Protank 2 Rebuild trouble!!

Good evening! (In a nutshell...... ), I have remade at least a dozen wick and coils.. and they all seem to be doing the same thing... yep, shorting out. Now, i give it a wiggle, press the button, it burns beautifully.. press the button a second time, It is reading Low ohms.. so its shorting out.. but it works once, what can I be doing wrong with this coil, I have made them perfectly 5-6 wraps, cut properly, coils are neat and separated.. One I cut down off the side before the rubber grummet is placed on (with the second wire going through the center of the grummet), and then the second wire is cut flush with the top of the grummet once it is in, then i put the steel nub/cap back in.

It's weird because I checked the ohms on it when it was just completed (not on a tank) and it read 1.5 - 1.9ish, really nice I thought, but soon as I used it, it would short out.. Really hope someone can shed some light on this.. Oh and the technique I used was from grim green, and another respectable reviewer, all who had identically perfect coils like I began to make.. Have you verified that both of the wires you cut are not slightly poking out, even a tiny bit? My first rebuild had an ever so slight bit of wire poking out which can potentially contact the threading. And I mean slight, as in I had to run my finger around the base of the coil head and actually feel for it.

You want to make sure that when you cut the wire, or trim it down, that it's trimmed down and nothing is visibly showing. Cutting it flush can sometimes lead to a short. You want to make sure that you cannot visibly see wires at all.

No wires showing at all, and im hooking it to an ego vv/vw older version, and a vision spinner. If it was shorting out though, why would it always still work ONCE only, after i adjusted the coil slightly?

i actually find it better to just grab the tail of the wire and giggle it until it breaks off. little or no wire will be sticking out then

Try torching or heating the wrapped coil a few times before installing it in your protank base. Kanthal has some springiness to it and will expand the first few times it's heated. If you install it without torching, the first time you fire the coil could expand the wire enough to have it touch the metal base and short out. Happened to me three times on my first pt build before realizing what the problem was. Hope that helps.

I always "test" my coils by running my finger around the coil base where the wires come out. If I can feel the end of the wire I cut it closer and/or push it in until I can no longer feel the wire end.

Thanks for all the reply's, but I mean these coils are damn near perfect.. haha. The wires are completely hidden, the coil is completely centered there is NO reason this should be shorting out.. I am really disappointed they won't work, there's gotta be more answers

Your coil could be grounding out with the post (air tube) when you attach it. If the coil is too large or too high, when you "snap" the post back on, it's possible it could be touching one side or a portion of it. Even a slight connection would be enough to ground it out.

I rebuild vivi nova heads with out any issues but once my coil is installed I stick paper clip wire and push the positive leg of my coil closer to the center.

Ok.. I'll give that a go, which is the positive and negative again?

Positive goes to the center pin of a head. Negative is connected to whole body. Make sure the positive leg doesn't touch anything except the center pin.

It's not touching anything, it runs down the side of the grummet sorta, is that alright?

Ok.. weird experiments here.. It's on the battery with the protank base.. works once.. twice... then Low Ohms.. I just touch the coil with a piece of metal of any kind, because the airtube is off and wala it fires up again once, maybe twice, then low ohms again.. ... is going on?!?!

First thing I would check the 510 connector of your mod it might be condensate leaked into it and shorting, if not take your atomizer apart and examine what wrong.
