I placed an order for a protege already (and cannot wait for it to arrive) however while I have been watching for any new info about the protege waiting for my package I began to think about getting a prodigy too.

I'm curious though is it worth having both? Whats the differences between running at 3.7v and 5v/6v?

I plan to mainly use the protege at work/school or whenever I am out and about the general public, but I thought having a prodigy would be nice for the times I'm home playing World of Warcraft drinking a few cold beers. (since when I drink I seem try to get that intense throat hit)

Also if either Casey or Steve could answer this one it may help me decide too. If I placed the order for a prodigy kit tonight could it get tossed into my protege order?

I have the Prodigy and my Protege will be here tomorrow. I want both because when I first got my Prodigy it hit like a champ, I mean night and day from a regular 3.7v device and I loved it. Now it doesn't hit like it used too. The problem is not with the Prodigy, it's with my body adapting to it. So, my plan is to use the Protege as my mane vape and reserve the Prodigy for when I want an extra kick. I don't know if that helps, but good luck with whatever you end up doing.

Is it worth having both? Good question. I have a Prodigy and have just this afternoon placed my order for the Protege. I love my Prodigy in every way. I don't need a Protege, but I want one.

I think it's worth it because I'm a Puresmoker fan and I know I can trust Steve and Casey.

If you're going to be collecting PVs, get a Prodigy. If you just need to vape, stick with your Protege for a a month or two and see how you like it.

You could always get the Pass thru for a little more kick. It runs a bit higher voltage but I have both the Prodigy and the Pass thru and I tend to pick up the Prodigy more often. I am kinda spoiled now that I am used to the 5v hit. There is a good reason to use the 3.7v devices. Flavors are not changed at 3.7. When you start running the atomizer at the higher voltages the juice kinda tastes different. A little more harsh kinda...

I would say get both if you can afford it. You will get your money's worth that's for sure. Personally I am on the fence with the Protege for now. I just don't think it will satisfy after using the higher voltages. I like what one of the other posters said about using the 3.7 to readjust myself and save the Prodigy for that special time I want more. Good idea.

With all that said,,, Protege runs at 3.7v, Pass thru runs at 5.1v, Prodigy runs at 6.5v (These are my readings anyway and are not under load) More voltage equals more vapor and throat hit. Take your pick. Puresmoker equals quality.....

couldnt have said it better than this guy!

i have a passthru for computer use, prodigy for the morning hits i need to wake up and evening good nights in the bed... and im enjoying my protege for everyday use at work, running errands, etc.... i am used to 5v so much i got used to it and it doesnt seem as good.

i experienced the protege all day today and yesterday. and hit the prodigy tonight and wow what a hit. I enjoy having all 3 line ups and it works for me. whatever works for you. Puresmoker is quality and the protege is portable and lasts all day no problem with one battery. its perfect for what i want.

Your like me in the beginning, you dont know whats you yet... i started with a dse801 penstyle... got the prodigy and it changed my world... I then tried the 510 with the prodigy and thats all I use now is 510's... i might try 901 later on, but i like 510's now. I learned and developed as a vape user... and you too will develop, just try things out and you will understand what best suits your needs...

I hope this advice helps.

I have a Prodigy and a passthru... LOVE both. I was hesitant to go back to 3.7 volts, however, it will be nice for taking out to dinner and in public. Don't get me wrong... I take my Prodigy everywhere and I really don't give a crap what people think. What I really like is how the Protege looks... very cool and sleek!

I went ahead and ordered one this weekend! :)

I also have a passthru and it totally rocks. PS is top notch!! Love the Riskee as well :)

what is the actual difference between the protege with a 510 atomizer and an actual 510? I am using my 510 right now, and I like the hit although the atomizer is new so the vapor production is not at its "peak."I have the money to get both, but I am afraid that if I become spoiled to the prodigy I may never use the protege in turn creating a waste of $100, or dislike the high voltage hit to waste $140

Also does the prodigy kill atomizers more often than normal? I originally bought a USB passthrough for my Dragon 401, but returned it because I found I was killing atomizers in a day (also my friend had the exact same problem with his)

In your bushes, watching you undress
I own both (plus others) and have fallen into the collecting mindset myself.

