Hey Cash,

The solder is broken on my protege switch. It didn't look to be on there good when I first got it but it worked great and I didn't have any of the switch problems others were having so I was happy. Yesterday it started producing very weak vapor so I did a good cleaning, and it didn't help. So I checked the switch and discovered the problem.

I ordered a prodigy yesterday and tried for over an hour to add a few tact switches to my order and I got the yellow triangle. Today when I added them they went right in my cart with no problem. Can you send me one out or even send one with my prodigy so I don't have to pay shipping on just a switch? Also is there anything special as far as type of solder I need? I am afraid I am going to mess up the switch housing so I havn't tried to fix it yet........

There's a thread on here where someone shows the replacement of a switch and Steve did one on the Prodigy that's on youtube Switch Replacement Little larger assembly but basically the same.

You may be able to repair the one you have with a touch of a soldering iron.
Just wet a paper towel and squeeze most of the water out of it. Use it to cool the connection back down after your attempt at resoldering to prevent switch damage and finger burns :)

If you do the full replacement, take note that the Protege' brass contacts do not have a hole in them but a slot and you need to clean ALL the solder off/out of that area in order to get the contacts of the tact switch in the right place and the whole tact switch to seat properly when you install it.

I used a sharp utility knife to cut and "chip" the solder out of those slots and then a bit of thin sand paper to clean and rough up the surface a bit.
