Well I still don't have my starter kit. But it will be here in a few more days.
I have been binge reading the forum, and trying to understand.

Holy Moly there have to be 12,000 brands! I can hardly find anyone asking questions about the same kind of devise. And everyone who answers the questions all seem to use different types from each other too. Each poster a different brand and parts.
How long does this take to get the ground underneath you? How many 3 letter tag names are there, really?
Is there a Physicans Desk Reference or Machinery's Handbook equivalent where all this is written down?

OK my real question, Drunken Batman was kind enough to suggest some solid beginner equipment, and several others agreed, so that is what I ordered. Unfortunately extra heater coils (I know this isn't the proper name) were out of stock.
I wrote to customer service twice (my freedom co) and called once, but got no response.

So I began to worry and tried to find out if there were other coils I could get that would fit (its a clearomizer and 650mph battery) but didn't find anything.
Then I read about 25 different long posts on winding your own coils. I tried to ask my questions there, but everyone in that area seems to be so enthralled with ratings and electrical math I couldn't get anyone to pay attention.

Anyway, how long do the coils last? From what I am reading I am afraid they are practically like old school flash bulbs (yes I am so old I do remember flash bulbs),
namely, touch it once, its gone?
Do you have to stock, or pre wind dozens of the little coils? How much maintenance am I in for?
thanks Scott

Hi Emily
Copied from the order

SINGLE-ECIG-STARTER-KIT-IJOY-VV-650-BLACK-EGO-USBCHRG-SMOK-EBC-BLACK

1 x Smok EBC Clearomizer - SMOK-EBC-BLACK

1 x iJoy 650mah Variable Voltage Battery - IJOY-VV-650-BLACK

Is this it? Can you read this? Was I supposed to get something else? (besides liquid and a usb cord, which I did get)

You'll be good to start :)

I'm not familiar with those particular tanks and coils, but in general, with that type of device, you could expect your coil to last a few days to a few weeks.
You can find replacement coils by googling - "Smok EBC Clearomizer - replacement coils"
Rinsing your coils in hot water after a tankful, every couple tankfuls will extend their life.
Some will advocate soaking in cheap vodka/everclear etc.

You may want to consider back-ups (once you see if you like it),
An extra tank or two (or ten) so you can enjoy multiple flavors easily.
An extra battery b/c you won't be able to vape while it's charging...It may break at the worst possible time.
Many tanks will be compatible with your device - such as CE4, innokin iclear16s, kanger protanks (i would do mini so it doesn't stick over the edge), these all also have replaceable stock coils. (anything with ego or 510 threading would work).
you can certainly purchase more Smok EBCs, but you may prefer one over the other.

You could certainly learn to rebuild your own coils, depending on how much/how quick you want to learn. Or you may choose to stick with stock coils for awhile.

Hope that helps, good luck!

All good advice from Emily. Not sure how heavily you smoke but, a 650 mah battery will not last long before needing to be recharged and you may need something to use while it is charging.

Here is just one place that has the replacement coils in stock. 5 Pack Atomizer Coils for Smoktech Bottom Feeder EBC Tank from Aqua Vapor Electronic Cigarette North Carolina

Good luck to you!

ETA- I just read your first post. The coils should last you weeks as light of a smoker as you are and this kit should work just fine for your needs :)

You already have you answers. Isn't it wonderful to be a part of a group that is always there for you. I remember your other posts and I think the coils will last you much longer unless the flavors get ya and you start vaping like mad.
girl_haha.gif
I was a heavy smoker and I vape all my waking hours. Which is a lot since I don't sleep very well. But I have honestly had coils last from 2 days to 2 months.

After I moved from cigalikes to a ego style battery, I use to love the evods and ProTank atomizers. The cost of the replacement coils are high but I will tell you right now those two atomizers where very easy to rebuild myself. There are a ton of great YouTube Video's that have helped me with everything I have tried to do. I'm a frugal gal and 100ft of Kanthal costs $7 and last a long long time. And it is fun if you are someone that has time and enjoys tinkering. Same with making your own juice. I make simple juices and it costs around 3¢ a ml.

Here is a thread that is good to check out because they are on sale. I used to look here all the time to save money.

Good luck to you and I hope you enjoy what you have ordered and look forward to reading more of your posts.

Hi Again
I have to say I am already having fun. I am looking at the closeouts and such... thanks!!
I live on a very small income in a tiny town at the end of the earth. In the deep dark woods.

So does the word clearomizer just mean a see though plastic tank? A word everyone uses but may not be compatible from brand to brand?
I saw these, dual coil models. They looked good to me.
https://www.myfreedomsmokes.com/clearance/anyvape-t3-510-bdc-clearomizer.html

And glass? I saw an ad for nice looking, colorful maybe handmade glass? But the link didn't work. (404 dead link, I have been seeing that a lot?)
I already want glass. I love glass! I collect antique glass and have done so for 35 years, in a big way!

