So with all these problems with the dna 40 should as a first time GDNA builder, stick with the dna 30? I actually have a dna 30 board (and charging board but i guess that won't apply) I picked up for cheap that was bookmarked for a FT hana box, but that project is on the back burner for now. So I was thinking of building a 30 first and then by the time I get everything actually working maybe the 40's v1 bugs will be worked out and I can buy one for GDNA #2. Thoughts?

It seems all we hear is the defects with the DNA40's It would be nice to see some posts from the 95% who are having no problems
I like Ken am a bit hesitant to use the new 40's as of now. Lets post some success with the new 40's it would be reassuring for me at least :)

From all I'm reading, many, if not most, are having problems in Temperature Control mode, with Nickel wire, not hearing much with regular wire

I haven't built one of Gdeal's bottom feeders but I have built 3 of my own 3D printed mods with the DNA40 and haven't experienced any issues. I also have a Hana beta that works perfectly as well. All that said, there are some people experiencing issues and the roll out of the new chip has been anything but smooth. You just don't know until you put power to the chip. Bench testing them is a very good idea!

Thanks nice to hear that I was starting to wonder if any one was having good luck with the new 40's :)
Did you get your's from Mikes Co-Op?

One of my DNA40's was from the first production run and gifted to me by Evolv for taking part in the beta along with the Hana. 2 were purchased at Vape Dojo and I've got 10 that were acquired through the inimitable Mike Petro!

Raising my hand. I've been running one in a gdeal BF mod for something close to month. I ordered the board on release day and built it the following weekend.

Right, the extremely low resistance of the recommended nickel coils makes it essential to have perfect connections between the board and the coil. Any issues with those connection is likely to confuse the TC algorithms.

Thanks again for reassuring me on the new 40's :) It always seems the negatives are reported right away but never the positives
I guess that proves the old at-age Do a good job and you client will tell one person Do a bad job and they will tell everyone :)
Funny the mailman has the day off in Canada today but not the customs agents :) lucky for me :)

You can always use the DNA40 just like a DNA30 with kanthal. So the DNA40 is definitely better than the DNA30. Only the first batch had some screen issues but if you buy now you should not get one of those.

There are some issues with using low ohm nickel coils for temperature protection, connectivity issues with 510 / posts, tension wrapped contact coils might not work well, and coils in general will be bigger. You can also use titanium wire that has higher resistance so you can use thicker wire and have less of a hassle. Generally I'd say for me the trouble is totally worth it :)

I was in the Beta test....and I have tested eight production boards so far...Three have been in use for about a month (four units f you include the first 25W test board). I had one random reboot in a GDNA, but I think it was due to the battery connection not being tight enough. Only one real issue occurred and that was a board that was DOA. No screen problems, etc.

...and now I know I just jinxed myself...:D

George, were those boards from a limited production run or the full production run

If you used forum complaints as an indication, the iPhone 6 has a failure rate of about 120%!

I just happened upon this thread when looking around for a regulated BF mod. I've bounced around from page to page looking for information on where to either purchase a fully assembled unit or all of the parts, minus the board, but can't seem to find anything. Anyone mind pointing me in the right direction? And for someone who's already done this, what about a price, minus the board, for all of the parts?

gdeal, it look absolutely amazing, I want one!

Here is the build doc, the links for all the parts are in there.

I just ordered everything a few days ago myself. If you take the board out of the equation then I spent $194.03 on all the other parts required. If you add in the DNA 40 board I plan to put in it, total comes to around $260.

A lot of the parts you need only come in large quantities, plus the multiple vendors you have to purchase from all add shipping costs as well.
My totals include the shipping costs.

    Edit
I also ordered a couple extra switches/battery contacts/and magnets just to have spares. Lower my prices by about $4 if you don't plan to order spares. I didn't order the bottles, since I already have REO bottles.

My totals don't include wire, solder, flux, or any tools needed to build(other than the hex key included in the parts list)

If you plan to build more than one it gets much cheaper per unit since you will already have many of the parts. There is no place to purchase a fully assembled unit (unless you find a member to build one for you) this is a true DIY mod.

biglungs gave you an idea of cost when you do it all on your own - to see what happens to that cost when there is cost-sharing take a look at the co-op i just completed ;)
