Love the design. I have read the thread and I am still a bit lost. I would love to build on of these. Can someone walk me thru the process and a cost break down. I think you guys are having a company print out the parts for you or are you doing at home with a 3D printer? Thanks for all the info.

yes, the enclosure parts are being printed for both the dna and the mechanical bottom feeder. gdeal has tutorials up for building them ;)
the little odds and ends needed to complete the build are gonna be your problem - group buys have been arranged but you are not verified :(

I spent a lot of time today on the Sculpteo site, uploading models, trying different configurations to optimize costs based upon their non-published pricing model. A couple of things became are very apparent. Grouped parts are much less costly than individual parts selected separately. And small individual parts are relatively expensive.

I uploaded a number of new complete mod models basically just differing on the the type of fire button (Ball vs Alp, High vs. Low). The pricing model for these type of set-up are much more favorable than shapeways. Thats the good news. :) The bad news is that smaller parts like buttons and rings are 2-3x more costly. I havent uploaded all the individual part for customizing colors on the DNA v3.1, but I did upload the PeKo mechanical, both as a single model and as parts and I assume that the button/ring costs are going to be in the same ball park. Right now Sculpteo is not co-operating on additional uploads (I am getting a java code error...), but the site is live and you can check it out. White Plastic is uber cheap in grouped models. Much much less than Shapeways. Colors (including white) can come in unpolished or polished. The cost of these look slightly below Shapeway, Alumide is very inexpensive vs Shapesway...almost 30-40% cheaper.

The model I showed earlier is white plastic that was polished. After playing with it for a bit, I really like the polished effect on the internals. I used to only get plain White plastic, but the rougher edges always needed a little attention, the new parts just slide together. :) So the combo of the white polished shell parts and the white polished internals along with a better price is really nice bonus, especially, if you are going to paint your mod.

That was quick....eight hours on the site today for me....10 minutes for you....lol I think I may say adios to Shapeways shortly....

SW lost out, they had the same order.......

Glad this worked out, and it was better pricing. Plus Express Shipping was only $6.50
If all goes well they will get here just in time for my DNA40s to arrive.

I'm probably gonna try out the Sculpteo parts as well. I need to order one of each again anyhow. The Alumide does look quite a bit cheaper. I would guess the finish on it would be roughly the same as the SW one? Doesn't seemed to be a polished option for it, but I didn't order the polished from SW either.

I though you weren't into bottom-feeders?

I wasnt into "drippers", and I considered a BF a variant of that. The DNA40 allowed me to warm up to drippers, now I like them but the task of dripping every couple of hits is a PITA, hence the BF is now in favor. :D

That's how I got hooked. I do use a couple of pipes while I'm still at work but everywhere else I'm running a bottom feeder.

Nice! I can order the DNA v3.1 from sculpteo, in all mirror polished Sterling Silver, for the low low price of $2,823.75 !
At only 373.3 g it's nearly as light as a feather lol.

In all seriousness, if I had the spare cash, I would order it in a heartbeat as long as everything would be guaranteed to fit together correctly.

Yup, just found out last night from jonniemac, he is closing up his shapeways shop because of their BS. That sux as it is always nice to have so many great designers to choose between.

And thanks so much for putting those designs on the new site. Working 12.5hr nights right now, but plan on grabbing these this weekend. Can't wait to get one of these with a dna40 and a mech. Thanks a lot for ruining most of my other equipment. ..lol. At least some folks will be getting a good deal soon on all the mods I gotta sell now...haha.

Cool design! I was working on a DNA20 box with touch switch last year, but was sidetracked by other printing projects and never got back around to it. I may pick it up again this winter since I still have the DNA20 sitting in my desk. I haven't had a chance to read through the entire thread, are the stls or other files posted somewhere?
