so my provari arrived today, i actually stayed home from work in the morning to stalk the mailman... i'm so stoked. and first i gotta say, wow this thing is SMALLL... i totally expected it to be larger, both in width and in length, and i got the regular sized one with the extension cap. i'm blown away by the build quality on it too.

i started using it with the DCT V2 tank that i've been using with my chinatube and ego-c which have been working with it fine with no issues, other than the fact that those devices are just lacking. i threw it on and the first few puffs were great, lots of vapor and decent taste, but i could just sense a very minor burnt taste. i decided to put some fluid into the carto itself, even though the tank was full, and after a few more puffs i got a really gross burnt taste, and this was at 3.4 volts all the way up to 4.7 volts, changing it didn't matter at all it was still burnt.

i'm wondering, are the stock carto's that it comes with and that i bought not flowing enough juice into the carto from the tank? they just have the single hole in the side that was pre-drilled and is pretty small, though the juice i'm using is either 100% pg or 70/30, depending on the flavour. the one in it at the time was 100% pg, so it should flow well. i'm wondering if it's just the carto and if i should change the carto and it will work, or should i enlarge the hole before trying again? i want to find out first, because if i try a new carto and get the same taste, i'm assuming the taste will kind of be stuck in it even if i enlarge the hole (but wouldn't get worse)... i'm wanting to know if this is a problem people have had with the provari because of the higher, constant current it puts out, or if its a problem with these carto's having smaller pre-punched holes

thanks! and i'm SO happy to have joined the 'holy grail club'

First, Congrats on your new Provari and welcome to the club!

As far as what is happening with your carto, it's not a perfect science so determining exactly what is going on is hard to determine. It's my understanding that once your carto has that burnt taste, it is impossible to get rid of no matter what you do, so consider it done. It sounds like you're not getting enough juice to the carto, meaning that the single hole may not be enough. Myself, all of my juices I mix at 50% PG and 50% VG so they are a bit thicker. I use a Dremel tool and cut two decent slots in each of my Boge 3.0 ohm cartos and they always seem to hit and stay moistened perfectly.

Something you may want to do if you think your carto may be getting dry is to take a few primer puffs; quick short harder puffs without pressing the vape button. If you look quick enough you should see air bubbles coming out of the hole in your carto which indicates that fluid is getting into your carto. Some cartos have a thicker (more tightly packed) filler than others, I know that my Boges are tight like that, and some brands have a 'looser' filling. Then the 'thickness' of your juice matters as well. So it's just a matter of either adding more holes or slots until you reach that sweet spot to give you the perfect vape. Sort of a 'trial and error' thing.

Good luck with your new baby!

Cool, thanks. Feel free, I did. It's Friedrich Nietzsche. Don't think he'll protest.

Yea, I was thinking that it is not wicking all the way, especially with DCC if they mare not both wet wicked one coil may burn and the other produce vapor hence the burned taste.. I sometimes drop liquid in the bottom then the top and blow lightly to wick it through. That way I know the coils are saturated.. I get my Provari in the mail at noon today!

ughh, an update...

i'm actually getting really ...... off using this thing... i'm having E1 and E2 errors wayy wayyy too often, and at anything above 4.2 or 4.3 volts if the carto is below 1.8 ohms or so... no way it should be hitting a current limit at that point.

On top of that, I ran out of boge carto's, and i'm finding that every other carto that worked sort of alright on my ego or even my lavatube doesn't seem to work as well on the vari... it just works good for a few vapes, but then just starts tasting burnt and crappy. if i add a few drops, it seems to flood right away then goes right back to burnt. hurmph.. .i'm really getting mad here... i got the dct tank to work a little bit for the past day or two, but then i went to use it again today and it just was flooded and ....ty all day long! wtf???
