Hi Guys,

I just got my Protege yesterday after waiting 4 weeks for delivery(like so many other vapers, lol ). So far seems worth the wait.

I would like to know from those of you that have a Protege and from Cash/Casey(if possible), how long a battery charge will/should last when vaping. I am a frequent, heavy vaper.

Any info would be appreciated. Thanks

The answer to your question is.... it depends. Don't ya just hate answers like that?
It depends on how often you use it, how long you depress the button (length of draw)and which battery you use, maybe even which atomizer.

I use mine alot but don't take real long draws like some. I probably average between 8-10 hrs with the Tenergy battery that came with the Protege. I probably average between 6-8 hrs with a Trustfire protected battery. I use about 2ml of juice a day.

You mileage may vary.....

edited to add, my batteries are approx 1 1/2 months old and I don't usually wait til they are completely dead before changing.

I just got my Protege yesterday as well and on the first battery charge I got about 5 hours of usage before vapor production started to go down to a point that I noticed. It continued to work, just not as well. I have been using in the neighborhood of 3ml/day with my 510.

I have the 901 atty on the Protege so I don't know how that affects battery life. I am planning on ordering a few more batteries so I don't have to worry about being close to an AC outlet and will get a car charger adapter as well.

I use the 801 (heavy) and get a good 2 hours - sometimes 3 if I back off it a bit. Batts not dead but the vapor output just isn't what I like and I try to avoid over discharge like the plague.

Wow, 2 hrs... what did you get out of a 10440... 15 minutes?
I will admit I should probably change mine sooner... but not 2 hrs.

Sometimes that is a hard question to answer. What really matters is how long is it going to last for you. Also the more times you charge the batteries the less run time they will have. Most of these 14500 Li-Ion batteries last for about 300 charge cycles. I have some trust fire batteries that are over 4 months old and they only last about one hour. My newest Trustfire batteries last aver 4 hours, sometimes.

It also depends what voltage you're happy with. The Tenergy's that come with the Protege should cut off a 2.75v, but you'll hardly be getting vapor at that point. One thing I like about the Protege over the standard batts is I get a couple hours of 4v+ usage.

I use a 510 and like extra voltage. I just changed a batt because the vapor was dropping and at the adapter the multimeter read 3.7v. The fresh batt read 4.2v. Half a volt may not sound like much, but to an atty it's a lot.

I often check voltage when I put in a new batt, if it's not well over 4v then I know it's time to clean connections ;)

standard battery, meaning an ecig batt? Yes that is soo true any PV that uses a battery above 360mah will last longer and the 14500 is at 900mah with is very good.

4.2v doesn't really last that long...only right after fresh charge, but yeah it makes a diff

How do you check the voltage with a multimeter? i.e. where do you set the leads?
Also does do you or anyone else know which Trustfire 14500 batteries will work with the
Protege?
you would put one lead on the center post of the connector and the other on the outer.... its DC so it doesn't matter which just ignore the minus sign on your MM.... press the prote button to get your reading

Which trustfire 14500? do you mean protected or unprotected if so I think only unprotected 14500s work

OP outside the basic science of batteries higher mah means longer usage for that particular user

asking that is like asking for the taste of a juice very subjective and really cant be exact...

The Trustfire 14500 Protected batteries will work perfectly with the Protege as i would know cause i use them with mine :)

Infact i like them better then the non protected version as the protected ones are a little bit longer and make a nice strong connection with the adaptor as there more pressure with the spring tighter. No more messing with the pin on the switch housing to keep the contact with the adaptor. Never ever had to fool with it since using them.

3 reasons to use the protected batteries with the protege.

  1. protected batteries are safer and should not blow up but can if there bad.
  2. Makes a nice strong connection from the switch to the adaptor.
  3. No more willily battery inside as its tight.
I bought mine from here.. but ofcourse there now out of stock.

I need another set as i only have 2.

Wold i have to buy another charger? Or can i use the one the protoge comes with? (For the protected trust fire batteries that is)

you can use the one that comes with the protege.... it comes with a multisized charger I use them to charge my "AAA"sized li-ion Janty Stick batteries as well

I will admit I should probably change mine sooner... but not 2 hrs.

Well, the unit I have for the 10440 batts has a different draw for the 801 (easier and a lot more air flow) and I find I get about the same 2 hours.

I think with the Protege, I tend to really heat up the 801 in order to get the same feel/throat hit. It's not so much that the batt is out of gas but just that I don't get the same sensation.

The are times though, especially with a fresh atty and at home on the couch, where I'll easily get close to 4 hours. :thumb:

And then again, it could all me in my head

I really hope my batteries will last a lot more than 5 hours before the vape starts fall off....

Now that I have had my Protege over the weekend and had a chance to cycle each battery on the charger, I am getting more than 7 hours of vaping before I need to charge again. I have ordered some protected 14500s so that I don't have to carry the charger with me when I commute or go on a night out.

I like the heavier vape with a fresh battery so I do not wait until cut off is hit, when the vapor goes down too far with a fresh drip, I just swap the battery. I have not found the cut off point yet.

Thats how I do it as well. If I use my Protege the entire day, I go through 3 rotations. I'm awake about 17-18 hours a day, and the last battery of the day is never fully used. I get about 5-7 hours depending on how new the battery is ... When the throat hit starts to diminish and draws end up a bit longer than I like, I switch ... normally around the 5-6 hour mark.
