Here is my first go at using the new hollow center pin.

I used the indoor lathe (drill and Dremel) to grind down a 14g hypo needle so it just slips through the pin. I wanted some sticking out the top (but probably not that much, I will probably trim it), then I was thinking I would drill out the atty center pin a little so the protruding needle stuck up into the atty center pin just a bit to eliminate as much contact with the brass as possible.

This seems to work ok so far except the tube doesn't fit extremely tight around the 14g needle.

So I might make something completely different .....but I wanted to try something that most could replicate.

BTW if you didn't notice, I also used a cut down original FD510 with the guts from a new FD510 and the longer/hollow center pin.

I know the pics are huge.....sorry :D

You think maybe a 12 gauge needle might fit?

Not with out some work on both the pin and the needle. A 12g is roughly 2mm ID and 2.75mm OD.

So I would probably drill out the center pin with to 5/64" and then grind down the 12g needle to fit.

Well, I have faith in ya lol

What about using solder to weld the 14 gauge needle to the center pin at bottom?

Ok ... I get it ... pictures or it's not possible :)
Easy to solder ... the tube that I have fits a touch tight so a bit of twist against sandpaper brings it down a touch to fit. Stainless Steel 316 Hypodermic Tubing, 14 Gauge, 0.083" OD, 0.063" ID, 0.01" Wall, 12" Length from Amazon supply NumberB004WPQ28I

I got home and cut a piece off, soldered a wire to it quickly for a picture to prove it.

A package was waiting for me with the longer BF center pins and the tube fits them too.

The problem with soldering to the center pin in assembled form is the chance of melting the O-ring. If you take it apart for soldering it's not likely to go back together.

Ok, correct me if I'm wrong cause I might be missing something but why solder to the SS needle when there is room to solder directly to the center pin now. Isn't the only purpose for the SS needle is the delivery of the juice?

Well ... the chances of getting a leak past a melted rubber O-Ring go up considerably :) I don't like leaks... but yes... with the "new" longer BF pins there's now room to solder a wire to the brass (note fully assembled).

I'm not sure I'll use these longer pre-drilled BF pins as I'm thinking about doing SS from top to bottom of bottle. A little flare at the top of the pin right down through and into the bottle.

Hmmm, interesting, sounds good to me

I was thinking the same thing. If the hypo tube had a flange at the top all you would need is an o-ring right underneath it to get a seal over the brass pin. I am not certain that the way the brass pin floats that the micro o-ring under the spring is durable enough to maintain a seal over time.

In any case, if you just squeeze in a hypo tube with no flange I would stick a 2mm CS o-ring under the brass connector.

You mean kinda like this?

Kinda.....I was thinking I would just turn a one piece SS pin that looks just like the original but hollow and extended that had threads start just after the back cap. That way you could screw one nut down till it runs out of threads, then put on the positive wire with washer, then another nut, and bobs your uncle.

I would have to drill out the back cap a smidge, because I think 6-32 is around 3.4mm OD.

But I cheat and use a lathe :D

Thanks so much GDeal, I just ordered the Metallic Plastic chassis and all the other parts.

I ordered a green box with metallic Plastic accents. I think it's going to look fantastic!

Also, thank you for making the internals in the Metallic Plastic for me. Just figured the internals would look a tad better if it was in a matching color instead of the white. The Metallic color (which I have ordered) is a tad smoother than the white. It'll be a bit more easier to work with..... I will post pics of everything, including my build process when I get everything in.

lol....Thanks and you can thank Youtube...I had Alt-J playing in the background and you tube flagged me. So they force you to put some no-name lame music in the track or its just a silent video. I could have redone the video and droned on with out music on what I was doing, but I didnt want to insult any body cause its a really straight forward simple build. So it was a choice between generic weather channel, hip-hop, death metal etc... I went with weather channel. ;)

There's really no need to make excuses Gdeal
