buy once buy right I always say. This is the one I use

it heats up in seconds to your temp setting. This helping hands makes soldering much easier.

Keeping the solder tip clean helps you from loading too much solder. Initially, you will re-solder 2 - 3 times to get it right. This is the only way for you to get a feel of how much solder you need to apply, and learn your own techniques to do it successfully.

I was just going to suggest that one. Bet there are quite a few of us using that one. When my 20 + year Weller gave up, that was my replacement.

Would it be ok to just tin the wire and solder it on top of the hole instead of through it?
Does that work? Yes. Is it the right way to do things? No.

Is it cool to sink the board in a bubble of, say hot glue, after its mounted to keep it dry?
The board is already conformally coated and should be pretty much immune to moisture. The part of a DNA that's most sensitive to moisture is the display and I don't see a good way to protect that, other than to ensure that your mod doesn't leak in the first place.

Same 20+ year old Weller to Hakko solder station story as Drunk. Sure is nice to turn on and be ready so quickly now! The small pointed or slight chisel tips have been working fine on my DNAs.

Ok...so this is pretty good news. While its still early to tell if Sculteo will rise to king of 3D print vendors, they are surely making a good a really good climb up that hill.

I wrote a lengthy email to their head of marketing over the weekend and got a response early this morning. I explained the two issues that people were running into ordering parts. The first was having orders cancelled due to Alumide not being available for multiple part files and not being able to use the credit for reorder and the second is that the discount code referral promotion wasnt working.

So they were very nice and provided a special code that you guys can use directly. No need to provide a referral and it will work for any of the GDNA or PeKo model. The secret code is "GDeal" and its for 10%. Make sure you use capitals for the "G" and the "D".

The other issue will be addressed with their accountants, hopefully today. If you do have a credit issued, it will show up next to the paypal option.

once you get solder, let the thing heat up. after that, apply a small amount of solder directly to the tip and see if it melts at a decent rate

if you've "primed" the tip you should be good. soldering to the DNA board is quite easy

Yeah thanks for the advice. In theory i should be ok, i've watched some good videos that explained everything for tinning, soldering wires together, soldering wires on boards, solder components on boards. So hopefully it will be fine.

I'm using an iron that is like 30+ years old.
