Problem with my battery or cartomizer?

I recently made the switch to E-Cigs, and have a quick question about whether or not my device is working correctly.

I have the eGo-CTwist, and all of a sudden when i screw on my cartomizer there is no vape coming out. The battery is fully charged, and if i tighten it to the point where it is no longer teeter-tottering on the battery unit, it does not work and blinks about 5 times. It works fine when it is extremely loosely attached to the battery.

I'm assuming the pin that attaches to the battery got bent or something and i need to replace it?

Well, I bought a starter pack with 2 batteries, and both aren't working at the moment. Quite a bummer. When i attach any of my 4 cartos to the battery, the LED blinks about 5 times, and doesn't work. I'm planning on bringing them back to the store i bought them at down the street tomorrow morning to see if they can help me. I did try pulling the pin up, but that didn't do anything. I'm hoping i didn't get a bad batch from the manufacturer.

It sounds exactly like a short circuit in the carto. If you tighten it too much on the battery you push the pin in, giving a little more slack to the lead wires and allowing them to short. It does happen occasionally, but to four of them?

It's a common mistake to tighten things all the way down, because that's the ways it seems it should work. Actually you really should be just tightening things on the battery so they just make a good positive contact and leave it at that.

Should I try lifting the center pin up again? I'm truly at a loss. I thought I did that the other day, but I don't want to be doing this every day or so. I'm probably going to see if I can replace with another unit of the same model, but may end up buying a different one all together. I'm just afraid that when i lift the center pin a bit, that it is going to get completely disconnected. I might as well take them over to my local shop and see what they can do for me.

You should not tighten the carto all the way tight onto the battery. So, your carto should have a bit of movement on top of the battery. If you tighten it all the way so it does not move, you will eventually push the battery pin in too far. When a charged battery blinks five times and shuts down it is because there is a short - probably because you tightened the carto too much. I really wish companies told people this stuff when they sell the gear!

Yeah, The Woman who sold it to me specifically told me to tighten the carto to the battery. I'm seriously hoping she didnt tell me to do that so she could charge me to get it fixed. In any case, theres more than one shop in town, looks like im going to try another one.

Yes, try somewhere else. There's also a lot more stuff available online if you can afford to wait for postage.

Give this a whirl
The eGo-C upgrade battery is the newest improvement of Joyetech battery. It comes with the logo "eGo-CTM upgrade" branded laser in the bottom steel plate and "CE" and the WEEE label in the connector part. It's sealed to prevent being spoiled by e-liquid.

The biggest improvement of this battery: it has two modes to switch. One is the constant voltage output mode which gives constant 3.3V (when it's driving the atomizer. load added)) and is the same as the normal eGo-C battery. The other is variable voltage output mode, in this mode, the voltage will change from 4.15V to 3.6V as the lithium battery power decreases.

When you press the button and the LED is blue, the unit is in constant voltage mode.

When you press the button and the LED is orange, the unit is in variable voltage mode.

1c. To switch from variable voltage to constant 3.3v output mode, lock the battery by using 5 clicks (orange LED blinks 3 times).

2c. Then press and hold the button for 5 seconds (not 5 clicks), LED will change to blue with 3 blinks. The battery has now switched to constant voltage output mode.

3c. Then click the button 5 times to turn it back on.

4c. In constant voltage output mode, the LED is blue.

5c. When charging, blue LED will blink 5 times.

1v. To switch from constant voltage output mode to variable voltage output, lock the battery by using 5 clicks (blue LED blinks 3 times).

2v. Then press and hold the button for 5 seconds (not 5 clicks), LED will change to orange with 3 blinks. The battery has switched to variable voltage output mode.

3v. Then click the button 5 times, to turn it back on.

4v. In variable voltage output mode, the LED is orange and battery doesn't have power display function.

5v. When charging, the orange LED will blink 5 times.

This battery also has the lock/unlock function (5-click protection) in both of the two modes. The new protection circuitry makes it safer and easier to use. This can prevent accidental battery discharge when not in use. Constant voltage output & variable voltage output, intensified short circuit protection, discharge and overcharge protection, and high-stability are features of this lithium battery.

10 seconds cutoff time!

Joye eGo-C Twist

One Battery - Various Voltage Choices

The inner smart Buck BOOST converter can adjust voltage from 3.2 volt to 4.8 volt.

Choose the voltage that works best for you and vape to your satisfaction!

A fully charged eGo-C Twist variable voltage battery will provide approximately 6 hours of vaping. It takes 2-3 hours to be fully charged using fast USB charger for eGo/eGo-T/eGo-C! Using the battery at a higher voltage output will drain the battery quicker than when using it at a lower voltage. Be careful not to damage atomizers/cartomizers. Driving them with too much power for too long or running them dry can burn them out. We recommend you starting with a low voltage setting and working your way up until you find the right setting for your atomizer/cartomizer. How to adjust the output voltage? There are 8 grids on the knob at the bottom, and each represents 0.2. Spin the knob in a clockwise direction to increase output voltage and spin the knob in anti-clockwise direction to decrease output voltage. High output voltage gives more vapor. You can adjust the output voltage so easily and enjoy the whole vapor time. Generally, the battery is shipped in the off position. In off position, it will not function even when pressing the button. To turn on battery, press manual button 5 times within 2 seconds. You will see white LED flash. To turn off battery, press manual button 5 times within 2 second as well, the white LED will flash! "5-click protection" can protect the battery from being activated when you do not want or do not use it. No more firing in your pocket!

When pressing the button on a manual battery, users are urged to depress the button in a straight down manner with light pressure.

Pressing from the bottom or sides, as well as using too much pressure can result in damage to the button or the pressure switch inside the unit. We can provide no warranty or returns for damaged buttons on the unit.
