Promotion of PVs in the workplace

Always looking for a way to spread the use of PVs, and faster, I got an idea from another thread that deserves consideration here I think: rather than sheepishly hope for work-place acceptance, how about we try to promote the use of PVs at work.

Don't worry about still needing analogs. I began using e-cigs in late May when my boss bought them for himself and any everyone else who smoked, and I told him then I'd be happy to try it, but I wasn't necessarily going to quit smoking.

What a great idea !

Maybe we could even start a promotion (for want of a better word) around this - suggest that companies do this for their workforce (while perhaps helping themselves too; employers often worry about 'lost time' from 'cig breaks') ...

This could be as simple as all those who have a boss making this suggestion. Employees of bigger companies could suggest it be a company-wide initiative. And, employee or not, there could be other ways to promote this more generally to employers. Once the ball gets rolling and someone can say 'At XYZ inc smokers were offered a PV, it could really pick up speed ...

Let's do some more positive thinking too, not always be on the defensive (important / unavoidable though that is)

12 people at my workplace vape. Everyone knows about it and many have commented on the dimminished smoke crowd. It hilarious when someone wants to ask for a light or bum an analog. :p

Our close minded bosses would not openly promote anything, but they would take notice if we all vaped anyway. That is the method at my workplace anyway.

Thinking about it, none of my bosses have been smoked. Perhaps smokers just don't get promotion ...

Great ideas!
AND
I have found some local tobacco shops are carrying a bit of e-cig stuff. (WA state/Seattle area)
I've seen the disposables and a few basic starter kits..... not the stuff that changes smokers to vapers .... but a good start.
The markup for a retail location makes it 'interesting' to compete with online sellers.

BTW - MY BOSS bought me my first e-cig.
A DSE901. She demanded I try it, which I did.
When I was unsatisfied.... a USB passthrough - when it died she pulled out her charge card and bought me a ScrewDriver.
Then she ordered all kinds of juice flavors for me.
I love my boss dearly - she truly has my health in mind.

Just one thing tho,
I'm the one that has to make the payments. I'm self-employed.

And hey - the link at the bottom of every post is for YOU.
Webpage with links to some of the best info on vaping, and a .pdf you can print and give out to those interested.
(Boss made me do that too:oops:)

30 years of smoking....

The problem I anticipate with this suggestion, is the public condemnation from the FDA, no matter how flawed that condemnation was. I don't think my company would advocate a solution that the government, in their infinite wisdom, has declared both more or less illegal and more or less dangerous. I don't think they'd put themselves in a position to be sued.

Not my idea as such, just realised it as something that could be promoted. Weight of numbers will count most in the end; and no need to always be on the defensive back foot. We have nothing to be ashamed of; on the contrary, we have a once-in-a-lifetime message of life-changing proportions that could benefit tens of millions ...

I have been to your site to browse already. In fact I made a note that I need to add some warnings as at the bottom of your frontpage to my site. We have some of the same reference materials :)

I do see your point and have pondered it myself. Sometimes you have to stick your neck out for what you believe in. Otherwise no progress. We might still be burning witches alive if if was not for a few brave people willing to be villified until what was once heresy became obvious common sense.

I work at a gas station and have been slowly "advertising" my PV to some of the regulars that smoke. I haven't had one person dismiss the idea. most people become more interested when I tell them it's cheaper than analogs (Wisconsin just raised taxes on cigs again, another 75 cents per pack)

In so many ways small ways, the word is getting out, and it's really encouraging.

tmbrown has a point though, given the fda announcement and the gray area we are now in legally, of course some will worry about lawsuits. I can't say, 'don't worry it will be alright'; and that's so annoying!

Given that, maybe suggesting employers allow vaping is the best we can do for now; still an important step. No 'supply' issue, and it's not actually illegal (yet).

kinda interesting story. just landed a new job today and the "boss" wanted to introduce me to one of the supervisors who just happened to be on a smoke break outside. i didn't take my 510, so i was close to this grassy area where the supervisor-type lady was smoking and was getting ready to light up when she told me to get pass this curb before lighting up. i couldn't have been more then a foot away.

when asking what the hyperventilation was all about, i was informed that it was against the law to smoke on grounds. not one to argue at the time, i said i'd just bring my pv, end of discussion. the "boss" then chirped in to negate what it was that i intended on doing and also said he had just fired someone for using chew. well, it's obvious the boss doesn't know squat about pv's and my sense is that the education curve around the workplace is going to take a lot of time.

Kina,

I appreciate your enthusiasm. However, I think people are just a little leary about promoting at work. I guess it all depends on the attitude of those in charge. It could turn against them.

I vape in work, but I have an enclosed cube with a door. My boss knows and HR knows. I just dont flaunt it, lest I awaken a sleeping giant - if you know what I mean. ;-)

Twos things for college promotion:
1) read the hell out of these forums and educate yourself about the ins and the outs. If you have all the facts, people 'see the light' in regards to bans. you nearly need to become a 'salesperson' for this new subculture. 5 mins of your time to explain how it works, why its better and WHY its trying to be banned(TAX), generally has them whipped.
2) smoke the hell out of the things :)

ive turned 2 so far, and one non smoker has ordered a kit. for her husband.

im ruthless. :p

become a 'preacher of sorts.

I fall into that 'let's not wake the giant' category as well. I got my boss (the senior VP) to buy one of these and even he's not willing to flaunt it much. If we bring this too much attention, you can be sure someone will drag out that damned FDA announcement and figure 'better safe than sorry' and ban them entirely. As it is, I can vape fairly stealthily in my office and I'd prefer to at least keep that.
