Just posted something like this over at the other thread......I spent a lot of time today on the Sculpteo site, uploading models, trying different configurations to optimize costs based upon their non-published pricing model. A couple of things became are very apparent. Grouped parts are much less costly than individual parts selected separately. And small individual parts are relatively expensive.

I uploaded a complete mod for the Peko. and the pricing is more favorable than Shapeways. Thats the good news. The bad news is that individual smaller parts like buttons and rings are 2-3x more costly. The site is live and you can check it out. White Plastic is uber cheap in grouped models. Much much less than Shapeways. Colors (including white) can come in unpolished or polished. The cost of these look slightly below Shapeway, Alumide is very inexpensive vs Shapesway...almost 30-40% cheaper.

Customizing with individual parts in different colors is a costly proposition. It add about 20% more cost to put together a full mod if you select individual parts. :(.

My take on the Peko is to keep it as light as possible - I would never get any parts in metal. Likely due to the diminutive size, it feel more "solid" than an all-plastic DNA30.

Does the Alumide add that much weight? I guess I will find out. That's part of the reason I got one in plastic. To see which material I'll like the best. If I end up not liking one of the materials, I've got a couple of friends that will probably buy one or two of them off me for what I paid and then I can order another shell. That reminds me.... I will need to make sure to order a couple extra hardware kits when the GB goes up.

By "metal", I meant actual metal, not alumide/metallic plastic. I have gotten steel rings and buttons for my DNA30s, but my Pekos were purple dyed plastic and alumide body with orange dyed ring/button. I assume alumide is a tiny bit heavier, but likely not noticeable.

Posted this in the DNA thread too, but thought I'd post it here as well.

Just placed an order with Sculpteo for a DNA and a Peko. Looks like they're offering a 10% email coupon if anyone wants one. Not sure how many tries it's good for, but if you want it shoot me a PM with your email and I'll put it in for you;.

And it's gone!

When you get to payment page where your total is on the left of the page there is a hyperlink saying something like have a discount code? Click that and box will pop up where you can enter the code ...

Thanks, I found it. Now I feel kinda stupid cuz I was looking for a text box:facepalm:

By the way that grey coupon code didnt work for me with the polished grey version. Only the unpolished one. And on a separate note. The unit I received from them on the v3.1 was polished white. I dont know how unpolished white would compare, I was just very impressed vs the polished white I had recently received from shapeways....so just putting this out here as a PSA.
