AW batteries are arguably the best. There's no question about that. Andrew goes through and tests batteries from various manufacturers, puts his stamp on the ones he approves of, and sells off the ones that don't pass his tests to other companies. That is why they are the best.

But there are SOOOOOOOOOOOO many fake AWs floating around now, it's hard to tell for sure unless you order them from ProVape, or do your research and only buy from authorized AW dealers. How many people have what they think are authentic AW batteries but are actually fake? I'm willing to bet more than a few people who read this have fakes and don't even realize it.

Now I know what everyone is going to say in reply to this thread.

"Buy your batteries from ProVape and you won't have that problem."

It still just seems like a lot of people have been, and will be, burned by fake AW IMRs. Not everyone even knows that AW batteries are copied at all, let alone as much as they have been lately.

Huh, that's weird. It didn't post my whole post when I submitted...

Anyway, I had also said that perhaps now its a good time for ProVape to loosen their stance on AW batteries since there are so many copies floating around anymore. Not only that, but there are other brands of batteries that are just as good, if not better in some regards. Might help alleviate the AW fake problem, at least a little.

Better depends on the application. And somewhere once, ProVape technically explained that their chip is actually designed optimized for the way the AW IMR drains. There's more than just Mah to battery specs...
So I understand your concept - and maybe they could look for "alternate battery recommendations" - but basically, what they are saying is that you'll get the best performance pairing your 'Vari with an AW battery...

I get them from RTD, or from NiteMods.com (he's on ECF as "Wonderlite" - you can order by PM too), with no concern about fakes.

I happen to like the fact that ProVape uses a battery that is vetted.

Looking out for fakes is just a fact of life for vapers.

Buy your batteries no matter what brand, for whatever mod, from a company you trust to do their homework.

ProVape stipulates AW batteries. Ergo, buy AW batteries for use in Provaris.

Use whatever batteries you feel comfortable with in your other mods.

This battery stance by Provape is not based entirely on chemistry. There are other batteries that "may" be safe to use in a Provari, but not all batteries are made the same. I found this out the hard way. The issue that caught me by surprise was "button top height". Yes, to the eye they may look fine, but some manufacturers buttons are not as tall as AW specs are. In the following pic you will see an EH IMR battery that would not make contact in my Provari's ( the one with the shrink removed from the top portion ):

That few 100'ths or 1000'ths of an inch made the difference between not being able to make contact, and working just fine. The AW's buttons upon closer examination protrude well above the shoulder of the cell. Two out of three of my EH cells would not work in the Provai, every AW cell will work and make proper contact in a Provari. By removing the donut shaped portion of the shrink wrap, enough clearance was accomplished to make proper contact with the positive terminal, I was lucky in this regard.
