Dry fit. Raw brass ring and button.

The color does not appear to be completely uniform on closer inspection. Might have to go for a polished ring and button too.

Bottom Fed Atty...

Most of my vaping is done with my mod and atty horizontal...sitting down, elbow on desktop.

Are some atties amenable to such a position? Can they rely on wick to keep the juice from leaking (somewhat)?
I've not had any problems with a Zenith, and only "normal" leaking with a Magma.(condensation caused leaking) with my firebox/S-CA1 BF MOD.

OK, so after sanding my Shapeways parts I was going to clean them up real good before finishing them. Also, since I am planning another CA experiment I wanted to know what effect Acetone had on Nylon.

I found a VERY interesting link regarding chemical compatibility.

Note that when ran for NYLON, it showed excellent resistance to Acetone, but Severe Effect by Isopropyl (standard rubbing alcohol). This actually surprised me quite a bit. I use technical grade 99.7% Isopropyl to clean my vape gear frequently. I had never observed any damage to my Shapeways stuff, but now I am questioning it.

Ratings -- Chemical Effect

A = Excellent.
B = Good -- Minor Effect, slight corrosion or discoloration.
C = Fair -- Moderate Effect, not recommended for continuous use. Softening, loss of strength, swelling may occur.
D = Severe Effect, not recommended for ANY use.
N/A = Information not available.

Material Selected:
Nylon

Chemical Compatibility
Acetaldehyde A-Excellent
Acetamide A-Excellent
Acetate Solvent A-Excellent
Acetic Acid D-Severe Effect
Acetic Acid 20% D-Severe Effect
Acetic Acid 80% D-Severe Effect
Acetic Acid, Glacial B-Good
Acetic Anhydride A1-Excellent
Acetone A-Excellent
Acetyl Bromide D-Severe Effect
Acetyl Chloride (dry) B-Good
Acetylene A-Excellent
Acrylonitrile A1-Excellent
Adipic Acid N/A
Alcohols:Amyl A1-Excellent
Alcohols:Benzyl B1-Good
Alcohols:Butyl D-Severe Effect
Alcohols: Diacetone A-Excellent
Alcohols:Ethyl A1-Excellent
Alcohols:Hexyl A-Excellent
Alcohols:Isobutyl A1-Excellent
Alcohols:Isopropyl D-Severe Effect
Alcohols:Methyl B1-Good
Alcohols:Octyl A-Excellent
Alcohols:propyl D-Severe Effect

Edit, truncated list for brevity, use link above to see the full list of Chemical Compatibility.

The last few sets of internals I received have more powder residue than previously.
Putting some magnets in tonight I could see my easily bending or breaking the internals.
[trust me - I've bent the crapola out of several pieces - don't force things]

If your magnets are tight, press fit them with the individual pieces over the corner of something solid.
Then invert and push the magnet through - which may require a punch / stiff wire / wine opener / claw of small dog, etc to push them completely out.

This will make final assembly a lot easier.
They'll ultimately be held in with CA (super glue) anyway.

Thanks for the tips, I guess I need to add claw of small dog to my tool kit :)

Really though, the tips are much appreciated.

Tibs won't mind adding it to the co-op parts list !

No worries, I'm running into little things too and these builds are cranking up so glad to share.

Did a proper dry fit with the internals installed tonight and it actually fits better when assembled properly! Go figure. Fit seems to be just fine. I think this might have been mentioned once before, but as far as strength/durability goes, is the metallic plastic actually any more durable or is it just a cosmetic finish? This just fits in the hand wonderfully and I think it's gonna end up a real keeper.

Quality control... I just received my internals last week and the holes for the magnets and the mini connectors were loose in like if you turned it upside down the mini connectors would fall out.

I've seen variations all over the place.
Unless something is way out of whack it should be OK.

Thankfully these aren't ultra precision pieces - because commercial 3D printing just isn't there yet.
Even Koenigsegg hand tunes their gazillion dollar printed turbos.

Excellent news!
Mine fit OK without the internals but as you saw there are variances in these products as part of the manufacturing.
Nothing is perfect, 1%-ish +/-ish tolerance or no.

Will let gdeal comment on the material, but good luck putting it down once you start vaping it :D

Quality control... I just received my internals last week and the holes for the magnets and the mini connectors were loose in like if you turned it upside down the mini connectors would fall out.

I just put together another set of the v3.1.1 internal. My holes for the magnets were slightly tight, but my connectors were a bit loose. Not loose that that they are floating around in there, just loose so that they slide in with no resistance.

I only superglue the connector to the middle section. Once they are in place, I put a drop of thicker super glue (sometimes called time control) on the bottom edge of the connector with the lip. I use a paper clip to spread the drop along the edge between the connector and the lower face of the middle internal. This way the connectors are secured and I can always get the walls of very easily. Once glued they dont move.

I am not sure if this is a quality control issue. I think that the openings are within Shapeway tolerances. So parts are going to be either a little tight or a little loose. We are not talking mm's, this in the tenths to hundred of mm's, but even the slightest deviation from spec can make a differences, so YMMV.

Edit....lol Jake types faster than me. Bottom line is that these are just modder parts, they may or may not need to be modded...
