I have tons of 510 attys, but only because that is what my grandma uses exclusively. She goes through them like gangbusters (about 5/month using regular batts), while I'm on the same 2 since March. Getting her a 3.7V mod and hopefully/eventually the Protege and tons of spare attys. In all fairness, I went through something like 4-5 510 attys in about 2wks when I first got the 510. Two in the first 48hrs. Then smooth sailing. Bad batch/user error/combination of both, I don't know.

Prior to the search for her needs, I only had 801s and might have added a 901 at some point. I've used 801s/510s/901s all at 5V and 510s/901s at 3.7V. The 901s IMO have a slight edge on flavor over the 510s. I tried to kill a couple of old 801s so I could justify breaking open some new ones. Didn't work, but I eventually talked myself into new ones. I had one 801 atty with the glue/epoxy not keeping it together, but it still worked, just needed re-glued. Atty/PD issue that wasn't the PDs fault as far as I'm concerned. Had one 510 atty that wouldn't screw on/fit the adapter. That could present a problem eventually, but not sure there is a solution.

When I run the 510s and 901s at 5V I almost always use carts with the straw mod and recently the PTB (Pyramid Tea Bag) filling and only drip occasionally. Maybe that makes a difference and keeps the atty wet enough. Worth a try if you're having lots of problems. If you're a diehard dripper maybe consider a switch to the 801 (tailpiping TY Walrus) is wonderful, or consider dropping to the 3.7V.

One advantage I can see with the 510s is the reported ability to use 306? attys. So if you like to dip sometimes, you can have one adapter for the 510/306? vs 2 adapters, one whatever adapter and 1-401.