I could fill your screen with as much old glass as you could stand :p
but.........This particular bottle was the product of one of my ancestors around 1890. The Canadian side of the family.

Hey what kind of real picture can I post here, I wonder. Lets find out

Oh well that's better. At least it fills the little box.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I wonder who has the good mouthpiece? I have been known to carve pipes. Traditional pipes, except I use different woods other than briar root. Briar doesn't taste as well with certain prescription medication available in parts of the country.
I like a nice comfortable traditional mouthpiece. I use a cigarette holder that I turned from ebony wood for the little stubs of cigarette I currently smoke anyway. No way could I deal with 1/4 of a cig at a time, otherwise.

sgpipes

I will be winding coils for sure. As soon as I get past the jargon I can't imagine it could be hard.

Oh, I'm sorry. Forgive my drivvel. Its 4am and I can't sleep.
Yesterday, in a drawer, I came across a little wooden box. I made the box for "her" about 1977. She kept it the rest of her life.
Its just a little box and nobody could think much of it now. But at the time it was stretching the limits of my twenty something non existent skill to the point of insanity. It was made of pure love (with, I am sure, a few DNA bloodstains on it.)
No one else could know or care. I guess I have to just toss it into the woodstove.
If I do eventually find someone to love me again the new "she" might not want to see it around.

But I can't quite toss it yet.
yours Scott

I think that 99% of us have switched from cigs to vaping. That being said, many of us start to see it as a hobby. Especially those that use the forum. Sooo, some answers will want you to buy the latest.

Your iJoy is basic, but it works. The 650mAH battery is small in how long the battery lasts until it needs recharging. For me, I vape about 1300mAH a day. That is just how often I pick up my vaporizer. They are usually called a "batt" or "Mod".

Your clearomizer holds 1.5ml of juice. Different people, different things. For me, I would end up filling it 3, or so, times a day. So, being on the "run" with it would be harder. I prefer a larger clearomizer for during the work hours. A clearomizer is a tank/topper that holds the liquid and has a pre-made factory coil inside. The ones that require you to make the coil is called an RTA or Rebuildable Tank Atomizer. There are many clearomizers and RTAs. Some people just call all of them toppers because they sit on top. just a generic term.

Another type of topper is the RDA, or Rebuildable Dripping Atomizer. You build the coils and it does not have a tank. You "drip" drops of juice directly on the coil and vape that way.

As to glass/pyrex and polycarbonate/plastic, some juices are acidic and will breakdown the plastic tanks. For me, glass or pyrex just gives me piece of mind. But, it is normally a more expensive topper.

Just some terms, hope helps.

Envision Vapor makes nice (and sturdy) glass tips. They have been running an inventory clearance sale for a few months, so the selection is limited, but you may still find something you like: Envision Glass Tips | Envision Vapor

ETA: In the blog section it shows what the shapes look like (if they aren't in the product listing). Each one is different, so the shapes can vary a bit. For example, I have "peanut" shaped ones that look like "genie bottle" shaped. I have a bunch of them and not one has broken, even one that got knocked off my mod and went flying in a car accident.

Hi Scott just wanted to say welcome to vape. my experience with vape ( was smoking for 26 years ) I did try starter kit that cost me $20 but it wasn't good enough so I went to smoking again so I try one more time and got a joytech vv that was $40 ( me being a dumbass didn't know there was vape store and got it from cigarette store) that was better than the starter kit I had it had better flavor and nicotine I was smoking 18mg but yet it was still not equal to smoking. One day one of my friend shows me panzer mod with atomic rda. He asked me if I vape and I told him I did try but didn't work out for me. He asked me to try his mod and see if I like it. So I did and man it was like a night and day. Vape was warm flavor was way stronger. I loved it so much I had to get one. But panzer was hard to find lol. Any how if you want to know about coil building there is nothing like you tube. Also u can see what rda is good ( flavor or cloud ) or if u want rta. If you want strong flavor and warm vape mass of airflow don't think you can beat rda. But that's only of u like building stuff due to building coil. I personally love rda and now I'm trying to get rta ( rta didn't know what I like so ended up buying 3 so far kayfun v4 clone. Kager mini and lemo drop) I think good way to start is get yourself vv/vw device nothing fancy $60-100(box mod) and a rda or a tank depending if u like to build stuff or not. Tank atlantis is great for a beginner. RDA for me I like dark horse due to its $80 ok flavor mass airflow. Once again welcome to vaping and wish you have a great experience from it ^^

Regarding terminology here's a little trick to help you. See the little dotted line under this> th or ECF ? If you hover your mouse cursor over the letters, a little box tells you what it is.

Here are some links as well. There is much duplication between these as some of these terms go back to the beginning, when I started vaping 8+ years ago.

Vaping Terminology

1. A – Z E-Cig Glossary
2. e-Cigarette Jargon and Terms – eCig 101
3. Vaping Glossary - what does it all mean?
4. ECF Abbreviations 101

#4 is very handy when trying to decipher ECF members slang.
