I'm overwhelmed by all the good information you guys are contributing to this thread! And all the good links! When I used the Sentry Pro Poison, it was for prevention. I won't be trying to prevent anything any more. Thanks so much for all the great and important info!

Cancer....that makes me ill to think these Pet products could contribute to causing cancer. I lost my sweet 9 year old Pug to cancer a few months ago and it was a nightmare. I'd sure hate to think I was any part of causing that to happen.

Thanks for all the great contributions!

The sad stories just keep coming in to that site (link on first post).

I'm horrified to see that Petsmart is now selling Sentry Pro's substitute for their poisonous flea/tick killer. They should label it a dog/cat killer. And I'll not shop at Petsmart any more as they've proven they couldn't care less.

A bump to keep the warning before the public. One of the latests posts on that anti-Sentry Pro thread says that Sentry Pro said they'd pay all his Vet bills incurred because of them, but after they got all the records, Sentry Pro denied the claim and paid only for the medications. This victim was livid. He wants to join one of the class-action lawsuits. I hope he succeeds.

Thank-you for your post. My 7 yr old min-pin has not had problems with flea's or ticks so far but just in case he ever has problems I will know NEVER to purchase this product. I cannot believe a product like this is sold in any store and should be reported to whatever organizations that handle harmful products for pets ASAP. Posts like this help to keep or pets safe. Thank-you.

MINPINS ARE JUST ADORABLE
I got one and brought him home and he was scared to death and ran away
I caught him sleeping in my bedroom a couple of nights(must have come in the pet door), he really liked me
But was too scared and eventually never came back

I don't like dogs because they're disgusting to me
But I am considering having a full sized Dobermin
I just don't know if I will have the heart to kill him if the brain outgrowing the head thing happens and he starts suffering or trying to kill us all
So I'm on the fence here

Brain outgrow their head??? Trying to kill us all??? Where do you get your information from.... the Twilight Zone?

And If dogs are disgusting to you, DON'T GET ONE! You're certainly not going to do the dog any favors.

Well. Most dogs I've seen make me disgusted. However, a lady friend of mine has a dog, a big one.. It is a boxer dog.. and it's not disgusting, even though it's a large dog. Well, no more disgusting than I am... and I can live with that.

It really opened my eyes seeing that you can have a dog without the house smelling horrible or having urine or hair everywhere.

I've always heard that dobermans end up with brain swelling that makes them real mad and angry like Al Capone.. And it's very painful for them, isn't it? And if that would happen to a dog I had, I'd have to end it for him.

Well, if the dog snapped or was in horrible pain.. I would have to... Sometimes if you really love something, you've got to end it for its own good. That's all I meant!!

I hope it did not sound like, oh if it becomes an inconvenience, I'll kill it... NEVER.
Anyway I think I got this thread off of the topic. "Hijacked" it. I'm sorry guys.

I'll get out of this one and back into my own, now!!!
We can discuss it some more if ya want, over there :)

Okay, "the" is gone now so we can get back on topic again. I just read another sad story of a dog dying because of Sentry-Pro's flea and tick killer. I don't think anyone has taken this dog/cat killing product off the market, including Petsmart. I just suggest hiding the product if and when you ever go into their stores again. They obviously care more about making money than protecting our pets.

I apologize if I've already posted this but it's one of the latest sad stories posted at the original link given here:

Hello and thank you for your website. Unfortunatly, I found out about it too late to prevent our beloved yorkie Little Debbie from becomming the latest victim of this shampoo. After a bath with this noxious stuff, she stopped eating and eventually stopped drinking. We took her to the vet and found out that her liver was enlarged and her kidneys were failing. The situation became worse, complete kindey failure, zero food or water. Not ...... even with IV fluids and a diuretic. We euthanized her upon the recommendation of our vet. This was a week and a half after the bath. We didn't loose a pet, we lost a member of our family.

At my grocery store the other day someone put postnotes on the flea medicine saying something like "call your vet...do not use"

I have never used OTC flea medicine but I do use Advantage for 100 LB dogs divided up into 5 cat cat dosages ..You can only do this with Reg Advantage ( not Advantix)
It is .8 ml for a cat over 10 lb.'s. You have to have a syringe to do this. I use syringes to measure out the exact ml. ( b/c I have a lot of strays and volunteer at an animal shelter and that is what the vet does)
One of my cats has a small reaction to Advantage if given a full dose. SO she gets 25% of a dose 24 hours apart and then again 2 weeks later.

I work at a vet and there are some flea and tick meds for dogs that are fatal if contact is made by a cat or a small child so always be careful. Most flea and tick meds are monitored by the EPA because they are considered pestisides (most animal meds are monitored by the dreaded FDA). Where I work we recommend Flontline Plus most, but my boss will order Advantix and Revolution if a client wants them. Here in New Mexico our biggest concern is that fleas carry Plauge and it is a real problem here until the first full frost.

Yeah- If I had a dog and a cat that loved on each other i wouldn't use Advantix. I'd be a nervous wreck. Vets say to separate them for an hour or two but some people I know are sloppy when they apply it.

The post notes on the products is a good idea though. I already knew about OTC flea med.'s but a lot of people don't. Just putting a note on them and saying "it will kill your pet." will get peoples attention. Of course the store would remove them but you could do it every time you shopped and it might make the sales go down. Or at the very least it might save a life.

I'm no vet, but if you look at the list from the EPA I provided in Post#37, you will see that Frontline Plus is listed as one of the products causing a lot of problems/complaints. Based on my research, I will personally NEVER use any such product, except for Revolution - and only if it was totally necessary.

Sentry Pro's products are not monitored by the EPA or anyone else, so they can make all the poison they want and sell it to us to kill our pets. Beware, Sentry Pro is accountable to NO ONE.
They are monitored by the EPA, and their products are also on the list mentioned above. (multiple times) But the problem is that the EPA really doesn't test their safety for the animals. It's only tests the safety for the environment and humans.

Sentry Pro's products are probably as bad as you say, but that said, I can't help but think that they are being singled out a little too much. Unfortunately, there are many other similar products from other companies that are just as bad. Focusing too much on just Sentry Pro might make people think that all the other products are perfectly safe - when in the end, it's almost all essentially the same kind of poison!