But I wanted the Protege because I needed a smaller, more portable PV than the SB or Prodigy. I love higher voltage vaping, but at the right times, 3.7 is great. I begin my mornings and end my late nights with 3.7 now to ease my throat.

The Protege DOES perform better than a standard 510, it's not just about the longer batt life. You do get more vapor, more throat hit and more flavor. I believe it's not so much the voltage, but the Mah the batteries are running.

I think it is a great idea to own both, and you'll rarely find them fighting for vape time because you'll either be in the mood for 3.7 or for 5v.

I too carry my Prodigy or Silver Bullet out not caring what others think, but sometimes it is just too big and can be cumbersome (like while driving sometimes), and the Protege is just PERFECT.

I will need to see more reviews before shelling out more cash for a Protege.

I had two SD's, sold 'em both. Do I regret selling them?... not one bit!

I'm never in the mood for "less" vapor production. I want my vape to be just like smoking.

The only thing I may agree on, is that 3.7 volts produces slightly better flavor. Which I understand from that aspect. However, keeping my atty clean, retains just as good of flavor on 5 volts.

I clean my atty every 2-3 days. Then the wicking is like new again, and flavor returns crisp and delicious also.

When I vape, I need my lungs to be "full". I never got that on 3.7 volts, unless I took long 6 second pulls. That created Hot vapor, and was too hard on my atomizers. People think atomizers will last longer with 3.7 volts, I will disagree.
Been there... done it.

I also agree that the Protege with the 510 performs MUCH better than on a standard batty. The thing is powerful and amazing! Like seriously right now, I am using a 901 atty on with an adapter on a standard 510 batty because it's morning and I want a light, smooth vape. I'm not ready for the heavy duty 510 on the Protege yet.

It is very likely you have lost performance on your Prodigy.

Mine lost performance after a few weeks. If you haven't tried polishing connections do this:

Use metal cleaner/polish on all of the brass connections. Also use it on the aluminum threads and caps. I used Q-Tips to apply and clean.
I used metal polishing creme on mine... something like like Brasso will work also.
You will get TONs of black tarnish coming off.
When your done cleaning, the brass connections should have a "chrome-like" shine.

The other problem I've had is the spring-to-battery connection.

You are so right. Regular cleaning is the only way to get consistant performance from any PV. Dirt and grunge equal resistance, resistance equal lower voltage, current, and in the end, Vapor.

One big thing you guys are all missing is the Prodigy can also be run at 3.7 volts. You will need a switch without resistor though. That was the best thing I could have done for my Prodigy. I have the option of using the huge 18650 battery at 3.7v or two 3.0v batts for a 6v blast... I love it. I would really like the option to just switch the resistor on and off but I can just as easily change it out along with the batteries. That is the nice thing about the Prodigy... highly adaptable.. voltage and atomizer choice. Right now I have the option to use my Prodigy with the 801/ 901/ or 510 at 5v/ 3.7v/ or 6v. There are no other PVs out there that can boast that... .None...

Edit: sorry I just thought of one other but it isn't available yet. And it isn't made in the US... lol..

I have been taking the whole thing apart, cleaning and polishing all parts. You can certainly tell a difference after cleaning. It's just a simple fact that the mind and body are very adaptive. Trust Me, use nothing but 3.7 for 2 weeks, then hit a high voltage device and you'll know the difference.

I didn't miss anything. I already have some 18650's and have used them. The problem is having to switch to a non-resister mode to use them. I am waiting for PS to make more switches available now. I bought the Protege to replace my nicosticks. I love both 3.7 and 5.0 and like to switch easily between the voltages.

That's cool, I was just trying to let the OP know about his options. I hadn't seen anyone say anything about that option. And I know the switches are out of stock at the moment but surely they will be back soon. I just love being able to use the same PV (the Prodigy) for so many different variations. The OP was asking if he should get Protege/Prodigy: One or both? I can see your point about just picking up which ever one you are in the mood for.. I do the same thing with the Screwdriver... It usually stays loaded with a tobacco flavor and the higher voltage usually has an exotic juice in it. But if the OP wants to know all of his options then hey.. The Prodigy can also run 3.7 right?
