So I wanted to share this with my friends here at PIF - mods, feel free to move it if it shouldn't be here. ;)

Yesterday was my 8 year old son's last short course swim meet of the year - and his last swim meet as an 8 year old..... so his last opportunity to participate in a 25 yard race (they only do 25 yard races for 8 and under) So his coach put him in a butterfly event (unarguably the hardest stroke in swimming.)
Jason was more nervous than he's ever been in his life, far more nervous than his 50 or 100 yard races in the other strokes.

He was so nervous that on the starting block he announced that he had to pee and tried to get down - thankfully the stroke and turn official was there to stop him and told him "son, you can hold it for the 30 seconds it'll take you to cross this pool" and he couldn't argue.

Well here's the results of his race:

YouTube - Jason - 25 Yd Fly

His time was 23.01 seconds - which is a state qualifying "B" time.... less than 1/2 a second from an "A" time. His first ever 'fly time!
He took 1st in his heat (by a long time!) and 3rd overall (out of 12)

Then his 50 yard backstroke - he swam so hard he bonked his head against the far end of the pool (rather than flipping a stroke before the end & pushing off) and still took first in his heat, and 4th overall - in the video you can see him slow down at the end, he didn't want to bonk his head again!

Now - I know I'm just a proud papa, but I think this is impressive because a year ago today this boy was deathly afraid to be in water without a life jacket.

okay.... that's all my bragging!
