I was hoping that was it. I figured that was something a beta tester would call out pretty quickly and get fixed. I knew I was being paranoid, but that doesn't mean you all aren't out to get me. A broken clock shows the right time at least once per day..... sometimes twice!

I really need to cut down on my medication.....

Yes. get all the extra printing material dust out of the holes and corners, wash in dish detergent and definitely seal it up! The material is porous. If you are not painting the mod, then Krylon Matt Acrylic #1311 is one of the easier to use. Its a thin light finish and keeps the grain on the material (if thats what you like) . People also use polyurathane and thicker coatings, so it a person preference thing.

Should this sealing be used on just the exterior of the body and top piece, or also on the guts that hold the battery and bottle/inside of the body? I ask so I don't make a rookie mistake and waste money.

Ken, a lot of what you see may just be barrel distortion from the camera lense.
Was gonna say the same thing. You can see the perspective distortion in each of those pics causing the top end of the mod appear to flare out. It's gonna happen with any small tablet/phone/handheld lens when you get that close and your subject is at any angle to the sensor.

I apologies if this was answered i couldnt see it was answrred ; i just ordered a set this material is best out of the box or im gonna have to clear coat it when i recieve it ?

Here are a purple dyed and a metallic plastic with about 4 light coats of Krylon matte clear spray for coating:

It retains almost all of the texture of the naked plastic as it comes from Shapeways. Coating the white internals is optional, but will reduce smudging over time, if that matters to you.

Here is a DNA30 version on the right in purple with about 8 heavy cats - shinier, lost some of the texture:

I dont have a build doc for the device right now but its really not that difficult to put together :) Here are a couple of assembly steps from a build.

Parts from the first post: They are all assembled, just with out any of the printed parts.

RST0ibH.jpg

First tip is to get these two parts assembled and tight at the correct angle. The large hole lug will go around the FD connector and the smaller lug bridges over to the fire pin screw/nut under the top cap. I match the angle in the space in the internal part where its going to be placed, then tighten it up, then recheck the fit.

I then insert that assembly through the opening in the internal and tighten the firing pin screw/nut.

WLgXuFX.jpg

Then with the 4mm nut glued into the fire button and the spring in place (or magnets), I collapse the top cap onto the internal and pinch it tight while screwing the fire button to the firing pin. Still pinching...I then install the 510. The large 510 nut compresses the two pieces together. I use that quarter to turn the 510.

Also look at the placement of the brass bar and the brass nuts, I get them into the general position of where they need to be, but dont tight then up until after I have the 510 in place. Do the initial positioning of the bar by getting the bottom of the brass bar even with the base of the printed internal part. Then the other solder lug on the brass bar will go around the vented screw and will be held in place between the ss nut and the white delrin insulator in the 510. After I get the 510 all set up, I will then adjust the top nuts so that the bar goes across horizontal and tighten those nuts.

A full build doc is on my list of things to do...but these are most of the key assembly points.

Is the reason why people like the grainy texture mostly price? Does anyone buy the polished? On my shapeways page it only shows the purple in polished, but it looks in the picture to be the same texture as the unpolished. I'm thinking of Cerakoting mine because the stuff is pretty indestructible. I'm wondering if I should just stick to White Strong & Flexible and Krylon the internals with a couple of coats of clear. Any opinions? tips? spare change?

I would opt for cerakote, but I don't have a spare oven or toaster to bake - and I don't want to bake in the oven I use for food. One big negative of the dyed plastics - if you mess the color up, you will have white splotches that you can't fix.

All colors except black and white come only in a polished version. White comes in regular (rough) and polished. All of the plastic materials will have some grain, polished just has less grain. Alumide has grain too, but it looks/feel different, its like the metallic material they put into the Nylon is finer.

If you know you are going to paint your device, just get WSF. Then decide if you want Shapeways to do the fine smoothing for you and select the polished version of white. They basically tumble it with grit, it can save some time on your finishing sanding before you paint. Even if you cerakote a raw part, the material will still have a grain showing though, so part prep can make a big difference.

Hi there,

We are sorry to tell you that your recent order is going to be delayed. We sincerely apologize and are doing everything we can to get your order out as soon as possible.

For your context, we're undergoing a few major changes that, despite our best efforts, are impacting our ability to get you your order on time.

We're.moving our factory.in Eindhoven, the Netherlands to a new, bigger location that will enable us to better serve you and the rest of the community. During the relocation, most printers will be offline, causing delays in production and shipping. Further, our recentpricing changes.caused a majority of models to decrease in price, while some increased. Spurred by this change, many people placed large orders during this time to take advantage of the changing prices. We saw an exponential increase in orders that far exceeded our expectations, and our ability to fulfill them within our usual timeframe.

The following order(s) is affected:.*******

Our team is working around the clock and exploring innovative solutions to get you your order quickly. We don't yet have an exact estimate on your new ship date, but we're currently experiencing an approximate 3 week delay. We're so sorry.

As soon as we have more information, we will send another email update, and you can refer to your.Order Status.page for the latest status. Once your order does ship, you'll receive an email with your tracking number. As a small token of our appreciation for your understanding, we'll upgrade your order to the fastest possible shipping service we have available.

If this timeline does not meet your needs, you can cancel your order in your."My Orders"page, or contact our customer service team.

We appreciate your understanding during this tough period and hope to have better news very soon.

All the best,
The Shapeways Team.

Well that is just crappy timing. I think they really should have made sure gdeal was not releasing anything before they made plans to move. Also everybody stop ordering chit until my stuff gets made.... the inconsideration of some people. Don't they know I really want this Peko?

I think I'm going to write a strongly worded complaint on my Facebook homepage........I don't like to take these kind of extreme actions but this is just unacceptable. I'm also going to complain about how this country is going to hell in a hand basket.

Unfortunately, the only people get advance notice are those that signed up on the interest sheet. Which is now closed. That is the only advantage they get as we can not add people to the spreadsheet until the coop is live. However once coop is open, it is free game for anyone to join. At least a week before it opens tho.

fwiw - most people in my recent shapeways co-op opted to paint once they saw some pictures - even after they had paid an upcharge for black and alumide ;)
