Probably the thread where Zofryer talked about dropping his one day old Chuck and destroying the switch on contact. That might count huh?
Yes, there was one guy who dropped the Chuck and the switch broke. And he's still happy with his Chuck, since Jeff covered it under his one-year warranty.

Of course, there is another guy who dropped it off the roof of a car going 55mph down the highway and it still worked like a champ. (And Jeff even replaced the entire unit for free just because it was very scratched up... now that is service.) I've dropped my Chuck numerous times and broken nothing but floor tiles.

Look at any forum for any big battery mod, everyone has had switches go out, or had broken switches. It's not an issue that's just confined to the Chuck, so I don't know why you are on such a crusade to bash it. Especially since you've never owned one.

That being said.... OP, there are a lot of really great battery mods out there. Take a look around and find one that best suits your needs, and/or style. Listen to reviews of the folks who have the mods, and pay little attention to folks who bash ones they've never had. You can find lots of good information about them all here on the ECF in the reviews section. One of the great things about there being so many mods is that you can choose the best one for you.

I'm not bashing, but I am pointing out the negatives, yes.

Listen, if the Chuck were significantly cheaper than all the other mods, I could see the need for it. But when you can spend the same amount or $20 more for a mod with better engineering, better components... and yes, a better grade switch... why the fascination with the Chuck at all? I get the customizable part, but that's about it.

When they were starting to get popular, I wanted one too (before I owned what I do now), and requested a custom variation with no price limit attached. My main request was a better switch, but Jeff refused to do anything that I wanted. Sure, the more outlandish things I wanted he could not do because he did not have the equipment to do it (another mod vendor IS however, but that's another story), but the switch thing killed me. It looks cheap, feels cheap, and is absolutely cheap.

If he's gonna charge the same price as let's say a Silver Bullet, he should at least make an effort to come close to the quality construction, components and fit/finish.

if you're trying to quit smoking cigs, get a 510 kit w/pcc and 10 ml of a juice of your liking(under 75 easily), test the waters first. This whole big batt mod movement of this one vs. that one, mine can be customized, so what, mine has a button that will withstand my own clumsiness, mine's got a dragon playing guitar on it-it RAWKS!!, meh, mine's so f'nn shiny, I can see myself as I turn white opening my Amex bill. I look at mods the same way I looked at Bic lighters when I smoked, nice to have but the lack of didn't stop me from getting my smoke on.

3mm thick Aircraft grade 6061 aluminum used in the SB is far superior to the standard cheap aluminum bodies of the Chuck and many other mods.

Umm, the Chuck has no aluminum as far as I know. As a matter of fact my chuck went bouncing down the highway at 55mph and still worked, The body had no damage other than minor scrapes. The atomizer got trashed but a new one screwed on straight. The fittings for the battery and atomizer worked as new and the switch still worked. Although the tip was broke off of it.

Good response copied above, Angus.

The OP, admittedly naive about mods, asked a question comparing two specific models. Some replied to that request denoting that he/she was comparing apples to oranges which is fair and accurate in this case.

That's really as far as this thread should go. But, of course, it wont and will likely morph into something altogether useless, further confusing the OP and straying farther off course.

Try to keep your posts relevant and on topic instead of name-calling. We're all adults here, try to act like one. No one is calling you (or anyone else) names or taking it personal.
As in what you stated ??? I am the rudest chuck supporter??? Get a life !!!! Better yet get a Chuck:evil: A aluminum one lmao8-o

Listen, we've all seen your blind-love posts for the Chuck, we know you love it, we know what you'll say before you say it, and we know you're the rudest of all Chuck supporters... so get over it and let the adults talk here.
Dude, seriously, we've all seen your hatred for the Chuck too.

The Chuck has a body made entirely of copper.

The sure-touch, recessed switch in the SB with the safety vent under it is in every way far superior to the Radio Shack special switch in the Chuck.
Do you know why the switch used on the Chuck was chosen?

Copper, sorry. I was talking about "most mods" and included the Chuck. Should have separated the two.

Besides the obvious cost savings in manufacture, I do not know why a switch like that was chosen, but would like to know if you do.

