Here's a reason to love the Protovapor: Packaging efficiency. It's got less than 60% the volume of another mod with almost identical specs, the hana modz V2:

I was always into basic black and never thought I'd buy shiny things, but came across this one in the classies a bit more than a week ago and couldn't resist. It's a dna-20 just like my Protovapor. It's all CNC'd aluminum and has an easily swappable battery (just remove the two screws holding the door). However, it feels HUGE in my hand. It also feels like it will scratch up easily. So I think it will live on my desk, rather than an EDC like the Protovapor. But it sure is pretty.

I'm in ..
Figured I'd give one of these a try, considered the ZNA but in 18650 it's likely to fall over ( I dislike things that fall over ) & the lack of usb charging killed it for me.
A Hana was in the running too, like the shorter height but .. it's wider, takes up a lot of room in the pocket I'd imagine, Rossums photo & description seems to confirm that.
This will be used at home & on the go.
Read thru most all of this thread - seems most are gushing about this device.
Oh & ... all black w / yellow silent button.
I'll likely need guidance 'from those in the know' about toppers at some point, I haven't progressed past cleaor's & hybrid attys yet.

Thanks for the picture. I have a Hana V3 on pre order in blue. It does look a little to wide to carry in my pocket at work comfortably. I do like the option of switching out batteries though. I have read that it does scratch easily and a j-wrap is pretty much a must have with it.

I think it would be hard to to go wrong with a Kayfun type. They work really well, and I think there are valid reasons why they seem to be more popular than either the Squape or Taifun types. IMO, the R91 is the perfect match for the Protovapor precisely because it's not shiny.

Word of advice, Proto just emailed me back saying 3-day Priority takes 3-5 business days. USPS...what a joke, lol. Why wouldn't you just call it 3-to-5-day Priority
You realize it's coming all the way from Hawaii, right? That means an absolute minimum of two plane rides. Oh, and people in Hawaii, well, they're rarely in a big hurry, and I imagine that includes the postal workers.

Yes, working Logistics in the trucking industry, I know how shipping and receiving goes. It's a shame I can't Qualcomm my package to triangulate its location!

I realize that's probably a rhetorical question, but if they called it 3-5 day Priority, nobody would pay when first class shipping (in my experience) usually only takes a few days in the lower 48.

My order number is in the upper 250's; hoping to see mine in a few weeks... :thumb:

Thanks for the suggestion, theres likely a reason why these are quite popular.
Are they trouble fee comparatively ? Easy to live with ?

I know you weren't asking me, but I have an R91... Watch a few setup videos, it's not that hard to get the hang of building a good coil/wick combo for them. And when you get it right, it's very good and really hassle-free.

I like using cotton in mine because if the wick gets gunked up, I just pull the cotton, dry fire, rinse, re-wick, and I'm good to go - no need to install a new coil.

I think so. They're really easy to make a good build for. They have adjustable airflow (at least the current generation does). The "Light" and "91%" variants are a reasonably compact size. They have decent capacity tanks. As far as I'm concerned, the only downside is that you have to disassemble and drain the tank to work on the build. I thought that might be a PITA, but it doesn't bother me. Cotton wicking lasts me a week of daily refills, and by that time, the juice remaining in the tank is starting to look pretty ugly and I wanna rinse out the tank anyway.

Thanks.
Watched a couple of vids - looks pretty simple to do. Nice design.
Looks to hold 3.5 - 4ml of liquid which is fine.

Question about wicks; most seem to use cotton, would a pre made wicking material be fine as well, something I could just buy a rool of & rewick with ? Longest lasting wick material ?
and .... anyone know where I can get one ? 'out of stock' is mostly the results I'm getting.

Figure I'd get one, get it built & try it on current device prior to the arrival of the XPV which may be a month or more ..

edit ; Bustardo mentioned that the R91 produced a 'cooler' vape ( for him ) I like a warmer, wetter experience .. thoughts ?

Thanks again fellas.

I'll be a voice of (slight) dissent here and say that for me the Taifun (clone, I've no experience with legit Taifuns OR Kayfuns/Russians) WAY easier to work with and build on.

Now, it does NOT have adjustable air flow, but that's not a problem for me. It's juuust right for my style of vaping, which is long, slow pulls.

I find cotton actually lasts me longer than silica, and when it gets gunked up, it's almost trivial to pull it out, dry-burn the coil, and put some new cotton in it. Cotton is also ubiquitously available and dirt cheap. Lastly, I like the way cotton vapes and tastes. The only downside is that may take a little while to get the hang of how much cotton is the right amount for your particular atty. If in doubt, use less. I've got a bag full of silica and Ekowool that I doubt I'll ever use again.

But yes, you can definitely build a Kayfun-type atty with standard silica or Ekowool; I just never have, because I was a cotton convert before I got one. :D
