as the v2 will have a on-off capability) to activate the sensor by accident, by touching it or by moisture (say from a flooded atomizer when dripping). However, once used to it, it is a dream to use. And talk about firing! I still get better vapor from the same battery/atomizer combo on the Precious then any other PV I have used to date. Maybe because it is brass and maybe because the touch sensor has almost no resistance when firing... I lean towards the touch sensor on the Precious here, except when my hands are dry. Sometimes, I end up licking the thumb or finger I am using if I have dry hands because it needs the oil from your skin or moisture to activate it. There are advantages to the all mechanical design on the P18. Namely, if the sensor breaks on the Precious I probably can't fix it to easy and I doubt it will ever break on the P18. The touch sensor is partly what allows the Precious to be smaller also. Since this is another subjective feature on a PV, I will not say one is better then the other. Both have their advantages/disadvantages.
7. Safety. On the Precious the negative side of the battery goes towards the atomizer. There is a reason for this. The vents on batteries are on the positive side and there are 4 vent holes at the base of the Precious to allow those to vent away from the user. I use protected batteries, but if one ever vented I hope I am using the Precious. The Precise hasn't any vents and the o-ring seals the battery tube at the negative side. I believe Dave will add vent holes for you though. There is a lot of discussion regarding battery safety, but for me I just use protected batteries (in pairs for the LiFePOs) and am very concious of what I am doing. Either way, I will tip my hat towards the Precious as long as the user doesn't put the battery in backwards!
8. Vape. Both are very good vapes. I tend to like my Precious more because I used it for 4 months before I got the P18. Size, touch sensor, the fact it stands upright on my desk easier, and adequate fit and finish on the Precious makes it a winner. However, the P18 vapes very well also. I really like the top on the P18 better because I don't get juice flooding out of the base of the 510 when I put 2-3 drops in it. I also really like the fit and finsish on the P18, very classy.
So would I sell or buy one over the other. No. The pros & cons between these two outstanding PV's balance out one another. Both are reliable work horses that look good and work well. The Precious is smaller then the P18, yea, but the P18 is in its own class when it comes to workmanship. BTW, the P18 is made in the USA and the Precious is from Romania (My wife gets all "That's so cool its made in Romania" about the Precious). Both mod builders have proven to be very "stand-up" people that have been a pleasure to do business with.
PS: Gotta love the SS T-tips from Super-T!!!
