Has anyone else had problems with the USPS? I ordered stuff from one of the suppliers, and never got it. It shows as shipped and received. This seems to be a very reliable supplier, so I' sure it has to do with the postal (non)service. I've filed a complaint with them, but got the distinct impression that there was nothing they could/would do. Any help?

I had a similar situation a couple of weeks back with a Saturday delivery to my office, which was closed at the time. USPS on-line referred my complaint to the local Post Office. The local Post Master followed up promptly by phone and within a couple of hours called me back to advise me my order was indeed delivered but there had been a rash of mail-theft and others in the area had also had packages and checks stolen.

She offered to write a letter to the vendor in hopes that they would re-ship my order at no charge but I declined as it wasn't their fault. She did send letters to all the local businesses suggesting they stop Saturday deliveries if they weren't open on weekends and reported the thefts to local and federal authorities.

Nothing more they could do but at least we uncovered the "crime-spree" and all the businesses in the area stopped Saturday deliveries.

Clearly your complaint hasn't gotten the same response. Hope you get your stuff.

Does it happen to say that it was delivered in Oakland, CA? If so, this is a known issue with the USPS delivery confirmation system (as stated by one of the suppliers here). Your order will come if thats the case. Something with the USPS site doesn't seem update properly.

Interesting - mine was a Saturday delivery as well. Maybe the Post Office SHOULD stop Saturday deliveries.
NO please don't stop Saturdays. That is when I try to plan all my shipments to hit the box. That way someone is home and the package thiefs are kept at bay.

Was tracked as received last Saturday, the 11th. Contacted vendor yesterday afternoon by email - he called a couple of hours later. He told me to call the post office, which I did, and was told by them to file a complaint - which I did. I really don't think it is/was the vendors fault. He gets great reviews and I've had another order from him filled, shipped and recieved in practically no time. Guess I'm just out the $50. bucks (and have to order another Riva kit). Planning to get my sister started - she'll just have to wait 'til I get some extra bucks and I'll have him ship it to my work address.

Anyone can stop Saturday deliveries to their specific address by requesting it in writing on company letterhead or personal stationery. It doesn't have to be anything fancy, just a formal request. Here's an example:

Dear USPS:

Until further notice, please suspend all Saturday mail delivery addressed to anyone at [COMPANY NAME], located at [PHYSICAL ADDRESS].

Please include any weekend mail with deliveries made on the following Monday or, in the event of a USPS recognized holiday, the next business day.

Thank you for your cooperation in this matter.

I'm with Liv2Ski, I want mail at home on Saturdays, just not at the office in an industrial park.

It happened to me on my very 1st order, EXCEPT the pkg never did show as delivered. I had to wait 2 extra weeks, but the vendor DID send me another kit. If the pkg shows delivered, that's the nail in the coffin-No way a vendor will reship (on them). Some vendors allow you to add receive by signature only-that's your only safety net, sorta.

A friend of mine worked for USPS for awhile and he said that approximately 1/3 of all USA mail gets "lost". He said a lot of times, especially with things in envelopes, the items get dropped on the floor and then kicked under the scales. They don't clean out the scales on a regular basis either, it could be months before they do.

As much as I complain about living in such a small town, I will say that I love that people around here don't seem to steal mail. I've had boxes dropped off at my front door that have sat there all day while I was a work.

I have to brag on USPS. My husband has an internet business and ships thousands of packages since 1997 and has never loss a package. He has had a couple of delayed deliveries due to package getting loss but it was found later.

I have used USPS my whole life and have never loss a package. I have loss packages mailed UPS and Fedex. You can always buy insurance on your mail but to file a claim takes several months to get reimbursed from USPS.

Signature delivery is a good idea. Also, you can request packages to be left in a specific location. Sometimes all you need for this is to ask your driver. Mine voluntarily leaves large boxes on our back porch.

I've had packages marked delivered twice and they weren't. 1st time was one of my son's Christmas presents. The 2nd was my 1st V4L order. Both ended up on a shelf at the post office for some reason. Both times this happend, my regular driver was on vacation.
