I ordered a sampler of the prem's and while they're good tasting, and they vape good, they absolutely mowed through my batteries. since I don't have possession of a mod right now, I wasted 3 kr8 batts in one evening. not fun, since the last battery is hiding under the drivers seat in my car and I don't know if it's even got a charge. 8-o

as suspected......

  • the main wire IS a lower gauge (thicker wire) than the original.
  • the Batting (stuffing) is as thick as a shotgun shell wad.
  • the first hint of burnt taste....toss the carto. it's ruined.
  • the wick wire attached to the main wire is still the same gauge.
so.....for those who analog'd in the bathroom at high school......i'm guilty of this myself.....i wish i knew more. But, that's why i have you folks!

thicker wire means less resistance. less resistance means more current. (thin wire is a 2 lane road and thicker wire is a 4 lane super highway....so on and so on.

the "pop" i suspect maaaaayyyyyyyyy be the current's defiance going from the thicker gauge wire to the same thin original wick wire. if i am correct the pop comes from an overload on the wick wire. please by all means jump in on this and add your electrical knowledge.

the wick......heat sync? there is a little more wick in there. seems to be the exact same material and weave though. my eyes could be playing tricks. i'll look again when i butcher the next carto. i was only after the main wire this time to satisfy the "i need to know".

electricity generates heat......you would think that the wick wire would break due to the surge of higher heat. it doesn't though surprisingly. By increasing the current did we create a quicker hotter burn or a slower more powerful burn?

the carto wadding.....there is a lot of it and it is in there tight. i could not coax it out with the tweezers.....i had to pry it out.

burnt wadding.....i just took only two hits of burnt taste. it did more than enough damage to the wadding which also left a thicker than usual deposit on the center of the wick where the wick wire is coiled around. done.....toss it.....unless you like taste of charcoal with you favorite flavor.

so....anyone help me with this.....why wasn't the wick wire gauge changed?

Here is a pic, albeit a little blurry.

The left is a regular cartomizer. The right is a premium cartomizer. The premium sits about 2 mm higher in length. The hole in the battery end is also slightly smaller.

The atomizer is also raised somewhat, and the batting is MUCH denser. The wick does come up a lot further in the premiums than in the original.

So that explains it. I just ordered a new battery thinking that my brand new ones were malfunctioning. Two batteries died on me in one day and I don't vape much at all. I couldn't figure it out. With the regular carts, one battery lasted me a whole day.

and thanks for the picks bornagainst
if the atomizer is longer and takes more power to heat it than that is why the batterys drain much faster is my guess.
and i looked in the other fourms and others are noticing that if you pack the batting (pollyfill)to densly it does burn before using all the juice in side and requires adding more liquid frequantly to keep it from burning

oh man you mean i gotta go find all those threads....:)

bunch of them here:
Cartridge Mods - E-Cigarette Forum

some here too:
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/puresmoker/62071-cartomizer-questions.html
http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartridge-mods/69718-polyfill-batting.html

http://www.e-cigarette-forum.com/forum/cartridge-mods/67771-over-stuffed-cart.html

now granted these are various carts but the same idea would apply you would think

Like Sun said, the trick is to get the packing density right. The first one I tried, I packed it too tightly and it soaked up a bunch of juice but wouldn't let go of it onto the atomiser mesh. Matching the density of filler in a per-stuffed cart seems to be the way to go.

hope this helps leaford

I just opened my Premium SMILIN cart because I sensed that burning plastic kind of taste. Sure enough, the center is beginning to look burnt even though there seems to be plenty of juice inside. Is it ruined? Any tips? Anybody else experinced the same problem?

you might try washing it out and see if the brown comes out. im waiting on my premum carts to come in to do some follow up. if the brown comes out you can try to refill with juice then try to keep it topped off. sorry i'm not much help at the moment as i dont have one of the new carts to work with. they should be here tomarow

I've filled my 555 carts with regular stock Dekang 555, and they've worked fine. Just make sure to scrape the inside of the cart out with tweezers, as a little glue gets in there.

FIll using the condom method, and all was great! The refills dont last as long though, but hey, its all good. Still got GREAT vape.

just keep track of your mileage with 'em and when your gut thinks something is up then top the cart off or switch to another cart so you can save them for a later time when you can get yourself some stash to have on hand when necessary.

Tim might be the same kind of vaper i am......i have a lot of moments where i take long deep drags especially when i'm using the passthrough. plus i'll have rounds of these draws one after another. since the new cartos burn hotter i know i am not affording enough cool down time between draws so chances are i'm burning them up and not even knowing it.

due to the shotgun wad your not going to get the high heat to touch notification on the cart like you would with the 1st gen carts.

<lol> i even may have burned a Dunhall as wee speak. i topped it off with my own juice and my last three draws were a "grassy" taste but, Dunhalls taste grassy to me anyway. i just put that off to the side for now.
