Hello all, my wife and I are expecting... and no she doesn't vape... but I wanted peoples views on it, is it doable? She was a smoker before we found out we were having a baby, and I know she really misses smoking, luckily shes down with vaping instead...

She wants to go 100% Nicotine free juice, so my question is this... can she Vape while prego? or is it frowned upon... whats the deal?

Any feed back would be awesome thanks!

I'm no Dr. but my thought is that while we all hope like H*LL that vaping isn't dangerous we don't really know for sure. Is it safer than smoking? Has to be but I think anyone that isn't delusional would have to agree there is at least some concern.

The ingredients in ejuice have all been proven to be safe on their own when used in their intended fashion. Does that mean that vanilla extract, while approved for use while baking, is safe to vaporize and inhale? Hmmmm...don't know, no one really does.

Personally I'd say stay away from vaping while preggers, better safe than sorry.

of course it is frowned upon...
that out of the way if she is vaping 0 nic I don't see the harm but still if she does it outside the house she will get stares....
for us nicotine is not bad but all the other chemicals in cigarettes are what kills the smoker so vaping is a better alternative
on the other hand nicotine is what harms the embryo and not the other chemicals so you are still harming the embryo

Congrats on the pregnancy!

I wouldn't do it. Anything put into the blood stream is a straight pipe to the baby, and there are so many stages of fetal development that can be affected by so many things. There are enough environmental factors to worry about without wondering if vaping will harm the baby in any way. Not worth the risk IMO.

The one and only time in my life since high school that I quit smoking was when I was pregnant. Longest 42.5 weeks of my life, lol.

Talk to the ob! Is she having a tough time? If she is, maybe it is worth a try-with the doc's blessing. I had a friend who's stress over quitting was so harmful to her pregnancy that the doc told her to smoke.
If she can get by without vaping, that's best, of course. I agree with CdnDiva, quitting when I was preggers was really hard, but worth it!

Many generations of women smoked, and had healthy babies before all the statistics were published about" Low birth wt babies born to smokers". The thoughts was that nicotine caused this directly but some belive that what nic did was curb appetite and these women took in fewer calories and thus caused low birth wts. Now that more and more women do not smoke they are trying to tie the increase in Autism to second hand smoke exposure. The truth is no one really knows what exposue to outside influences has on a growing baby when it comes to nicotine. I think that if she needs the comfort and stress release of Vapeing then talk to her Dr. about the 0 nic juices. There has been no evidence that there is any decrease in oxygen absorption from Vapeing and thats what would be the only concern I can think of besides the nicotine. If she does decide to Vape, then maybe high ratio VG unflavored to help her over her most stressful times when just the "going through the motions" would help her. You are in New and Uncharted territory and It will be up to both of you to decide how you can deal with the circumstances. All the best to the three of you! :)

I would say its ok, and more so if she just does mouth hits if she is missing the oral fixation. or even just straight PG/VG no flavors. Also, if you didn't stop eating processed foods or any foods with preservatives in it (because that ..... is all FDA approved poison), I doubt a little vape here and there would be an issue.

First and foremost I would talk to the doctor tho. Congrats!!

I was really blessed (and cursed) when I was preggers, I had hyperemisis gravidarium (where you throw up night and day for four months) with both, that's how I knew before the rabbit died, I never throw up. But the first morning sickness I coudn't and wouldn't touch another ciggie throughout the pregnancy.

that being said firstly if it's 0mg (and run this past your OB/GYN please) I dont' see the harm , if a ciggie sounds good then vaping zero nic, SHOULD have minimal consequences to the fetus if she HAS to (personally I didn't even take a tylenol when I was pregnant, that's a complicated human being developing in there and any chemicals might and have shown to impeded or harm their development) if she can, it'd be best to not.

I think we all know the side effects of nicotine to a fetus and smoking(look up webMD if unclear) to me it wasn't worth it.

to ecf Frawst. So glad you are here and congrats on vaping and the new little one. It has been a long long time since my last one but the doctor knew I smoked and told me to cut down but said quitting would cause more harm because of my nerves. If your wife want to quit, wants to vape 0nic or wants to vape low nic, I personally think it is ok. Although it has not been proven, I feel vaping is a much healthier alternative. Good luck to you both.

Thanks all, and she is doing fine without smoking... I think its more of the action over need kind of thing, So its all good haha were due in like a month, so as a gift I will get her the vape she wants, just happy to get like-wise views on the topic.

Best wishes to you both!

This is true. I remember when my niece was born, just 30 years ago. I was a kid, but I remember my sister in the hospital bed, holding the baby in one arm, cigarette in the other hand, ashtray on the bedside table, my mom honkin' away on a cigarette. In the hospital! Lmao, that all seems so surreal now