I'll give you this... the switch on the Chuck isn't the best looking switch in the world. It does look cheap. But it's actually very durable. Any mod that can be dropped off of the roof of a car going down the highway and still work is amazing.

Yes, I know most folks will just write me off as a Chuck fanboy. And yes, I do love my Chucks. But, you don't see me berating the other mods out there. Honestly, if I had the money, I'd own at least one of pretty much all of them. Each of them have really great features or designs that make them stand out. I've got a SuperT2 on order. I'm probably going to get a GLV, too. (It looks pretty cool to me). I own a Bartleby and a couple of Nicostick mods. I really want a Copper, too. I may pass on the Prodigy and get a Protege. I like the looks of that one. Hopefully one day I'll have a sig like yours, Bandit. I'd love to have a bunch of mods to show off.

There have been a couple of incidents with the switch on the Chuck. But that's par for the course on any mod. All of them have issues like this. Switches break down, just plain break, or wear out. All you can do is hope that you can get them repaired, which boils down to warranty and the integrity of the manufacturer. And we're very lucky to have a lot of great mod makers out there.

I've abused my Chuck, dropped it from a good distance onto hard surfaces, and it still works great. I'm hoping that all my future mods will be as durable, since I can be very clumsy.

And for reference, the Chuck's body is solid copper, and the endcaps are solid brass.

First off,
as a computer geek I'm well-aware of how arguements over preference play out (Linux
vs Windows discussions are nothing but bash fests), so I'm paying zero attention to those posts. And Denniswking, feel free to stay the hell out of my thread. I didn't come here to babysit. To anyone giving their opinion of a product, please stick to experience.
Comments like, "I've never had one but they suck" are absolutely worthless.

One more thing... careful with the acronyms, folks. I'm still learning so don't assume I
know what they stand for... like something has AFS (?). It's greek at this point.

So back on topic.
Thanks everyone for the opinions and reviews. I've been reading like crazy to try and
get a grasp on everything, and watching Youtube reviews, etc. LOTs of information. I'm
one of those people that don't make impulse buys, I go over everything. :)

I'm still stuck in the debating portion of my thought process. I'm reading/watching some
pretty awesome reviews. I understand that "mods" like the Chuck and Silver Bullet are
just that... but at the same time, I would hope that they'd have more dependability
than something "off the shelf" if you know what I mean. Of all the parts, the battery
section is the one that's supposed to last, right? The only failing would be the switch
and maybe threads. The Chuck certainly looks like a plastic switch, so it's an obvious
concern, while the rest of it appears pretty freakin' sturdy.

OH, and I was mis-typing on the button thing. It's the Silver Bullet that has the button
I like, not the Protege. Bah. In case you can't tell, looks matter to me. I've read posts
where people talk about how you'll get over the look and size, blah blah. NOT ME. My
personal computer is custom built and shiny. I love it. My monitor is a Dell 2407 and
looks kick .... So yea, if something looks "cheap" I'll never spend money on it. That's
just me. :)

Well put on all counts. Hey, we all are passionate about the stuff we own, and that won't change anytime soon.. but many of us were right where you are not too long ago. It can be overwhelming to say the least.

I have owned most of the 'desirable' mods out there and haven't had any real complaints except for the Jantystick. I would have owned the Chuck but could not get past the switch they use at the price level they are at.

I could care less what a mod costs as long as it meets my needs and I can justify the expense.

We all just want to help you out so that you don't have to spend hundreds of dollars buying 3, 4, 5 mods to get what you wanted to begin with. Although for some of us, the thrill of the hunt and the collectability in the end is just as much fun.

So whatever you choose, enjoy it.

This is exactly why I went with a mod, I was tired of replacing everything all the time. At first I loved my dse901 But that soon soured when I was back on the analogs because of component failure.

With my mod I am not charging batterys all the time, And atomizers I thought were bad with my weak 901 battery work with my mod. I get two days minimum out of my battery now and I am a heavy vaper. I think it is money well spent as opposed to buying weak batterys with a high failure rate.

Befoer if I flooded my atty it was a hassle. now I have the power to burn it off and keep going.
