ProTank problems

I’m having major problems with my Protanks. After 1-2hours I get a horrible burnt taste.
I just put a new coil in one per my vape shopsinstructions, primed the wick, filled the tank,
And let it set about an hour before trying to vape. After doing this the burnt taste was back inabout 15 minutes. I have had my tanksless than a week and have already been through 8 coil assemblies. I am using thetanks on a 1000Mah Twist normally set around 4. Any thoughts or suggestions?

Hmm, 4 Volts should be fine, especially if using the 2.4-ish Ohm coils... What's the PG/VG ratio on the e-liquid you use? If there's a lot of VG in it, that could be causing it, and could be solved by removing one of the extra "flavor wicks" that lay on top of the coil itself, if you remove the air shaft from the coil head.

Sounds like you are getting dry hits and that it is unable to wick fast enough to keep up with you. I would take one of your bad coils and remove one of tne flavor wicks from it. To do this, take off the silicone cap from the coil. Wiggle the top post of the coil until it comes loose. It is press fit in,and shouldnt be to hard to get out. Under that top post you will find 2 extra wicks sitting on top of the coil. Remove both and clean your coil if it looks blackened. Then replace on of the top wicks,replace the post, and replace the silicone cover. I do this with any of my coils that i will use with a 50/50 or higher vg liquid.

Thanks to the forum, removing the wicks was one of the first things I tried. It doesn’t seem to matter which juice I use (70/30 pg/vg, up to 100 vg) I still get the same thing. I just took apart the last coil assembly and it looks fine, very clean, but yet it still taste like sh#%!

Have you checked the resistance of the heads? With the number you've been through I cant imagine they are all wrong, but i have have several 2.6 ohm heads test at 1.6 ohm, and several 1.8 ohm test at 2.6 ohms. I usually vape my 2 ohm or higher heads at over 4 volts. And my 1.5 - 1.8 ohm heads at 3.6-3.8 volts on my evic (between 8 and 10 watts is what I use depending on liquid).

What is the rated Ohm on the head itself? And what type of juice are you using? I found that even with the 2.5Ohm heads on the Protank on my Twists, lower was better as far as voltage was concerned. Especially with the fruit flavored juices.

I don't have any way to check the actual ohm's yet. I hope my Vamo will be in today. The box is marked 2.5

What flavor juice? When I was using the Twists, fruit flavors tasted burnt at anything over 4 volts. Usually I had to set it at around 3.6 to 3.8 volts. Tobacco type juices, or juices with a more complex flavor could stand higher voltage, but rarely over 4.2.

I've used some watermelon, vanilla, JC Silverthorn and Boba's Bounty.

Try lowering the voltage on the more subtle flavors.

Bobas will not wick well with the standard ProTank heads. It's odd because the EVOD is pretty much identical and wicks anything including bobas just fine. Also, a completely full tank has issues with the air exchange and creates a vacuum. Helps to turn tank upside down and unscrew the tank from base enough to allow air in, then tighten. Should help and will go away once the liquid level is lower.
Sweet and dark liquid will gunk up your coil faster. JC stuff is notorious. Bobas is middle ground.

Not good, the JC Silverthorn is my favorite juice so far. Which, if any, clearo works best with the thicker juice?

I had the exact same experience with the heads that came with my ProTank. I rebuilt them and they are working perfectly....knock on wood! Could you try rebuilding them??

I've watched a couple videos on rebuilding them, but I'm not sure I'm ready to try that yet. What wick material and wire do you use?

If you're not into rebuilding (which I think everyone should be)... try soaking it in alcohol over night and see if that gets rid of the lingering burnt taste.... other than that I think rewicking is your only option.

I use 30 gauge kanthal with 1.5mm silica wick when I rebuild my protanks. I typically wrap either 3/4 or 4/5 wraps as close together as I can get them and use a single wrapped silica wick, with 1 wick sitting on top to help with wicking and to keep it from flooding. Works pretty well for me. May switch to a 32 gauge kanthal if I ever get any ordered. Curious to know what other people use when they rebuild them as well.

I also use 1.5mm silica wick but I use 34 gauge kanthal wire. Definitely need the 1 flavor wick sitting on top to avoid leakage. I have some cotton wick that I'm going to try using next. I'm not very mechanical so this shouldn't have been easy for me but I am shocked at just how simple and quick I can rebuild one now.
